Horizontal True Diesel Model Engine

I’ve been playing with this 16cc true diesel engine lately. It it’s far from being perfect but it’s a good start for a model diesel engine. I haven’t played with the injector yet but I am hoping I can improve the spray somehow so I can get better atomisation. #diesel #dieselengine

Just saw this...thanks for being so tardy KZbin, it only recommended this today. You have a new sub, Darren :) Love your simple mods. The "free upgrades" I was offered have not been forthcoming in further emails, yet. Ima bit pissed off if we got seriouly pre-production models :(

It's not black smoke so I recon that the injection timing is rather late another thing to look at is the fuel injector is ti spraying properly and not dribbling. Looks like a nice modle though just needs finishing

I notice that there are several people who are having running problems with this new model. It's a good looking engine, but it's looks would be helped if the manufacturer fitted the flywheel the correct way round so the spokes are in the opposite direction. Don't forget to put oil in the cylinder lubricator too, and turn it on- as its bone dry! Did you have and coolant in the tank too? I am contemplating getting one of these once all its running problems are fully sorted out, but like all new models, there's always much room for improvement. You have a great channel!!! 👍

couple things to look at check that it is injection on tdc exactly if its firing after that can be a cause of the white smoke another thing is if its got enough compretion to burn the fuel cleanly having a guess it dose not purely by size and the stress on small components but if you want to fiddle whit the injector i can imagen it will have a spring in it that pushes it closed if you put a stronger spring in should rise the injection preshure and hoply give it better atomisation.

I have been playing with injector timing, pump stroke was way too much there for a while and the engine would want to race away. I've now changed a couple of things around on the governor, still not perfected but at least i've got some variables that I can adjust now.. still trying to find a lighter spring for my throttle lever. The engine racing away was the reason why i installed the decompression lever but i think my adjustments to the governor has overcome that problem now. I've found that lever has been good for starting, saves my cordless drill and hopefully i'll be able to crank start it as well down the track, not a chance atm. I think the biggest improvement will be seen if i can get the injector to atomize better. I have't looked at that yet, still trying to sort out other issues.

An observation when it comes to a stop it seems to do so rather abruptly as though something is tight, I would expect it to come up against a compression and bounce back at least half a turn

Good observation. Side shaft is tight giving the gears grief. I suspect the valve springs have been changed for heavier as I haven't heard of any gasoline models having any trouble. The water pump needs refinement as well, i can see that its cam has grabbed at some stage and span on the shaft.

I dont think he understands what is involved with running old style engines and the constant lubing that has to be done, even the visible gears looked dry and he didn't even attempt to oil them at any time during the run

Sorry, I don't want to be unkind, but development is obviously not yet complete. The engine produces a lot of white smoke, which indicates a bad injection. In addition, the piston uses rubber as a piston ring, which means that even if the injector works right, a smooth slow long idle is not possible due to the heat expansion. Futhermore the FKM ring is not meant to work in such harsch condiditions and wears off pretty soon.

@@niffi2 not unkind at all, I didn’t build the engine, I’m trying to improve it. Injector definitely needs looking at but I haven’t played with that side of things yet. Congratulations on your engine, how can I find out more?

@@Darren_Fawcett Sorry, i meant unfriendly towards the builder. He certainly invested a lot of time in the development. You can be happy with the engine, after all it runs on real diesel and it is cheaper. But you shouldn't expect the engine to run like Find Hansen's or our engines. The effort required for flawless piston rings, valves, the pump and a well-atomizing injector is high and means a lot of manual work and precise measurements. We will be launching a new channel in the next few days that will be dedicated exclusively to this engine.

It seems like the machine is broken, but the seal ring won't fail. Because it's specially made to withstand 300 degrees Celsius. The precision and manufacturing cost of the seal ring are more than ten times that of a steel ring. Moreover, the atomization effect of the fuel nozzle is adjustable; it's movable. If it can be started with such an effect, what about after adjustment? I hope we can have a normal discussion moving forward.

Aliexpress. But i would wait until it is on sale on stirlingkit, enginediy, etc. I think they will fix some issues with the engine in the future.

I have a Situan Sifa MB168F diesel. I made an adapter sleeve for it's 20 MM crankshaft. I likes to be mounted on thick plate aluminum. Chinese castings are the best and it's affordable. You're trying to make your motor run too slowly and there's no learning.

His engine was the inspiration for this engine for sure. But that’s where the similarities stop. You could say this is the budget base model copy whereas his engines are refined and run quite well.

@@borna430 I didn’t pay 1700 for this particular model, purchased it back in October when it still had a lot of flaws, the new model has had upgrades to the side shaft gearing- no more brass gears, no more water pump lockups and the injection system had been improved. I’m waiting for a few of the refined parts to arrive then I’ll give it another run. Indeed it is not running too well in the video, this video was made up of several short clips made over the course of a week while I was tinkering and making little adjustments and modifications. In one of the clips I had only just added the spring and lever to the governor so I was mucking about seeing how slow I could get it to run. All while dealing with gearing that was slipping and loosing timing…caused by a faulty non return valve on a water pump that would only play up at higher rpm so I didn’t pick up on it until after the gears had stripped out. Thomas was having similar troubles with his engine as well. Those little problems were fed back to the manufacturer who has now included some of my modifications in his latest release of engines as well as making improvements of his own. I’m yet to try the new engine so I’m keen to see how well it runs compared to this version.
