Thanks for the interview Dawn and with Martyn at the helm it looks like Hornby might be on a better track once again. Not completely convinced yet and his reply on the Black 5 was probably “economical with the truth.” His 5 year vision was interesting but I think their spread may still challenge their market leadership thanks to the disrupters who have made them change for the better.

This is the 3rd social media interview I have seen with Martyn Weaver and he strikes me as being quite an astute guy. I think he's more the kind who lets his head rule his heart but does have a degree of passion for the hobby. Hopefully he and his team will take onboard how social media and the opinions expressed there are very relevant even if sometimes skewed by some characters. Obviously a very professional interview.

Great video. I would like to see Hornby add cab lights to their Class 60 model and do more new liveries on their updated 21 pin model. One of their best models in my opinion. Well done on the interview.

Great interview. Delighted to hear that Hornby will focus on the Railroad range. Whenever people complain about how expensive and inaccessible model trains are, I point them to the Railroad Class 55 Deltic - £120 with Bluetooth DCC sound fitted. What a spectacular bargain! No other manufacturer on the market comes anywhere close! And I find that kids absolutely love sound functions. Really enhances play potential.

Very interesting interview - I was rather disappointed not to hear anything more on greater spares availability in the future for older, and quite recent models. I have contacted Hornby many times regarding a part, only to be told ' we don't stock that any more'...

Very nice to hear the MDs views ,but please expand your railroad range .I have bought a lot of that ranges locos with no problem with running .We do need more coaches plus goods wagons. ,on a pension I can just afford this range which I,am more than happy with .😊

Hi Dawn great interview as always. Love the cut away shots, it shows you know your stuff. Always well paced and balanced. One quick observation, I know you have asked how do we get teenagers involved, well maybe a return to the older concepts of Hornby and Meccano , a selection of locomotives that can be assembled by the customer from the factory components. This would link the hobby from the toy market through to the adult market by being educational and providing achievement for teenagers , not currently available by simply buying something from a shop. Just an idea , maybe you can suggest it as you have already developed great contacts and respect within the railway community. A truly fantastic achievement considering the short time your channel has been on KZbin. Once again well done, more of the same. 👍

Thank you. Martyn was reasonably frank. I am still wary of Hornby's variable quality control though. Iffy, sub-standard motors have been too common an occurrence in recent years.

Great interview. I personally think that Hornby needs to address quality control issues and their pricing as other manufacturers are starting to bring out better quality models at lower prices.

Very good interview. Your style got Martyn talking to - and engaging with - you. Your supplementary questions really opened up the session. He made several good points, including regarding TT: I think if I was starting out right now, I'd be very tempted to focus on TT. His explanation of the failure of Play Trains was honest and insightful. His answer to your time-to-market question was interesting, as was the way he dealt with the Black 5 question head on. The ease of servicing point was well explored, and his answer was very good, acknowledging how super detailed models do pose issues for many modellers, but also the way in which design innovations are helping. Listening to him gave me hope for the future of Hornby. Glad my suggested questions came in handy! Please keep up the most excellent work.

Nice interview Dawn, I feel that when it comes to model railways, it's not just the cost of models from the likes of Hornby, and sad to say Lima, that was cheaper then Hornby, and has been owened Hornby, for many years now but it also the leading suppliers of scenics, that put the cost of building a model railway but yes the detail in trains put the cost up and it's all down to making a profit.

Dawn, thanks for the excellent interview. Martyn is much easier to listen to than SK, and his straightforward answers has improved my opinion of Hornby as a manufacturer. The only let down was comments on the newly tooled Black 5. Those oversize lamps and the large gap created with the loco to tender coupling might be OK for a majority of modellers, but if the locos are to be more detailed finescale versions then they need to be closer to the prototype. Taking the lamps off or changing the connector will potentially spoil an otherwise great model. I have written to Hornby marketing but no reply as yet.

Agree on his communication skills and a welcome change from SK - no more "when I was at Hornby in the 60s, we used to do blah blah blah"

On the toy question, i recall when i was young 5,6,7 years old, i wanted toys that were realistic-not big bright and colourful-eg. Playtrains. So i think people under estimate what children want, when it comes to play with real world toys. If playtrains was a train set series a step below Hornby Railroad, that would have been awesome if i were a kid.

Excellent interview and some interesting answers, but why is it, that some retailers can offer up to 50% discount on models that are not selling. They are businesses and they need to make a profit. This tells me that more models would be sold at a lower price. Which is the best, to sell 100 models at £200 or 1000 at £150? Martin. (Thailand) Hornby is not sold in Thailand.
