One story error: Hades doesn't have anything to do with the derangement, the derangement is a direct consequence of the gaia prime signal rendering Hephaestus, Hades and all other subfunctions independent. Hephaestus is the AI that creates the machines and because it's no longer controlled by Gaia, it stops taking into account human life and just creates robots that best preserve its terraforming goals. Because humans are harmful to the machines it creates increasingly weaponized machines to defend the terraforming process. What Hades does with its newfound independence is to try and destroy the world, because that's its reason to exist. It will take over Gaia and from there destroy the world. To prevent this from happening Gaia destroys itself by overloading its core reactor but before it can do so Hades launches its first "strike" on Gaia and in doing so corrupts the alpha prime registry that (initially) renders Aloy unable to enter the cradle facility and hear Gaia's dying plea.

@@DaPhantomThief Not necessarily. Hades helped the Shadow Carja reawaken the FARO military robots. They're the ones responsible for corruption not Hades. Hades just used them to carry out its objective since it became it's own entity after the sever from Gaia. Essentially it's doing the job that was given and it'll use any tool to aid it's mission

I finished replaying HZD, just today since my original playthrough back on PS4 when it launched. Some of the best sci-fi writing I can think of, and the way the story unfolded as Aloy discovers the history of the world was brilliant. The scene where Elizabet is narrating the 1,000yr plan for Gaia to terraform, rebuild, and repopulate the planet (mixed with incredible music) genuinely gave me goosebumps lol. I bought a PS5 specifically for Forbidden West. LET'S GO!

When they explained in the game how the world ended and what project zero dawn was it knocked me over with how good the story was. Like after it was explained how the faro plauge would have left earth a lifeless husk I had to take a moment to be like "oh ya as of right now earth is pretty much the only planet with a biosphere" and it shook me lol. I'm almost done with my first ever playthrough of this game in preparation for Forbidden West(I stopped the video near the end to avoid spoilers). I am genuinely impressed by this games story. It's always great to get a solid, well thought out, and well put together story in any format. I think games have a bigger opportunity to do this better than movies do, as you can have the time and length to make a bigger, better story with lore. It's great when a game takes full advantage of thier potential. The length and detail of a novel. The screenplay, visual, and audio beauty of a movie. And the direct interaction of the audience, requiring skill and effort that gives a sense of pride to the player.

I feel like Horizon has SPECTACULAR lore and backstory, but its actual moment-to-moment narrative was a bit lacking. I remember Elizabeth Sobeck and Ted Faro, I remember all those details about Operation Enduring Victory... But at the same I barely remember the actual "modern day" plot, or the names of any characters besides Aloy, Rost and Sylens. And I've beaten the game twice! Honestly, even now, having just watched the video, if someone put a gun to my head and asked me to explain the moment-to-moment plot in more detail than "Aloy goes from place to place because an evil AI wants to destroy the world for some reason", I'd say "Shoot me". Love this game, but am definitely hoping that now that we know the lore, Forbidden West will be able to put focus on the modern day narrative, as it deserves.

And that's good, because some of the sidequests had a pretty big impact and did a lot of extra storytelling. It's really your own fault for only doing the main missions and ignoring the sidequests.

@@giovannigiorgio6406 how do you approach playing the game? Do you jump from main mission to main mission, or do you explore and look for everything as you go? I can see how games like GOW are great because they keep you on the path you need to follow. Horizon zero dawn is definitely a game in which you need to explore every corner and try to collect as much info as possible in between missions. That does make it a slow burn, but it’s sooooo worth it in the end. If you play it as if your Aloy and you’re trying to find answers, then you’ll feel on top of the world when you actually beat it.

Also after all the time I spent, the combat was still mechanical and not so fun (unlike GOT where there is also a lot of combos and buttons you have to press, but the combat is much more dynamic). PS. I finished AC Origins doing 100% of quests and collectibles, so I guess HZD is just not for me lol

I've played this game quite a few times in the 5 years it's been out but something just hit me a couple days ago: this is the only game I've ever played where every enemy, aside from the watchers and humans, feels like a boss fight! I think it's because there's so many options of how to dispatch them, the feedback of all the chunks and sparks flying and their imposing size. Although I've played a few, I've never really been impressed with the bosses of Souls games because all you essentially do is chop at their ankles. The same strategy for all. I much prefer the living puzzles of Shadow Of The Colossus and the Zelda series. Horizon is the perfect balance of both worlds.

Great recap of the story, but would it be too much to ask for the narrator to get the pronunciation of the names right? I cannot expect them to play every single game and know how to pronounce everything, but there must be a support team who gives them the script and hopefully someone in there has played the game and can give the narrator some pointers. I can look past Avad’s “A-vid” and Ourea’s “O-reeah”, but the pronunciation of Banuk really gives the impression that the people behind the video do not know much about the game, which is a real shame because it was truly well thought out.

The first time I realized how good this game was gonna was when I caught myself standing in Red Rocks stadium, not having understood any of the lore up to that point, I looked at the rocks on both sides, said “wait a minute…” to myself… and as I pieced it together I did a slow turn following the rocks to where the stage should be, and there it was, clearly the ruins of where a stage was. I was blown away, and the implications of realizing you were on Earth and it was the distant future kept me fueled to play til the end of the game

This is a good game. But I hold Days Gone right up there with it. I had an equally good time with both.

That game was amazing as well. It’s such a huge bummer that there won’t be a sequel… the characters and relationships in that game were arguably better than this game. But for me this game still takes the cake. Only by a bit though.

@@hiresh4707 I think it didn’t perform well and was too underrated. It’s not impossible that there will be a sequel but the development team for the game has supposedly moved on to another IP. Research it yourself, but yes I admit it sucks.

@@hiresh4707 If you really feel that way then you are not alone. The game didn’t perform well to an unappreciating audience. It wasn’t the open world Last of Us that they wanted so reviewers tore it apart. The reviews were misleading and wrong. Some gave it a 5 out of 10 😆. The negativity spread like wildfire. There were some bugs that got patched quickly. I bought it day one and had a blast. I’ll always defend that game.

Unpopular opinion but I found the story pretty boring and too complicated - I lost interest quickly. The gameplay however was amazing and that's why I'll be buying Forbidden West.

I barley understood any of this. Feel kinda stupid but it went completely over my head and found it hard to follow. Guess that's what you get for trying to condense a story that takes around 30 hours to complete

Most likely motion blur, not sure if you can turn it off on console. Go into the settings and check it out. Motion blur is usually what makes most people feel sick.

It’s only after watching this study so far video that i actually picked an interest in this Aloy Guerilla games character & the interwoven computer science nods; sub-routines, artificial intelligence etc! Bring back Killzone, guys! Maybe I’d consider putting my SeriesX to the side for that
