I used a recurve a few years back of a buddies. Wow. Then to come accross your channel ohyeah. I tried the poplar wood bow with it to just snap at the beginning of tillering. Used a piece I had grain was bad. Picked up some oak so I have two in the glue up process. Thank keep the videos coming. Your channel is inspiring

@kramerammonsarchery I'm going to try this to repair the tip on an old bow. I have the wood working experience to do this. I only have one concern. The front of the bow has a fiberglass lamination, and it is made in 1950. My fear is that the fiberglass will delaminate once I remove a bit to get to the wood for gluing. Any thoughts? Your work is amazing

Thnx for the video. If you have a backing on the bow, would you put the tip overlay on top of that? Or sand it down to the wood at the tip before you put on the overlay block?

Man I'm loving channel 💯, I've been wanting to try making my own now for some time now and I'm very happy to have found your video's so I can better understand the actual process! I live in Arizona and have plenty of access to mesquite trees and would like to try to make one out of one of them, what's your thoughts on that?

Im sure its been said already but table salt sprinkled over the pieces to be glued up, will keep everything from sliding around. And because wood glue is water based, the salt will dissolve and leave the joint as strong as it normally would be.

I'm really enjoying your channel. This video is great, I needed this one for sure. To help with gluing up laminates try sprinkling a small amount of salt between the glue covered surfaces, it really helps to stop the slipping and sliding effect between the layers.

What's the difference between tip overlay. Or adding horn to the bow limb tips? You should try building a Mi'kmaq double bow. It's the bow preferred by the Mi'kmaq and Maliseet tribes. In the U.S it's referred to as the "penobscot double bow" Great way to lay down the marks to carve your string groves. I've been struggling with that little detail!

I made a bow (elm/glass) in September, after I broke it in October, sob, I post-mortemed it. The horn limb tips had been stuck on with Uhu superglue gel, holy crap batman that was stuck on well! My remake is shooting well but I've chickened out of using faster strings... For now

By trade I am a woodworker I would suggest if want to do single overlays at a time just add alittle bit of table salt on the pieces after you glue and than add another. Salt dissipates and I would say you still maintain the same strength of the piece.. You do great work. just wrote but would like you to build a 3 piece bow "oak or ibe"/fiberglass/bamboo, really would love to see it.

I've been using gorilla wood glue, does any1 have anything to say about that. Seems to work for me but I'd like some other opinions
@jasonellis3379
@jasonellis3379 3 жыл бұрын
I'm a wood carver just dipping my feet into bow making. The gorilla wood glue is almost same as titebond type 2. Titebond 3 is a little stronger and water resistant. But I have used the type 2 stuff for cutting boards with no issues with water.

Hey there, new to your channel and I am really enjoying your videos! I have seen you score the wood a number of times before gluing pieces together, and have to say that it's not exactly best practice. I have done quite a bit of research and testing and have always found that a smooth surface will always hold a stronger glue bond than a scored one. I am sure you have had good luck with your current method, but just thought I would offer an alternative.

I would never use acetone to clean any glue surface that was wood. If the MC is good blow it off and glue it. Composites will not retain acetone so clean it. It appeared you overlay was laid on grain oriented crossways instead of lengthwise ?
