Good job, mate. If you make yourself a separate entrance and replace the hatches and the open space above them with two blocks you can see, shoot and stab through (I use a scaffold ladder on the inside and a .25 double pole on the outside), your dog problem will be solved, zombies will not be able to squeeze through, you will be protected from 95% of the cop spit, and you will be able to repair all four blocks at any time.

Drop a bunch of spike traps just above where you stand. That will take out the birds.
