It’s a much better loco than I had initially thought it would be. Yes it’s a Railroad model with a fictitious livery but it seems to run well and the sound chip is a significant improvement over TTS. In my opinion it’s a fun loco and that’s something the naysayers often forget. Nobody forced anyone to buy one and I’m sure that those who did buy one will not be disappointed. We all need a wee bit fun in our hobby sometimes! Nice video. I’ve just subscribed and am looking forward to catching up on all your others.

Nice review. To the moaners, God forbid anyone should want to have a bit of fun with model trains. Glad you're enjoying the sound. I find it brilliant on the TT120 models.

Thank you for the info , very bizarre locomotive indeed. I actually like those plastic fantastic class 66's , they look cheap but they run , run pretty well and they are heavy. I wish they have some working lights. I have well over 10 of them and never paid more than AU$ 130 ( ~ 65 Quid / GBP ) for them , majority from Amazon ( free delivery ) except the pink one with TTS sound , it was a bit more. So , I logged into my Club account to look at it and .....purchased one , it was just a few minutes ago and it must be the last one , "out of stock" now , how lucky! Thank you again for the tip. And this one has the new Triplex Sound decoder , can not wait to compare it with my pink TTS ( Twin / two track ) sound. cheers jack

@@dustyshelfcollectables A bit of surprise , I did not get Club discount on this loco purchase , did email Hornby and we have new rules : The Hornby Collector now gives 15% reward points (10% discount has been removed) The TT:120 Club now gives 20% reward points (15% discount has been removed) so no more price reduction , no more Club discounts........

I have just purchased one of these, very pleased with it. What lighting kit would you recoment for this model and where from?

I wouldn't know what to suggest, maybe other can offer some advice, however on a coach project I bought a read switch from layouts4u and some 3v led strips from amazon hooked these to a small battery and I can not turn the light on and off with a magnet, this may work? anyway thank you so much for watching.

depends on price but i guess you could re programme the decoder and use it for a re paint if it was cheap enough as a club loco

Well it more than the decoder, but easily repainted and reprogrammed. As always many thanks!

Hi, I like the fact that a model railway manufacturer has made a train to commemorate the new king, let’s face it Hornby have always done this so it’s not new, what gets me is that they chose a Railroad model to do it on, I’m not a fan of Railroad and never will be because it’s old Lima and even older Trang mouldings, they have better specification diesels they could have used, it’s not tacky or vulgar in my opinion it’s just a very cheap way to do what they did, zero disruption to the factory to produce it. I used to be a collectors club member and found it to be very poor value for money, Bachmann’s collectors club is so much better in what you get for your money again this is my opinion, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comment, I guess this was always about the price point, I think they probably decided on the selling price first, decided on the TX chip as the USP and found a loco for the cost of the difference. as a whole not a bad effort and we did get the coronation earlier in the year (and that was very good). I have been a Bachmann club member on and off and indeed have on my video plan list to review the grey undercoat Tornado from a few years back. Anyway thank you for watching and again for taking the time to comment.

a propper thinking british company that cared about our monarchy would have realised lizzy wasn't getting any younger and would have had them stock piled just waiting to receive a tampo stamped date and lube.... but yes exceptionally tacky and a money grab ,, doesn't help folks bringing dianna into it either

I didn't use the app. I just ran it as a DCC loco.

I guess you could sell on the chip, if you are not going to use it and recoup some of the loco cost?

@dustyshelfcollectables I do use my models and collect royal trains specifically. I like it apart from god save the king as I am an atheist, so it looks daft to me. What I meant was, I ran it as a regular DCC sound loco and didn't need to use the Hornby app.

Hi Matt. Sorry mate but, IMHO, a pathetic attempt to rake in money by Hornby. If the detail etc. is so good, why don't they apply such dedication to so many of their other poorly detailed locos. A bit pricey as well. This loco should only be running around a child's layout or in the possession of a collector and is definitely not for a serious model railway enthusiast. Ciao, Paul. 👍❤

ahahaha who decides who is a serious enthusiast? You? I have nearly 300 locos. Am I serious? I bought one of these and I don't like the "God save the King" bit of it but the rest I do.

@@modelrailwaynoob You sarcastically ask if I decide who is a serious enthusiast well no, it’s someone like Charlie @ Chadwick and people who try to base their large (or small) and well thought out plans on a prototypical setting for their layout. I have to ask myself why you have so many locos as, for obvious reasons, you can’t be running them all so it appears you fall into the category of ‘collector’ in which case that explains your desire for owning this particular loco as there are far more Class 66s available that are more appropriate for the layout of a serious enthusiast. I am also asking myself how many ‘Thomas The Tank’ engines you possess. And no, I don’t think you are a serious OO Gauge enthusiast but you probably like to look upon yourself as one because a serious enthusiast does not qualify in that department by simply throwing his/her money at every loco that catches their eye. Someone who is serious about their layout goes for quality and not quantity and this Class 66 certainly does not qualify under the heading of ‘quality’. As the saying goes... ‘Less is more!’. And try signing off with a name so people know who they are dealing with unless, of course, you have something to hide; it's only good manners! Paul.

@@platformten5958 You have probably discovered by now that your opinion doesn't count. I don't own any Thomas trains although I have bought some for a child. Do you still have yours as well as your dummy? I have ran all of my locos. I have the benefit of five layouts currently at my home, although two belong to someone else. I tend to run mine however on club layouts - the club is open four nights a week, so yes I do run several each time I go. As for a collector? I don't consider myself to be anything. I just like what I like. What I don't do is tell other people what they should like. That says a lot about you. Giving yourself a thumbs up too. It made me smile. PS I have lots of other class 66 locos :)

Another breathtakingly cynical cash grab by Hornby and a loco with a motor that is frankly the most unmaintainable, and irreparable thing I have every encountered. They used thus motor to replace the ringfield, and frankly it tuns very slightly better, but is extremely fragile and impossible to fix. It's a microcosm of the strategic dead ends that Hornby has been on for about 15 to 20 years.

@@dustyshelfcollectables I can only say I am pleased if you are pleased. There is never anything wrong in that. Having had a loco with the same motor, which failed after running it about twice, and the sheer horror of how badly engineered that motor bogie is, I simply won’t forgive Hornby for still using it.
