Hornby TT120 finally available at retailers. Some thoughts on this and TT120 9 months later

I'm with you on a Smokey Joe. I have both the Scotsman and the Eastern sets but there's just something about a Smokey Joe.

Hi Steve. I was always sure that eventually, Hornby would sell through retailers (which I applaud). I haven't checked prices too much but at least one retailer was selling at Horby's RRP, so members of the TT:120 Club would be getting a 15% discount through the club. Why would buyers "give up" this discount? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Simon was head of product development and I'm not sure if it was he that determined the RRP. The whole model train world has become very expensive, and not just in the UK, Pre-owned (I sound like a car salesman) models *can* be as good as new, so bargains are to be had. You mentioned that you may buy The Scotsman train set; why wouldn't you use the discount?

I used to like going to The Model Centre, they used to have a store near me at Merry Hill Shopping Centre when I was a teenager, but sadly it went ages ago. I used to go there with my birthday or xmas money to see what I could buy for my model railway. I like the look of the TT 120, but because it's the first year of launching the range isn't that big maybe when they get some new starter sets which aren't the A4 or Flying Scotsman then I may make a move.

I haven’t opened my set as I was apprehensive about what to do with it once I had. I will get around to maybe making a video on it but I’m sure many already have given how long it’s been out. I doubt my opinion would be needed now 🤣🤣

I just pre-order ed the tt120 EastEnder myself from TMC models it was £174 much better than £195

The competition you talk about is only the margin the retailers have, which we know inflates the price, and horny will be in the same boat of not being able to offer the deals themselves. So do we believe they aren't selling well? I haven't got the impression they have started the real promotion for TT yet ?!?

Hornby as a large business gets it wrong yet again, no wonder they are In the wilderness, May sink or swim, there business practice’s are something to be desired, hence now had to bite the bullet and get more retailers trying to play catch up with the TT products, you only have to look at the Key Magazine with same said title of Hornby, although not what’s so ever linked to them, the back listings of Hornby Retailers in the UK, just staggering little, I wouldn’t want to be a share holder. Needs a dam good shake up which has been missing for years.
