6:24 this happened to me twice in my marching band years. Sadly I was a flute player so I had to tuck my flute under my uniform because woodwinds CANNOT get wet. Luckily, most of everyone’s sheet music was dry thanks to the waterproof covering on it

We were outside for a veteran’s day parade march and it was so the younger kids wouldn’t mess up because in the words of our director, “I’d rather you play the music right than look good while doing it.” Of course, if a few kids are using their lyres then the whole band has to match (as uniformity was always a big factor).

Getting up early for summer band camp the Friday night football games in the fall the Pizza afterwards, the out of town band trips in the spring and everything in between. Lots of blood, sweat and tears but it was so much fun and worth it in the end, my 4 years in high school marching band were the best years of my life miss those days big time. I went to a competition, we were the ONLY band that day who got rained on. And when I say it rained, it POURED. Of course, the sky cleared immediately after our performance. One of the most interesting competitions I've ever been to.

Bro your story about the thunderstorm reminds me about something that happened to my marching band my sophomore year. We call this story the tragedy of 8/17 because it was on August 17th of that year. We were supposed to have our first dress rehearsal that day, which means we were gonna practice in our full uniforms and it was our first time wearing them. But while we were getting ready to go outside to practice it just out of nowhere started to pour down rain. Almost all of our electronics for the front ensemble were outside when this happened and it all got ruined along with a lot of people getting their uniform soaked. We were supposed to play at a football game the week after that in lucas oil stadium but we weren't able to because all our electronics got ruined.

Which band were you in? I am a clarinet and I just finished my 1st year of marching season competitions. It was really fun but my band had some hard competition considering that one of the bands we went up against made it to the national contest. Also, that trumpet playing was absolutely beautiful, no wonder the ladies were attracted to you. I relate to the rain story and I was so scared for my clarinet since rain absolutely ruins clarinets and I had a performance ON MY BIRTHDAY, IT RAINED AND I LITERALLY HAD TO SPEND AN HOUR IN A TUNNEL DURING THE PERFORMANCE(also it was a football game).

I had this exact same issue as a trumpet, except for it was our band camp week, and it was stuck for the WHOLE week as a freshman in high school. Literally, everyone tried to get it out. After 2 weeks, I finally had time to take it in and get it fixed at a store as the remover didn't work. At our end-of -the-year banquet, I got an award for stuck mouthpiece.

my high school marching band has a few rain stories, I can think of 3 notable ones. Our region championship this past season we were the only band that got rained on HARD. The moment we stepped on the field it went from a light drizzle to the sky opening up and just pouring on us with thunder and lightning. Still won though 😊. 2019, same competition, we went out with no woodwinds which screwed us over for the rest of the season. 2017, it was a horrible storm that I wasn't there for but the video tells it all. Sideways rain, wind blowing like crazy, again though, my high school marching band gets along well with rain because championships were won that year

Two times this year did my band get rained out at major events. First was our home show which was also regional championships. We were not able to perform our best as there was a tent covering our rhythm section. The second time was during the Philadelphia holiday parade where there was a downpour the whole time. It was also televised, so that was pretty awkward.
