The book provides clear illustrations kzbin.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO diagrams that cover many of the essential topics. The projects at the end of the book are valuable for enhancing your skills and creating your own furniture. A digital platform linked to the book that could offer the plans for other woodworking projects with the cut sheets would have been a nice addition, but overall, the book is excellent.

2:52 Pro tip -- put half of the water in the mixer before adding the first bag 👍 7:55 While filling the screw holes is a nice touch, having them, particularly on a fence, is totally fine (imho) and it allows you to easily replace the trim boards in 5 or 10 years. One way to to make them prettier is to drill a pilot hole, countersink and stain before setting the screws. You could do this as part of the original prep (cut to length, stain). That said, very nice!

Great job. Wish you had provided a material cost breakdown, there's a lot of material in this build and you saved so much money doing it yourself. My motto, if I can physically do, try it and if I fail then call in the experts. I wish you had also provided how long each step took like digging your holes, cementing the post, attaching the rails, etc. Gives the clueless and Idea of who to schedule their time. In my youth I would schedule 1 day for an activity, now at 60 I schedule 2 to 3 days.

The word expert seems to be subjective these days. There's a lot of slop-artists out there claiming to be experts, but aren't. I tend to do most things myself because I just don't trust people to do the job right anymore. Some contractors show up, and look like they don't even want to be there, and they tend to treat your home like "just another job". Before ever putting a hammer to nails people should respect the clients' homes, and put that respect, and care into the projects. If it's one thing I can't stand it's cutting corners. Do the job right the first time, and you'll never get call-backs.

Awesome job! One thing that maybe others have mentioned about the lights. Always leave the bottom of anything with sealant open so if water were to find its way behind the lights it could easily drain out the bottom. Probably not a huge deal in your case but something to keep in mind.

The fence looks awesome and does go with your house well. My personal preference when hanging lights like that on a post or wall is to caulk only the top and two sides. That way, if water does manage to get behind the light somehow, it can run out the uncaulked bottom. Credit goes to This Old House for that method.

When mounting something like the solar light where you do not want to trap water - it's better to leave the bottom open / unsealed. This allows any water that may get trapped unexpectedly to escape. Very nice fence!

It's already done, but... and DAMHIK! 1. when you spray, place a "layer" of boards on the ground, then a sticker laid perpendicular, then the boards you want to color. Then any overspray goes onto boards you can use later. Better yet (though I realize this is a sponsored vid so you want to highlight your sponsor's tools) use a roller to apply stain. It will be faster, waste far less and you won't need a respirator. 2. Predrill screw holes in the post a little smaller than the root diameter of the screws first. It'll be much easier on your tool, your arm, and though slightly slower overall, you won't lose screws if/when they run into a knot in the post, and the screw head strips. I hate stripped screws, there's nothing to do but reverse the drill, take 'em out and waste them. 3. Sure doesn't look like you get much if any rain there, but paying attention to waterproofing, ESPECIALLY ON EXPOSED END GRAIN, and where the post meets the ground, are good ideas. 4. You don't mention the gap distance between horizontal members. Looks like .... ummm.... one inch? IDK 5. 2x6 or 2x8 is expensive and likely unnecessary for the horizontal members. 1x lumber would do the job with posts 8' o/c. Looks like tools are all battery powered (?) so what is pneumatic? Suspect I know the answer but can you confirm?

Damn that fence looks amazing. I always questioned whether a horizontal wood fence would last or warp. I'm just thinking of the long runs of wood with water standing on top. My Victorian home had a subtle point cut into the porch railings. I wonder if a slight pitch could be cut into the wood with a table saw.

Nice job but like to see into future endeavors even pressure-treated or untreated if you would use tar or maybe or even flex seal product if you would spray or put the tar to the exposed wood under the cement your fence post would last 50 times to 75% longer I just say that because I've learned from families on farms to put up a lot of post 👍👍👍

I'd love to build something like this, with a gate, to close off the area where my A/C unit is (on the side of the house, in the backyard). However, the house's concrete foundation extends out further than the walls and is about 12 inches beneath the soil.. I tried driving a spike down into the ground near the wall and found out the foundation was there. Any suggestions on how to create an anchor point that butts up against the house but can't be buried into the ground?

For what its worth - the Graco sprayers are not meant to handle stains - only paint; I broke mine (luckily they replaced it) by spraying a Thompsons Water Sealer stain through it on my last project. I noticed you had switched spray guns in your vid so in the off chance it stopped working, that is why you probably ran into issues. Sweet fence!
@CGT80
@CGT80 Жыл бұрын
Both of the airless sprayers they used were Graco. There is no reason not to spray stain with the larger style airless sprayers, from the small electric units to the big gas powered ones and the air powered one I also have. I have not used the cordless ones but would assume they use a small piston and similar seals to a full size airless. They are fine for oil, water, lacquer, or shellac based products.......I have sprayed them all as a pro. The only issue would be with residue from past coatings or the current coating not being cleaned out completely. My uncle, also a pro, kept one small airless just for lacquer since it is a strong solvent that can pick up any left over paint residue from inside hoses or hard parts. Some products can be rinsed with water, but then need solvent ran through to get the residue. What was their reason for stain damaging the sprayer?

Pro tip. If you turn your circular saw around and cut in the proper direction, with the larger part of the shoe sitting on the part of the wood that you are not cutting off, then you'll have a straighter cut, since the saw will not be wobbling while you are cutting. At the 5:55 min mark, you can see what I am talking about.

Love that fence, I need it. I am curious about the missing fence armor to keep water from being permanently stuck in the wood embedded in the concrete, and why also you didn't use pressure treated posts. But from the thumbnail it did look like metal posts, good job.
