It's not too badly damaged, the guy should be able to stick the bits back together with it looking like styrofoam. In the 60's and 70's when those model aircraft came down you knew about it with bits shattering everywhere but still, the modellers would simply repair the damaged parts for newly crafted parts. That said in those days the modellers built the planes from scratch following a detailed plan for every part, the wing structure would be like a skeleton until it had it's wing membrane ironed onto the frame joists. I remember listening to my uncle when he tried to sell some of his old model planes near on 50 years later and being told that the pilots of today want an instant plane ready to fly, they're not interested in learning the aerodynamics involved in creating a plane from scratch so his planes didn't sell. So on that basis....Yes the guys damaged plane in the video will probably never fly again.

@@Warpig0321 I think what this dude is saying is that it's also about fixing (and learning to modify) the planes once you break them, it was a pretty long winded point but it's still valid. He wasn't saying Styrofoam planes are junk, it's just that you don't necessarily have to put it back the same as it was for it to fly, have some fun w it The old way is and was fairly expensive and hard, so you have to modify the plane within your skill and budget (you can make custom Styrofoam parts, all you need is a sharp knife or razor blade. It will save you money and a trip to the hobby shop)

Criss crossing where the pilots are standing is very sketchy. Flying over a corn field is sketchy too. You go down could take hours to find it if you’re lucky. Unless you have a locator attached.

Flying a high speed model, in an area with brush and static objects above ground level, in a highly congested airspace? This was a bad idea. High speed passes over spectators heads and within close proximity of static objects?? That's a recipe for disaster. Don't fly in conditions like this. Fortunately no one was hurt, but it WILL eventually happen if you keep flying like this. Too many things to go wrong very quickly. I've seen people get hurt in better conditions. Keep it safe. 🤙

First comment ive seen about flying over heads, huge no no. This is what happens when people go to the hobby store and buy shit without any knowledge or research. Seen planes take out rvs, fingers hands, god forbid if one ever hit a person.

Came in a bit hot my friend. Everything was lining up perfect should have cut power flared a bit more. Hey it's happen to the best of us including myself. You were dealing with a bit of wind and the corn stalks on each side as well. I try to stay in big fields if possible to allow for adjustments. It's an expensive hobby but we'll worth it. I will be glad when they start making some nice vtol style aircraft or some equipped with GPS and automatic landing. We definitely have the technology to do it just nothing like that on the market yet. How cool would that be to push a return to home like on a drone and it lands itself.

in 1987 while training in 29 palms my squadron had the rather dubious honor of being the first Marine Corps squadron to successfully deploy the ejection seat... My XO was piloting his Hornet with full ordinance onboard... loaded with 500 plb bombs he lit the afterburners to get off the ground.. The center-line fuel tank did not have the fuel cap properly secured and a Lucky grunt at the end of the runway got a picture as a giant fireball exploded beneath the plane... sure wish I still had a copy of that picture it was a rare one... Our XO got a fire warning indicator.. He could not punch out because he was still over the runway, full fuel bladders to his left, live bombs on the tarmack to his right, with a cool had on the stick he road the plan down until he was at about 100 feet and past the end of the runway. Once in the clear.. in his own words.. " I got clear so I jettisoned the fuel tank, it was still going down so I jettisoned the ordinance, it was still going down so I jettisoned the airplane... Your escapades brought this memory back... thank you its a good memory.. You might be gratified to know there was alot more of your aircraft left then our XO's

I was sure one of the drones would fly the F18 out of the sky. Next time go stand about the spot were you crashed the plane, and come in a lot slower. Landing in front and pass you on such a smal road is dangerous and not easy. I hope you manage to repair the F18 and you still enjoy to fly such a beautyfull RC plane. What accupack is used in the plane? You got a fairly long flying time
