For anyone wishing to add pick ups on the dummy power car. I purchased 2 Hornby spares X7891 bogie for power car. They come complete with wheels, the all important pick ups, bogie frame etc. The front bogie is a direct swap, but the rear needs to be stripped as well as the other spare bogie and the pick ups from the spare bogie salvaged. They are a straight fit in to the existing rear bogie without any modifications as there are provisions for pick ups just not fitted. I fitted an 8 -pin DCC socket with directional lighting. It cost me £11 plus p&p for both bogies.

Thanks. Great video. I’ve just got back into my old Hornby trains. The HST is my favourite train of all time as I used to travel on it all the time as a kid in the 80’s. This set is currently selling for £100. You’ve sold it to me. 😉👍👍

No they still use them think they can do more damage than good if a loco gets stuck the wheels can still turnnto help protect the motor a little but if not ot can be forcing trying to turn burn the motor out or worse! aaaaand if i remember rightly if you check the class37 review i did that has them too and thats supposed to be a new model! Glad you liked the video! It is a shame about the lights and extra coach as older starter sets had at least lights front and back sometimes directional and 4 cars minimum but at that price that does sound more worth the money at that price! Really glad the video is helping you out thanks for watching😊

We have it here Western Australia at $ 319.99 about £ 166... I'm looking around for something simple, average. I'm finding model trains are like hifi. In terms of price, quality and target market. Stores here seem to have a lot of sets on order which is business as usual. Still try to get my head around 1,2 3 radius thing and how it relates to my space. And if I wanted double tracks. Then with TT you seem to pay more and get less , bit like hifi.. The hum might be due to type of rectification used . If half- wave would be very noisy. Years ago ( many) i had Hornby and the control was a heavy grey metal box. Yes the free roll test is a good test . Dad did same test with real cars for university course .
@Themodelrailer
@Themodelrailer Жыл бұрын
Awesome go good to hear from someone from a different country and how you find them! Yeah the radius can be a pain basically unless you have one of the tiny locos always go minimum 2nd radius that way any loco you have will will run on it! And thanks the free roll test wasnt really meant to be a thing but since it started with one of my bullet tankers thought a good thing to see how well they move on their own to help with train drag so glad you enjoy that bit! And thanks for watching!😊

Good review. I bought the virgin HST a number of years ago and it came with 2 mk3 s and lights on both power cars . It looks like hornby have modified the power cars with screws rather than clips and more authentic looking lights but cut costs on the dummy car lights.

@helpful_hobbies8985 I also believe that hornby no longer manufacture traction tyers for HSTs manufactured in China. You can seemingly only purchase traction tyers for HSTs manufacturerd in the UK 🤔is this true?

Nice set and if this helps. The power cars are ex-Lima. Illuminated models make head/tail lighting kits for these HST's as long as you won't mind retro fitting them mate. I will be reviewing the 1990's Hornby Train sets once a month. I am starting off with a freight set and it will be up this Sunday :). Here is a like from me and I have subbed as well mate :). Peter.

@@Themodelrailer Anytime man. If you need any help in the hobby or some tips. Just let me know here or reach out on my channel and I will be help to lend a hand. That HST should be able to handle a 2-8 formation if you wish to lengthen it in the future. Being ex-Lima, it should be 100g heavier than the original Hornby power cars of the 1970's. Tomorrow and as long as it arrived to me, I will be reviewing a 1986 Lima HST Train Set that started it all off for me in that year and this time. I am going to add lights into it this time because although Lima had lights on the standalone models. They never added these into the train set version and the same with the cab interiors back in the 1980's. All the best Peter.

@@Themodelrailer I think it would be great if you covered the older train sets that you have mate. I for one would watch and like them! They are more popular than you might think mate. I forget to mention that this chassis on this GWR model will fit on all Lima bodyshells as well, so if you wanted to modernise any of the Lima HST's, just buy the power car loose, and then use the Hornby chassis in the Lima model and add a sound decoder with a bass speaker of the Valenta sounds. Prepare to be amazed from this simple mod. It's way cheaper than paying £362 for the Hornby premium model as well. Also you can add a driver into the cab of the GWR HST as well as Kato make the HO scale driver figure packs and I buy mine from Plaza Japan. I had fitted many over the years. Anyway, I look forward to seeing your older train sets. Trust me, these videos will be more popular than anticipated ;). All the best Peter.

@Themodelrailer
@Themodelrailer 7 ай бұрын
Hi there ok so i have just taken the body off it to check those wires go to the pickups underneath that get power from the track! They can sometimes be a little looser depending how much extra there is on the wires! if the loco just came off but is running fine with no problems then will be ok to use as normal if you wish you can take the body off and see if the wires will pull up slightly if they appear to be catching on anything if you are unsure i will do a video showing this but again if they just look a little loose but attached and the loco is running fine then it should be ok! Hope this helps you anything else let me know see if i can help further if there are any more or other problems with it! Thanks for watching😊

Hi, model railer. How do you change the traction tyres on the model?
@Themodelrailer
@Themodelrailer Ай бұрын
I havent had to change mine yet but it would require a small pick and simply flicking the old ones off you may need to remove the outer part of the bogie or drop the axle through the frame so nothing blocks the tyre coming off either that or a more favourable option would be to replace the driven axles with wheels that dont require tyres as can help save the motor etc if it gets stuck for any reason. Hope this helps😊

Oh wow ok will look out for this issue with mine if your other locos seem to run ok check there is nothing wrapped around the wheels or cogs that can cause resistance also see if the motor gets too warm or hot as it could be the motor that is failing (running slower is usually a sign of this) give it all a thorough clean and oil to see if that helps and let me know how you get on! It sounds unfortunately then like the motor may be on its way out or one of the commutators has possibly burned out on it i know they are relatively cheap to buy online however a motor swap is something i have never had to do yet i guess ive been lucky in that way but apart from the main driving cog on the motor arm i think they are relatively easy to swap out.
