Your engines are works of art. Their small scale becomes apparent when your hand enters the video, making them even more amazing when you consider the tiny gears, valves, springs and screws you had to make. It's always a pleasure to watch them run.

Like most diesel engines running on pump diesel, once the engine gets warmed up to near 90 degrees C, it will run a little smoother, quieter, and make less smoke.

There are a few diy / “open source” designs for a “Dynamometer” out there if i remember correctly. I think the most basic form is just a motor/generator, a multimeter, and some sort of electrical load? I do remember something about load cells too. At the end of the day even just lighting up some LEDs or a Radio as another comment suggested would be really neat!

Awesome, this has answered one of my biggest questions regarding your true diesels. Now my biggest question is how it would go doing some work, perhaps driving a mini water pump? I'm in awe of your workmanship still, and I've known of your engines since I was 12 or 13, 2012/2013.

I am a subscriber to your channel MrFactotum, and a great admirer. If you have only just discovered Mr Hansen, you are in for a real treat watching his previous videos (which I very strongly recommend) - an absolutely first-class craftsman, and I think a man after your own heart. He seems not have published any plans, but perhaps he will answer for himself. He has a couple of videos describing construction of some of his masterworks, but none actually showing all his processes. Essentially it's old lathes, a bit of milling, and very skilled hands, combined with a real engineers design ability. I have seen no other true model diesels, perhaps they exist (most things do, somewhere) but at this scale it is miraculous he has worked out a system for getting them to run, it seems to have taken him several decades, using old early 20th century engines for inspiration, and working forward from hot bulb engines to true diesels.

@@thisnicklldo eyup tnld, i know you sub to me, it registers with me all the subscribers who take interest by commenting to me. I try to make a point of remembering everyone👍👍 Thanks for taking time to message me, yes he's a great miniature ( some say model but model to me doesn't do any craftsman justice) engineer and machinist, i was particularly interested in his gear cutting on his lathe as i was thinking in advance to perhaps make my micro lathe do similar, in the future, once i get it finished, tested and used. There is some great people on you tube sharing their skills, some go above and beyond in sharing their knowledge. I get why he does'nt produce plans, it's his individuality of workmanship and it can get very time consuming when many want his attention and most don't intend to do anything with it. So each to their own. It's a shame though his unique work isn't drawn up and detailed, or may be it is!!!!!privately ATB👍👍👍👍Kev

The difference is slight, but the knocking sound at injection seems a little louder on diesel. What grade of diesel was that?

You are welcome for my watching, but thank you more for providing me with something good and wholesome to watch! Will the cold engine start on diesel? We had a tractor on the farm which started on one type of fuel then when warm, switch to gasoline. Could have been "white gas" to start. Just curious! Thank you again!

I wonder how high sulfur diesel performs in that compared to low sulfur and even ultra low sulfur diesel compares. They do have Cetane booster you could add to the pump fuel and it does bring back the performance of ULSD to the combustion performance of higher sulfur diesel I don't think diesel lubricant substitutes would be needed for that small engine since it is not running for for long periods of time but it would not hurt to add it.

@putteification11 ай бұрын
A great benefit of it is the smell, or rather the complete lack of it.
@nerd1000ify Жыл бұрын
Be careful to remove all the pump diesel from your fuel system afterwards. The reason for this is that modern pump diesel usually contains a little biodiesel. Over time it corrodes any parts made of copper alloys, creating a greenish sludge as residue! This isn't a problem for full sized diesels as they don't use copper parts in their fuel systems, however for your engine it could cause damage. With a copper free fuel system, 100% biodiesel would be an excellent fuel, much less offensive exhaust smell and superior lubrication qualities compared to petro-diesel.
@ericlotze7724 Жыл бұрын
Is that true in all countries or what? Which country are you in where that is the case is probably a better eay to word my question. Either way caution and prevemtative maintain is good i guees. Also i am a MAJOE alternative fuels nerd, so in will take note on the potential Biodiesel issues! I know in the USA Biodiesel is rare (although all gasoline is E15 or so), B100 and various lower mixes are listed on the Energy.gov “alternative fuel center” but my area has none sadly.
@nerd1000ify Жыл бұрын
@@ericlotze7724 I'm sure there is regional variation, but biodiesel is a common additive used to increase the 'lubricity' of the fuel, which is otherwise reduced by the chemical process which removes the sulfur from the fuel to turn it into ULSD. In Europe the EN590 standard for diesel fuels permits a biodiesel content of up to 7%.

They stopped using clips in the eighties to ease the recycling. Then they began using them again. Now we have both, I rarely see a glued newspaper. Same with envelopes. They have been recyclable, then not, then they were and now they are not. Humanity is running in circles as usual.

To be honest, kerosene, lamp oil and diesel is nearly identical, it's really only purity that differ. Kerosene is a pure and very clean form of fuel oil, wheres pump diesel has all kinds of crap, crud, water and emmissions related additives in it. In fact im fairly sure lamp oil is just another name for kerosene.
