Good one Ronald. And thanks for all your utube videos which I thoroughly enjoy. My HD horror story --- I grew up in Montreal in the 1950's and I got the CPR freight set for Christmas. When we returned to Britain, I decided to convert my CPR loco back to a Duchess by sawing off the cow catcher and painting it LMS scarlet. Made a complete mess of it! I also tried to convert the CPR caboose back to a guards wagon and made a complete mess of that as well! Happyish ending -- Many years later after leaving home, I heard this strange noise at a model train expedition reminiscent of something in my deep emotions! Searching for the source, I came across a 3 rail HD set up. The noise that had taken me back to my childhood was the metal wheels on the tin plate track! Glorious sound! Started collecting 3 rail HD and thoroughly enjoy running them with my grandchildren. I used to let them run my modern trains, but these are not really made for children's hands so I now let them run my treasured HD. Tough stuff that has lasted over 70 years or so! Cheers and Rock On Ronald!

one of the most beautiful layouts I've ever seen. Understated simplicity with clearly a very appreciative eye for model railway history and functional operation. simply marvellous.

Hump shunting with Hornby Dublo? Now I've seen everything. But you prove that the Dublo coupling system DID work - and I've seen your other videos on coupler maintenance, and that is the key. Such a great layout, it totally captures the look of the era when Dublo was king. You know, most of us as kids had a loop of track, couple of sidings, maybe a building or two...but what we SAW in our imaginations... is what you have built here.

u have a lovely layout can i ask what size screw do you use to hold the track down ?
@Raedodd52 жыл бұрын
I find that 2mm x 10 or 12mm countersunk heads are best for Dublo 3 rail track, they hold the rails in place (due to the tapered countersunk head) and do not short out the third rail. Also they are much neater than large screws.

Hi Ronald good evening I am a subscribers to you. my question i am new to the three rail system which watching your fantastic layout can you help me I have purchased a West Country class barnstable +a Cardiff castle Cardiff castle in two rail which I have purchased the bits for both from mainly trains to convert these locos to three rail but the two rails have isolating wheels on one side were the three rail do not have will they run on the three rail track I have purchased some some installation paint to paint on the installation Centre of the wheels is that correct do I need to do this it would be great for you help because it looks like to me after looking at you Channel on these loco you are the expert many thanks Colin.
@Raedodd52 жыл бұрын
Yes Colin, conductive paint work if you remove a little of the original paint on the end of the axle and wheel boss, otherwise you can rig up a small spring wire that rus on the wheel and is connected to the chassis/ground.
