Im giving TT a go. So far I'm super-impressed with the Hornby stuff I have. Had some Farish N Gauge left from my son's Christmas present of about 15 years ago, but having got a few bits of TT, the N is off to eBay. TT is going to be a long haul to get variety, especially now SK has left Hornby (been fired?), but the size is absolutely delicious. Hopefully Peco will get some rolling stock going soon.

I saw on Pecos website they are bringing a wagon out, similar to Hornbys one at the moment.. a variation of models will come with time im sure 👍

My initial thoughts are to do an inglenook puzzle but things could change a bit 🤣, i am set on a small shelf type thing. I just want to be able to shunt a few things about really, maybe there will be a little station platform for visits from other locos 🤔🤣, i think the art really is strictly "no hand of god" allowed with whatever i do end up doing though and i need to use six points now 🤣

I would say aswell the worm gear and motor are also shared from yhe N gauge world, looks like an N20 motor and a 0.3Mod brass worm like the older poole locos from Graham Farish used to have, Take care Rich

I guess the knowledge of N resources helps keep costs reasonable- I wonder where TT will go - I like the TT models by Piko and Roco but realistically their market is Eastern Europe. @@digitalcareline from what ive heard (might be wrong here) the Hornby line of things in TT will only be available directly from Hornby themselves which sucks for Suppliers.. that being said youve got the likes of Peco that are pumping there good quality items out in TT, they've announce a wagon too.... I havent heard any news of other Manufacturers actually planning to make any British outline locos other than Hornby! I think whats needed is announcements from other manufacturers really to get the ball properly rolling.... Im sticking with N Gauge personally but i just wanted to get a Class 08 before they sold out and have a play with it... Mind you its easy to catch the bug and one thing leads to another! 😂

​@@ThisWayWorksTWW The Hornby is off limits to us. This is not as bad as it sounds as it removes the pressure from dealers to fund a completely new scale when other scales have enormous ranges. The UK TT original group was Gaugemaster, Peco and Heljan. (We think that Hornby may have been in on the talks as it was odd for Peco and Heljan to take on a risky new venture on their own) Gaugemaster import ranges that included TT models and scenics. In theory TT would be a mutually supporting block. When Hornby announced it would be direct sales only it left Heljan exposed as they would need dealers to sell their range. Hornby used the potential dealer margin to fund club discounts... Peco export TT to Germany through Weinert so they have another potential outlet for the track. It's like a soap opera

I have no regrets getting the Class 08 though, it fits exactly what im after in this case for the plans i have👍 i shall have to come and bug you at somepoint 😉

ive not had a train set since i was a kid (too long ago) thinking of getting back into it with TT, I dont have much space for a 00 track but i think i can do TT

The choice with locos and rolling stock for TT120 is growing as Hornby bring more out. I actually dont have the space myself for a full TT layout so instead i shall do a shelf layout, then when i want to run locos i can loop the shelf on a table or something to continuously run locos around. Its all peaches and pears really, TT is a lovely size with little choice but it ticks the box for a nit too small and not to big scale 👍

Nice comparison between the N and TT versions. The dead section on the points did look quite long for the scale, how does that compare to OO ? Just being picky, its a class "Oh Eight", not just "Eight". There were hundreds of them around back in the 70s and 80s, real good work horses.

I dont have an 08 in 00 gauge unfortunately but this TT120 is closer to N gauge than 00 gauge on appearance i would say, Peco do some better points so you would net yourself better running vs Hornby points, nonetheless ive fitted a stay alive to the TT 08 so even insulfrog points are effortless for it 👍

I am still on the fence myself TBH as the range is still limited however im sure that will change over time, i am still set very much with my N gauge but the build quality though is pretty good on the TT gauge 08, it does run smoothly. I managed to get my Class 08 for £100 so thats what you could expect with your TT120 membership discount.. i have wanted to make a small shunting layout for some while and also i suspect the Class 08 will probably sell out soon with their popularity so kinda jumped when i have to buy what i have, my intentions for it suite what it is... I love they are bringing out a TT gauge HST and others like the Class 50 etc but layout wise i couldn't do that, i struggle with space with my N gauge allready 🤣

With regards to the HM7000 its a nope from me and actually i have a Hornby TTS 08 chip so id like to make use of that in this Class 08, i want to stay with my traditional DCC decoders as thats what everything else is i have 👍

I love TT. Have already bought a fair few items including two sets and this 08, plus rolling stock. TBH, would prefer 3mm/ft rather than 2.54mm but that was unlikely to happen, given the non true scale nature of the old Triang stuff, and huge risk in going with a non mainstream established track size if making both stock and track 1/101.6. Hoping to see lots more releases soon, and for Hornby to sort z few quality issues.

Its a lovely scale to model with, i actually took my vent van to my local modelshop to show them the size and they had the Triang vent van and the size difference is quite honestly, yep, completely different. I am quite enthusiastic to see what stock and locos come to fruition over the next few years myself. Im predominantly N gauge for room size limitations however its a charming scale and ive allready gone down the avenue of printing TT gauge items so i suspect there will be a vast aray of choices for us all very soon 👍 Yes to be honest id expect Hornby to have some issues venturing into a new scale, my Class 08 is still going strong but with time like most things after years of use it will be interesting to see which TT gauge model by Hornby is the bullet proof design mechanically, time will tell 👍

I'm a huge fan of tt, having a fair swag of the German stuff, and to keep things honest have a fair swag of Japanese N. I'm hooked on TT, have been for decades, but I like a whole lot of sizes hence the N and others. Couple of things: I was going to score some of Hornbys offerings however in between times of my preorder they'd come to some arrangement with a local dealer (I'm in Aus) so I can't order direct from Hornby anymore, and the local dealer price is just under double what I could've got it for. But that's just a gripe... On the technical front: I just don't get the isolated frog thing. Zeuke and berliner from the fifties used live frogs, with no special fishplates or wiring, just intelligent placement of rail breaks, and modern Tomix continue a wheel contact through the flangeway of the frog, thereby providing continuous electrical contact. One thing I could say is there always seems to be this reflection of tt being too limited in rolling stock and locomotives. It's funny as that appears based on the idea to have a vast motive power fleet. You have a look at for example one of the most influential modellers today; Lance Mindheim with his vast motive power fleet of maybe one or two locomotives and sometimes 3 turnouts. Your choice of an 08 and a choice amount of stock can provide an enormously satisfying experience. It's worth giving Lance Mindheim a KZbin search, although US focused his designs and philosophies can be far reaching, and very rewarding.

With regards to TT i am more then happy with my 08 and a few wagons. Just shunting them about ticks the box for me on a little shelf layout type thing. I opted for the insulfrog points as they are the cheapest option and i knew i was going to be installing a stay alive into the loco👍, there are electro frog points available but i didnt get those, cheers Rich

i am in the same boat and that boat is called the 'Hornby's Australian Supplier is crap!'. The rumor going around from those in the know is that the last order the supplier put in to Hornby was 12 months ago (at the time of writing) and that we can expect to be 15-18 months behind the UK releases going forwards because of it. Others are saying to order through Rails of Sheffield because even with shipping costs it is supposedly cheaper than dealing with the supplier's BS

Yeah still more variety, i know Hornby is going to be bringing lots of TT stuff out, maybe other manufacturers will chime in aswell with time, N gauge is my preferred gauge also, im somewhat committed 😂

Im quite curious too, i didnt want to miss out on the opportunity to own a Class 08 and i have a Sound chip allready that needed a home so it made sense for me to dip my toe into TT this way so to speak. I will continue to be a hardcore N gauger as i am limited by space and collection wise fully committed 😂, yes she shall get some weathering soon enough 👍

To be fair to Hornby the mechanism and how well it works is quite good. It is hard to grasp the size watching videos and really i think when everyone says TT gauge my self included think of the Triang versions, however those are much larger. It will be interesting to see what happens with time, im not entirely sure why the bigger older Triang faded away before now to be honest, i guess the likes of 00 gauge and N gauge took peoples fancy instead 🤷, Thanks for watching the video, hopefully minus the noise it gives an idea of how big vs N gauge these things are 👍

Absolutely agree, i like it alot but theres still so much charm with N gauge, i couldn't get anything bigger in TT gauge because i allready struggle fitting my N gauge ideas on a layout, like others i have limited space to play with👍
