This is not only complete independence, but total interdependence and interaction of hand/feet muscle groups and joints; to smoothly, accurately and with great timing and precision execute this complicated Latin groove. I am an educated drummer and have been playing for 40 years and I am still impressed with this performance!

Huge Respect for Horacio..This style of Drumming requires great knowledge of latin percussions and Afro Cuban Music... He has knowledge of the Conga,Bongo,Guiro,and obviosuly the clave and other Afro Cuban Instruments because of which he is able to adapt those sounds to the Drum set which requires amazing independence,practice,discipline..!!

@StickyyWinklee that's because drumming isn't ONLY about making beats, beyond just music it's a fun instrument to play and an incredibly challenging instrument on top of that. Not all drummers should always just make music, that's boring if it's all you do. It is fun to challenge yourself as well as watch a musician that can do what El Negro can do. I do think making a beat is an essential part of drumming but I can't say that is what really attracts me to it. It's just a fun challenge.

From what I hear, if you count his clave as 4/4 (for the sake of reference) then you have a 6/4 polymeter over it (+ some polyrhythms they do) from 1:55 to 3:40... 2 cents.

So, i've had a hard time following the clave pattern over the solo exchange, but I think i've figured out why it sounds so confusing: the clave is playing 2/3 in 4/4 time, while they are soloing in 3/4 time. Please, correct me if i'm wrong!
@steamsteam66077 жыл бұрын
It matters for us drummers.
@ValentinoVitaliMusic6 жыл бұрын
You may think it as 3/4, but it becomes a little more confusing, I find it more "simple" to think they are soloing over a 3-bars patterns that's repeating, each time flipping against the clave. Hope this was helpful, 3 years later :D
