Thanks for the mention Danny. The APT certainly is an impressive train pack. There was some negative feedback at the time regarding the requirement of the 3 decoders & the over large capacitors, but you can’t please everyone, all of the time. I decided to upgrade to Hunts couplings & improve the interior (as you mentioned) and the results were very satisfying.

Hi Danny, I think these are beautiful trains, I love mine. They are certainly very impressive on a layout. Cheshire Lines does sell transfers for the seats if you want to go that route.

Excellent stuff Danny! Apt has always been a favourite of mine and glad you’ve got one of the revised sets , I got the 1st run of the overly priced, useless lights and underpowered motor , but I still love it 😅 just got another power car with the 21 pin decoder and hopefully that will get it around a bit better or I’ll use two motorised power cars , hope you get some great fun from it as it does look impressive running around, take care mate , cheers Darrell 😊👍

Wow thank you Darrell mate I absolutely love it and will be hoping to do a project where I can paint the tables and get some tartan decals for the seats and also fit seated passengers to enhance the look of it even more, so far so good running it in, it has ran for about 4 hours in total between today and yesterday and issues touch wood and no derailment which is good 😅 many thanks as always for watching and commenting very much appreciated kind regards Danny 😀 😊

Hi Danny, great to see you have an APT set, I remember the first sets back in the 80’s, the price was way to high for me, the first time a really saw it in the flesh so to speak was in the early 90’s at Cheltenham Model Centre, it blew me away because of its sheer size, the real train had a lot of government funding but the technology was underdeveloped as they tried to rush it into production because of media pressure, I believe the technology was sold on to other countries that made it work, back to the model that is the second run which Hornby rushed into production and missed an open goal with cutting corners, I have the 5 car set and additional coaches and the special ex-development coach, I’m upgrading the lighting to Esu controllable type, I hope to get the black windscreen surrounds like you get on the 7 car set, I hope you get a great deal of joy from your set mate, thanks for sharing.

Hi again, I believe you have the 3rd run with the upgrades Hornby should have fitted to the 2nd run, the visible huge capacitor and the dodgy couplings and the larger dcc decoder access panel if you have the 21 pin model and the beefed up motor chassis to the bogies that have a tendency to cracking, I’ve seen a metal pantograph that replaces the plastic effort Hornby supply with this set, the interior could have been painted correctly but yet again Hornby couldn’t be bothered, there are so many options to make this lovely set better, you are correct that it is a superb hobby.
