@@deadhorse1391 yea, I get why they used conversions instead of percussion guns in filming. Also Spencer carbines and Henry’s were just starting to get in the hands of cavalry troops in the eastern theater of the of the war, much less the far flung edge of the frontier.

Orange? Looks yellow. Golden yellow to be specific. Yellow is the colour of the cavalry isn't it?
@josephknaak90345 ай бұрын
Look at the piping at the collar and on the jacket. It is clearly orange. Prior to 1859-60 we had 5 regiments of mounted troops. 1st and 2nd Dragoons, a regiment of Mounted Rifles, and 1st and 2nd Cavalry. All reorganized into Cavalry regiments before the war. Orange for Dragoons, green for Mounted Rifles, and yellow for Cavalry

The word indigenous comes from the Latin word indigena, which means "native" or "sprung from the land". Indigena is a combination of the Old Latin words indu, meaning "in" or "within", and gignere, meaning "to beget". The word was first used in English in the mid-1600s, but the earliest documented use of indigenous was in 1632 by M. Stanhope
@praack45636 ай бұрын
correct- but this word was not in common parlance in the United States unless you were Classically trained or had an expensive education. the Sergeant being Irish would have had a 4-6 grade education at best, whereas the officer would be more educated but do not expect college degrees. the common term of Indian was in use as well as more derogatory terms as there was a real war between the nations.

For a an old soldier in the old army of Britain, I can see the word “aboriginal” being used. Indigenous is less likely, but since Lieutenant Gephardt is the only one who says it, I chalk it up to it as a character trait of his being sympathetic to the Apaches. So while perhaps not used widely, individually, I can see it.
