About the handhelds - Based on your estimations of what the Steam Deck is going to be capable of with this game, I'd guess that they were referring to more powerful handhelds like the Asus ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion GO and other such devices rather than the Deck. The GO and the upper variant of the Ally use the AMD Z1 Extreme SOC with an 8-core 16-thread CPU and surprisingly capable iGPU. At max power and with some tweaking in the graphics driver settings, my Ally can run games like Destiny 2 and Forza Horizon 5 at 60+ FPS at 900p with above-minimum graphics settings. With proper tweaking, those and similar devices will probably have a much easier time running HFW than the Deck. There's also the shared memory to consider. I don't know if this is the same across all the devices, but the Ally's 16GB of DDR5 RAM is already shared between the CPU and GPU. A game optimized to properly utilize DirectStorage might be able to take even more advantage of that setup than it theoretically can on a conventional desktop or laptop system. I'm definitely going to see how my Ally handles HFW because I'm super curious about what kind of performance it can put up. Here's hoping the HFW port is relatively stable at launch.

Having played on PS5 @ 4K in DLSS Performance Mode, it delivered an absolutely solid 60fps. And I found that 60fps was all you need. This isn't a PvP FPS shooter where you need every possible ms because you are competing against another player hopped-up on caffeine. 60fps is solid, there is no reason to angst over thinking you need higher than 60fps.

nice breakdown! I was also supprised by these kinda high requirements on 1440/4k But we will see, we can always drop the reflections, shadows, volumetric lighting and ambient occlusion a bit to push us over our minimum frame rate we are happy with :)

I finished this game on my PS5, I highly recommend it very entertaining game. It will consume a lot of your time, its Skyrim big, lots of exploring. (Bare with the boring starting mission that's not part of the open world after)

Thank you very much for the information, this helps me understand what to expect and confirms the capabilities of my laptop after testing. I really wish Nixxes could solve the problems with The Last of Us port like they did with horizon zero dawn, if they could touch and add direct storage it would help a lot with high % on CPU, but even as it is, it's almost reaching 60fps stable. Both games have the same medium hardware settings, but Horizon Forbidden West will have a much smoother performance I'm sure. let me explain: In The Last of Us, the frame rate fluctuates between 90 fps in confined spaces and 55 fps in others, averaging around 58 but occasionally reaching 60. If The Last of Us performs like this, I predict Horizon will stand out even more, especially with or without direct storage integration. Direct storage will alleviate pressure on the CPU, resulting in smoother gameplay for systems with 4-core CPUs. The PS4 Slim runs 1080p at 30 fps from an HDD and with an old 8-core CPU, and when I upgraded to an SSD, it taxed the CPU because it loaded textures too quickly, impacting the frame rate in certain situations with alot of NPC and stuff. Therefore, it is preferable to have a well-functioning HDD to avoid such problems for the ps4 slim.

I just wanted to say that the i5 8500 is a six core six thread CPU however the Ryzen 5 3600 is a six core 12 thread CPU. So I do feel that the AMD would be a better choice at 1080p

Ah yeah, my mistake. I’d guess the 1300X was the only single threaded AMD CPU on there. You make a good point. The AMD CPUs may have an advantage, especially considering the PS5 hardware is AMD.

@@ArktixOfficial I'm an avid fan of AMD. I'm also a huge fan of the Horizon games and how good their stories are. I played thru Zero Dawn multiple times on both PS4 and PC. Forbidden West is probably my favorite game ever. Can't wait to play it on PC. I have an ultra-wide Alienware 1440p OLED monitor and an all AMD PC (Ryzen 7 5800x3d and RX7900xtx) Can't wait to see how gorgeous it looks!

I've been getting 2560x1600 native @60fps on Ultra w/ very little if any slowdown for Zero Dawn, on a laptop 4070 I imagine if you have pretty much any 40-series GPU you're set for 1080p Very High Also Decima is fucking magic when it comes to efficiency

I'm pretty sure if you look at the min req chart, the graphics presets scale with vram so I'm pretty sure it'll run 1080p high for sure but I don't think it'll hit 1080p very high

@@hayabusa09I played HZD at launch and had zero problems. It ran fantastic for me. But it seemed like what happened at launch was that some people had problems and others did not, and it seemed really random because no particular piece of hardware seemed to cause a problem, just maybe some weird amalgam of various hardware items that would cause problems and others that wouldn't, and I just got lucky. I do think Nixxes' later updates did solve some of the (for me) minor pop-in issues that I originally had (but which were no worse by any means than what the PS4 had natively).

If dlss isn’t included in this, then I’m buying it today. If Jedi survivor runs with it at 4k ray tracing at around 45 fps, and hzd runs at 4k 59 fps with no dlss then I think I can probably do fine. I have a 3070ti in a laptop, but with the Liquid Metal mod that I just did keeps the temps incredibly stable. It only has a max wattage of 100, but you think I could hit a consistent 30 at max settings?

I think its fairly obvious why the recommended cards jumped to being RTX cards instead of GTX cards, the RTX set are the first ones that support DLSS even if the 20 series was the most weak of the bunch. As far as the high settings goes.. as long as you aren't expecting 4k, a rtx3060ti can be overclocked to at or better than stock rtx3070 speeds as long as you have good airflow in your case. And on those toggles.. I normally turn JJAbrams mode(lens flares, motion blur, vignette, film-grain) off in games I play anyway.

Good point. Yeah I guess I’m just surprised they didn’t go with 20 series equivalents for the recommended cards, but maybe they wanted to recommend a 60 class card instead of a 70 class, for example. Or maybe they just wanted to ensure you had access better DLLS.

@@ArktixOfficialI recall that the 20 series was only slightly better (or worse in some cases) than the gtx1080 and their main selling point was raytracing... and it wasn't very good at that. only the 2080super pushed it into being an actual upgrade and one of those cards are still expensive, the cost effective option would be a 3060, with the Ti variant having a rather silly amount of overclock headroom pushing it up to 3070 range if you don't mind doing some trial and error to find the stable point for overlocking. (edit, said dlss instead of raytracing)

It will prolly. There is like a 15% performance gap between the 6950xt and the 7900xt so ur good unless they really gonna max out the 7900xt in the graph.

You chose your resolution poorly, you would be visually better off at higher IQ settings and 1440P including ultrawide, simply much easier to drive.

Good question. You’re closer to 4K than 1440p in terms of the number of pixels your GPU needs to push, so I would be looking at close to 4K specs for 60FPS on your monitor.

3050 laptop version might be able to do 1080p 60fps with graphics settings turned down to low/very low.

Pixel density is a thing and naturally having them closer together on a much smaller screen means they don't need to add as much to make it look sharp. It's why 480p still looks pretty good on a phone but awful on larger screens. So I'm sure they can run lower resolution textures on handheld and look just as good as the minimum would on pc.

True, but the minimum specs on the chart were already using the lowest graphics settings. The more I think about it, the more I think it will have to drop to something like 540p on a handheld, which might be ok on a small screen.

I think you must have meant i5 8600k? Or maybe i7 8700k? Either way, your 3060 is the recommended spec for 1080p 60FPS with medium settings. You might be able to do 1440p 60FPS if you use DLSS and turn some settings down, but your hardware is better optimized for 1080p.

re: 8:00 Definitely worth noting that userbenchmark is extremely bad at rating intel cpus vs amd cpus and has an absurdly high intel bias. It's reasonably good at comparing intel to other intels but I'd use something else for amd.

I think a 4070 laptop version should be able to do 1080p 60FPS native with settings pretty high. With DLSS, I think you'll definitely be able to turn settings up, maybe even without DLSS.

Laptop version of the 1080 might struggle a bit to do that, but if you can overclock it a bit an optimize a few settings I think you could probably do it.

Normally I'd be the first one advocating that not everyone has the latest hardware or the bestiest video cards especially given how expensive they are. but SSDs have been the norm for a long time now. The only reason they are treated as "omg new technology!" on the ps5 is because the PS4 came out before SSDs started to become more widespread so they were stuck with that old platter drive for as long as they were. It was so amusing to me watching PS5 pretend that SSDs were this amazing new technology to help sell their product, meanwhile I've had an SSD in my PC for over 10 years now

Not sure what you mean by 10%+ performance? with a 1080ti and the older gen CPU you have, I think you should be able to run 1080p 60FPS with medium-ish settings.

My recollection is that you are immune to damage during the animation, so triggering the valor surge to avoid incoming damage is a thing you can do.

Make sure you replace the thermal paste took me hours and watching. I applied it myself, even with a faulty fan(missing some blades) now in zero dawn I'm achieving a consistent 120 fps at medium settings ,the max I ever did was 70 fps so this felt new, which is better performance than when it was new. It seems neither the repair store nor the manufacturer knows how to do a proper job I mean, based on my experience, i even made sure to apply thermal paste better than the videos I saw and the feedback really helped to understand how to do better

I'm not sure we're on the same page. Are you saying you'll play at 1440p on a 4K monitor? Either way, with a 4060, you'll definitely be able to play at a solid 1080p. I think you could also play at a solid 1440p with some settings turned down a bit or by using DLSS upscaling.

Never. They intentionally dropped support for ps4 so they could leverage the potential of ps5. Having to support older console which is now 11 years old would have held them back heavily.
