Horowitz in Toronto - 1979 (Nov. 4) live concert

I had the great pleasure to hear VH in this same Clementi sonata in one of his unforgettable appearances in the San Francisco bay area. As with most of his great interpretations, many details have been ever-so-slightly modified from one performance to the next. It was this very spontaneity that made each concert such an exciting event (critics be damned!) and was testament to Volodya's status as perhaps the last living representative of 19th Century performance practice, in which minute -- and sometimes not-so-minute -- variances from one performance to another were the norm. Testament to his genius! Thanks for posting.

Fabulous playing by 75 years old Horowitz. First of all I am wonderfully surprised by the performance of the Rachmaninov sonata. Very close to the November/December 1968 performances and very different from the 1980 RCA performance.
