I love how Guerrilla has condensed the actual world. It doesn't have the full city of Vegas, San Fran, etc., but having a cluster of landmarks makes it feel like the city, and when looking at the map, it's pretty obvious that the two cities are nowhere close to each other, yet the world transitions in a way that makes it seem believable. While playing it finally clicked for me in this open world that yeah, while it may SEEM like it's only been 1 day since you went from Point A to Point B, that is also an exaggerated time frame so we aren't made sick by the day/night cycle. The way your companions talk to you, it's clear that Aloy is gone for days/weeks at a time, which makes way more sense. So that 10 minute trek for you to go from Vegas to the west coast is more like several days in the actual game's story. Just a cool little detail that makes the condensing of the world even better thought out!

Truly a pleasure just to explore this World they have made for this story.., Of coarse this is coming from someone who has been enjoying the growth of Computer generated graphics from the beginning.. I was a fan of Killzone's early days., Guerilla games I had a feeling you could do better or that maybe I felt that first person shooters wasn't their strong suit or preference.., I wonder in Horizon, ( both games ), aimlessly and just say WOW as I stop to look around and smell the roses.., I honestly didn't think I was ever going to see., or even thought it was going to be possible to accomplish this level immersive detail with in a persons lifespan. It's not that this game is bad, it's just that a better game that did something new with the open world concept came in to overshadow it and HFW provided the perfect juxtaposition for people to compare Elden Ring to it. It is unfortunate because the effort and time put into this game is just astounding however anyone will admit that in terms of open world traversal and quest tracking they chose to go with the old and reliable system that people are pretty much sick of. I fully believe that it wouldn't have been such an issue if HFW had come out on its own a been given at least a month or two on its own to shine, but it didn't get that opportunity, usually when reviewing a game like this people praise all the pros like the amazing visuals, the great gameplay, awesome combat and interesting story with a con being that it doesn't do anything interesting in terms of its open world system. It would be a footnote and the game would receive a 9/10. But then comes another game in which about every single thing you can complain about in HFW is improved on; the open world traversal is better, your character doesn't keep hinting at what you need to do every few seconds, there's barely any HUD, they don't baby you with quest markers all over the map, it treats you like an adult. This video proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that HFW is an amazing game, but it's choices to go old school in a time when others were willing to make a risky endeavour is its folly. From Soft made a gamble that paid off and the unfortunate casualty was the Horizon Forbidden West's player base.

@@TheRoudyzor The time of writing that comment I was playing HFW and hadn't picked up Elden Ring, now I am about 20 hours in Elden Ring I would have to disagree with you. I like everything about HFW but I like everything about Elden Ring better, unfortunately. I don't want to make comparisons between two great games but I enjoy Elden Rings intuitive traversal and open world system better than HFW. I can foresee me playing Elden Ring for the rest of the year and more even after I eventually finish the story but just like HZD I don't think I'll go back to HFW once I finish all there is to do after the story ends.

@@navtektv you’re not entirely wrong, but horizon doesn’t baby you. You can also turn off all hud settings if you’d like too. As well as setting waypoints to explorer mode, where it shows the direction on the compass but nothing else. Also Aloy just reiterates your primary objective. Whereas elden ring you’re forced to have to pay attention to every detail, watch a video, read the wiki, or you’re left wondering what to do next(in terms of quest progression). I’ve played both games as well with 50+ hrs on both but I think it’s just that people feel refreshed to not have the same/similar open world system as other games. Both are good games tho.

It's amazing and outstanding how they reproduced a preview of what the world would become after 1000 years. I'm amazed and I wonder how many of these structures can still hold up together. I know it's a game and it's a "simulation" of nature taking over the planet, but it's still very reflexive.

These Horizon games are just so fascinating, it’s primal yet set in the future. These people in the future should have the most advanced technology in the world, yet they live like people did thousands of years ago, completely forgotten and unaware of how people used to go by their everyday lives and the only connection to the past is just the ruined world of those that existed before and the machines of doom they left behind. It’s so eerie in a sense, and yet it very well could be a reality, the damage that we are currently doing to our lovely planet is sad, and the constant threat of a nuclear war, well it’s not a even close reality at this point, but it doesn’t erase the fact that threat still remains

The level of detail is incomparable with any other games of this generation. It's so hard to play other games after finishing Forbidden West. The depth of the story, details, movement mechanics is just too good. I got so absorbed into the narrative. I listen and read every data points i find. I'm just a little disappointed by the weapon upgrade requirements. You have to veer off from the story, fast traveling and reloading until an apex machine spawns to get the upgrade parts(rinse and repeat until you have the x amount you need). It's too time consuming and makes the experience dull. reminds me of ubisoft games repetitive missions

As far as cities go: They did a good job of capturing the scale of SF. A so-so job of capturing the scale of the Vegas Strip. (I know it’s buried in sand but the size of the forums and the Paris hotel seems diminished.) Both were way better than how they showed Denver and SLC in the first game.

This is an absolute hell of a comparison video. Growing up in the Midwest I honestly had no idea about 80% of these were anything worth acknowledging. The team at Guerilla Games honestly deserve Game of the Year. This is the most detailed game created since The Last of Us Part II. Sidenote: I'd love to see a quick Part 2 to this video as I know for a fact 2 locations and probably more were missed. For example I know Big Sur is in the game... Also the large satellites that make up Plainsong also exist in real life.

First of all, excellent video! I did have one point of contention and that was with the sequoia national park inclusion at the end. We do know that that location in game has to be roughly in the same area of California as sequoia national park due to the Sequoia trees only living at specific altitude ranges. However, unless there is some landmark we can tie to the park in game, we cant say it is for sure the park just because of the trees… there is a wide range in the game where sequoia trees are found, and since all of the trees in the park wouldve died to the Faro plague, all of these new sequia trees have to have been planted by gaia. therefore we cant pinpoint exactly where in game the park is supposed to be without some landmark or building.

There's a strange feeling while wandering in the Horizon world. The world is clearly condensed compared to reality, but all the setting, camera distortion, time lapse have hidden it so well that players still consider the map tremendously huge.
