They are the people the historical characters in this video seem to be representing. Stephen and Henry are obviously representing Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson respectively because Stephen is portrayed as beardless and playing his sword as if it were a guitar just as Bjorn did, and Henry is portrayed as bearded and playing the table as if it were a piano just like Benny. As for the two Matildas, it's probably safe to associate Stephen's wife Matilda with Anni-Frid Lyngstad because she is portrayed as a brunette just as Anni-Frid was(though she did dye her hair red often), and Henry's mother Matilda may very well be blonde because it'd help contrast between the two Matildas. Plus Henry's mother Empress Matilda's actress is blonde like Agnetha Faltskog.

yes it was the reason the civil war was restarted, a lot of the english nobles started to get annoyed at Matilda because she was ruling as a man would, they didn't want a woman telling them what to do. Steven's wife however was doing pretty much the same thing though which is what's so amusing about the whole thing. But since she was doing it on behalf of her husband then it's acceptable to let her act like a man.

Although there had been comparatively minor civil wars before the Anarchy and between the Anarchy and the Wars of the Roses (e.g. The Barons Wars), these two were the largest before the one in the 1600s, and several aspects of them do make their way into the books. Anarchy/the Dance: fought between cousins/siblings over the throne and taking place not that long after the establishment of the dynasty's rule. Robert's Rebellion/Wars of the Roses: A revolt against a weak and insane king by a relative of the throne, and which was aided by several major landowners. There are probably plenty of others, for example one could possibly compare The Mountain killing Elia's children to Richard III supposedly killing his nephews.

I read "When Christ and His Saints Slept" Sharon Kay Penman. All about Matilda and her fight for the throne. After reading this book and taking the author's artistic license into account, Stephen wasn't a bad man per se, he was just a bad king. I recently read Pillars of the Earth. Fantastic book: anyone into Middle Ages history should check it out. I am SO thankful I watched this video before reading it because the book is about regular people whose lives get shaken around by these political events in the background and this sketch made it so much easier to understand. But I had to double check because in Pillars, it's Maud and Matilda, not Matilda and Matilda. Also, I kept picturing Larry and Martha when their respective characters were mentioned. lol

Lauren Conrad Maud was the Anglo-Saxon version of her name, Matilda the Norman or Latinized version. Methinks the author wisely tried to avoid confusion between Matilda and Matilda by doing this. For the record, I've only seen the TV version of Pillars of the Earth, but in the first episode alone I saw some major historical inaccuracies, i.e. Matilda wasn't in England when her father died, which was part of why Stephen was able to grab the throne. Still a good story though.
