Hornby TTS Class 50, Installation, Speaker Upgrade, Settings, And Running

I have finally got my hands on the new TTS class 50 and I'm not disappointed! Its a great budget sound decoder. In the video I show you how to fit it and over come any potential problems as well as upgrading the speaker and changing some settings to get smooth slow speed running. The first batch of 50s (two models I believe) had back to front PCBs. Hornby did an exchange program which only ended a couple of years ago. The affected locos have rubber tyres on (which were removed after the first batch).

Just a quick note Richard, these speakers (which I bought off you on eBay) are only suitable for refurbished class 50s. I found out the hard way! It was ok, but I had to remove the fan to put it at the other end.

I have a Hornby class 66 TTS. TTS fitted professionally with upgraded speaker. Sound off. It’s runs fine. Sound on all sounds work when stationary. But as soon as it moves off, it stops and starts around the layout of its on accord, the sound restarting each time. It’s very frustrating!! Any ideas why 🤷‍♂️ everything else on layout runs fine

Yeah, I guess it’s probably a 4 ohm speaker rather than the 8 that’s needed. If that’s the case the damage might already be done, but you could try swapping it back to 8 ohms and see if it cures it. It might not be that but that’s a likely cause

@@roadsandrails that’s great. I’ll look into that and suggest it to where I got it from. When you say the damage may already be done…..?? As in the TTS chip may be damaged?? I very much appreciate the advice

@@Mapplewell_Park Yeah maybe, if you use them with 4 ohm speakers it can burn out the amp on the decoder, the first sign of that is usually the sound cutting out

Great Video. Could you do a video how to install the new Class 08 TTS decoder into the Hornby model please? I'm really struggling!! I have your small i phone speaker soldered onto the sound chip. Physically don't have the room (or so I think) and worried about busting the model. Any help much appreciated and keep up the good work. Great video thanks.

Dave NGauge Hi, I’ve just fit one into a Hornby class 08. I used a sugarcube speaker and seated it in the gap, between nose grill and chassis. Having spoken with Richard. Make sure the baffle is well sealed. Regards, Steve.

Guys, give your fantastic range of decoder sounds for all manor and variety of diesel loco's - What would you say are your best loco sound/speaker upgrades have been?
