I had a friend whose ancestors hid Charlie from the king's troops when he was fleeing to Skye. They covered him in the hay. Since then, their family motto has been Over! Fork Over! From the time they forked the hay over Charlie to hide him.

Perhaps Bonnie Charlies greatest tribute was musical. "Will Ye Nae Come Back Again" has to be one of the loveliest and most haunting songs I ever heard.

Charles is perhaps best known as the instigator of the unsuccessful Jacobite uprising of 1745, in which he led an insurrection to restore his family to the throne of the Kingdom of Great Britain, which ended in defeat at the Battle of Culloden that effectively ended the Jacobite cause.

Yep; both the French and British had warrants for his arrest. He had to hire his own ship, and his father in law basically shipped him off under the king's nose. He was only 19. He had a lot of fervor for the American cause, having been taught liberal ideals in school, and was a Mason like most of the founding fathers

Charles Edward Louis John Casimir Sylvester Severino Maria Stuart (31 December 1720 - 31 January 1788), commonly known in Britain during his lifetime as The Young Pretender, and often referred to in retrospective accounts as Bonnie Prince Charlie, was the second Jacobite pretender to the thrones of England, Scotland, and Ireland. This claim was as the eldest son of James Francis Edward Stuart, himself the son of James II of England.

Scottish ancestry. And in that same poem, it supposedly said that he led an army to London, he talked to the french king in person, and it includes some episodes of doubtful accuracy before Wallace even enters history.

But Charles wasn't a Scot- (Edit) I worded this comment badly, the Stuart dynasty originated in Scotland and Charles had Scottish and English blood but he certainly would not have sounded like a Scot considering he grew up in exile in Italy.

Charles's flight from Scotland after the uprising has rendered him a romantic figure of heroic failure in some later representations. In 1759 he was involved in a French plan to invade Britain which was abandoned following British naval victories.

Do you know how little credible history was written of William Wallace? Mel Gibson's Braveheart had significant historical accuracy, as much as could be had, and still made it entertaining. It's not a documentary, but it's not 'full of shit' as you claim it to be.
@Sarah-fp9oc4 жыл бұрын
Brave Hearts a decent movie the best part was visiting Trim Castle, in Ireland and seeing where Mel Gibson was executed. Seems odd a Scottish historical film was filmed in Ireland. Lol 😆. Then the Scotti were Irish.
