Ryan is absolutely the man. Extremely underrated instructor. He explains things so well.

I’m a retired educator and finally have the opportunity to dabble with affordable bench rest and long(er) range shooting. I stumbled across Ryan’s “Long Range Shooter’s Handbook” and was drawn to his no nonsense intellectual approach. As an unbiased purveyor of knowledge I spent a 41-year career helping people put knowledge to work! It was obvious he is an educator and solver not an eliminator and tester. So much of what is out there is contrived information to sell a product to enhance someone’s bottom line. I’ve read volume 1 twice and ready for volume 2! Quality guest Hornady‼️

Love this guy. Tells it how it is. Tells it in a professional manner. Been following Ryan Cleckner for years. His How to videos are what made me finally understand MRAD . when I made the switch from MOA a few years ago.

Excellent conversation. Mr Cleckner's books are an integral part of my library, and when heading out to practice, the "Basics" is always in my range bag.

Ryan's book is a MUST! I grew up hunting with a family heirloom Win M88 in .308 and shot that until the stock developed a hairline crack. We started hunting WY for Antelope right when that happened, so I wanted a flat shooting replacement for longer shots on 'spooky' Antelope. After a year of serious research and debate I picked up a Ruger Predator in 6.5 Creed in 2015 and started sponging up EVERTYTHING I could find on long range shooting. Between Ryan's Long Range Shooting Handbook, Bryan Litz' Applied Ballistics book and the incredibly _detailed_ "Sniper 101" video series on Tiborasaurus Rex's YT channel, I drilled a 10" plate at 500 yards my first time ever at that range and put 12 shots in a row on it without missing a beat. My dad and our hunting buddy were totally blown away. Even with my .308 I was a fan of Hornady loads because it's so dang consistent, and my Ruger shoots both the 140 and 147 ELD-M's 0.4 MOA at 100, and I can hit that 10" plate out at 700 yards even with some decent wind from the prone in my sleep. Seems I'm bit of a 'natural'/'freak of nature' at shooting, so thanks for the shooting lessons Ryan!

I have thoroughly enjoyed learning from Ryan since his NSSF "Cleaning you barrel" and MOA vs MIL. His content on WPSN are great as well. Like he said early, his method of teaching is not to brag about what he can do, but this is simple. I loved that. Kyle Lamb is the same way for the tactical side. Both have been my inspiration and what I keep going back to their videos. (I wrote the addition of Kyle before he added that the two of them worked together 🙂) The 300 PRC MIGHT be my first 30 cal since my initial 308. I am stuck on 7mm since I got my Grandfather's 7mmExp and went to a 7mm-08, 7RM, 7SS and 280AI. The 7PRC looks like a factory version of my 7SS.

Ryan is my favorite gun guy. However, the nothing fancy project has been doing KZbin videos since 2008 and he has purchased or borrowed everything that he reviews. He does not take donations and is straight up and will call a turd a turd if it is. Good to see you this sort of honesty in the industry. Thanks again for the great video.

"Long Range Shooting" is a dog eared, sticky note bible on shooting, long range or otherwise. Everyone that shoots rifles or wants to shoot rifles, should consider keeping this book close by as a ready reference.

I like to dry fire on live game at distance, if I have the time, a few times. When the cross hair are holding spot on, I let'r go. In boot camp we dry fired so much using a figure 8 pattern on painted trash cans. It made me pretty consistent and accurate- Fun.

Just now saw this one. Always humble Ryan. I have his book. It was the first book I bought for long range shooting and has been, so far, the best for me. Some really basic things such as having your eye focus on the reticle, rather than the target. Find the moment of calm to break the shot. Take any rifle capable of 1 MOA and get used to it. In fact, even though there is an attitude that you can buy accuracy, it is far better to get a moderately or fairly priced rifle and spend more of your money on ammo. I have seen another interview he did with Erik at Believe the Target. He would probably not win a PRS competition for points. But he will take a 1 MOA rifle and put a round in 10.45 inches at a grand, if he must. However, as a Ranger Sniper, getting closer was part of the job. Camoflage and getting in closer and undetected provides a better shot, always. I liked his choice in service of the .300 WM. Good wind performance. He could dial for distance and then hold left or right edge of target into the wind to put a round in a 20 in by 24 in target. To me, that is similar to the point of deer hunting, which is my activity (I have never served in the military because of a medical disqualification.) With a whitetail, my zone is an 8 inch pie plate. And if I want to apply MPBR thinking, then I limit to 4 inches over / under. Full disclosure. After being a .308 fanatic for years (having more than one rifle in that caliber,) I have been bitten by the 7 mm PRC bug and got one. So, now, I am working on tuning myself and my rifle to the Precision Hunter 175 gr ELD-X. The recoil is more than the .308 but I think it is probably more accurate to say the impulse is sharper. My .308 pushes 165 gr at 2700. Slow and cushy. The 7 PRC is pushing 175 gr at 3k. With a lot of energy leftover. My intention is to have it has a general hunting rifle that can also get elk and mule deer, which I also hope to hunt. The performance of that round is really cool. And it has not as much felt recoil as maybe a .300 PRC. Also, listening to Ryan's ideas remind me of the Hornady twin podcasts on group sample size for patterning dispersion. Great stuff, guys.

Aldo Leopold said, "ethical behavior, is doing the right thing when no-one is watching", My question is, would you rather have a very stable shooting position at 250 yards OR an iffy position to shoot offhand at 150 yards? Just curious what your opinions are. Obviously more stable up close is the best but hunting doesn't always offer the best shooting positions.

Great pod cast. But with the bullets coming out now days not just from Hornady, but berger and nosler, I'll still stick with the 30/06, 6.5 swede and 300 win mag! If I was in FTR 308 too 🤣🤣🤣🤣. If you reload, good brass prep has allot to do with accuracy and performance. Keep making them awesome bullets!! Have a great Easter

I am confused a bit by Ryan...so many championship shooters say the wind inside the first 50 yards will affect your hits the most...Ryan says differently. As a new competitor for mid-range F Class (6.5 Creed)...what should I do?

Sorry, have to disagree with the fact that if you have a spent project dial #DATA mobile a success. Mini spent projectiles often dug out of decaying animals or ones that have been chased for a mile and a half. Just because the animal sure comes eventually, does not make the project dial Jay terminal ballistics success.
