Looks great! I don't have any horn or bone but Thinking off either using some hard walnut or I have a little piece of Manzanita wood I might try

All the horn and bone you could want is just a trip to the pet store away…

What's usual length of overlays? Mine are usually approx 2" long.

I’m right in that neighborhood too, but more frequently closer to the 1.5”-1.75” range unless the material dictates otherwise.

Maybe you can educate me a little more about fast flight, d97 and b-55 string material. I've tried d97 on several of my D-shaped longbows, and even a few more modern/ precise deflex reflex bows. The only difference I can see is that the bow is a lot less forgiving with low stretch string material. If I were competing with an Olympic style recurve or even a really nice barebow, I think I would see a little bit of benefit from the low stretch d97, fast flight type materials. But with my self-bows and even some of the nicer backed longbows, I don't see much, If any difference. I prefer b55 because it just seems more forgiving. Less hand shock, & quieter. That's my experience, but I don't know a whole lot more about it. Beautiful tip! Overlays though! I've never used horn. 17:47

I’m a B-50 bow string junky… I agree that it is more forgiving and generally better for a bow. I typically make pretty highly strained bow designs that I think benefit from the forgiveness of B-50. I’ll step up to low-stretch strings like D97 when I’m trying to grab a little more performance out of a lower stressed design similar to this. I’ll also use low-stretch strings on light-weight bows - again to grab a little more arrow speed.

I can't speak to whether or not low-stretch strings make one's shot more erratic. Been using these type strings for so long that don't have way to compare. What DO know is that arm protector went in garbage when switch was made. I hated arm protectors. 🙂
