Both are acceptable. Either are attempts at spelling a non-English word, in English. A few years ago, when the fighting was happening in Libya, there were several front page stories in the paper, and each spelled Gaddafi differently. Some sounds don't really translate into English well.

Tsar Nicholas and Kaiser Wilhelm wrote letters to each other before the war where they addressed each other as "Nicky" and "Willy." George V, however, never corresponded with either Nicholas or Wilhelm. He felt so bad about not helping Nicholas II or Michael II from surviving the Russian Revolution, that he attempted to compensate by allowing his two sisters to escape to Britain. They both lived in exile until they died at the ages of ninety and ninety-five before the 1980's.
@mikeor- Жыл бұрын
Despite their alliance, Kaiser Wilhelm and Franz Joseph did not like each other that much. However, Kaiser Wilhelm was friends with Franz Ferdinand so that friendship might have led to him offering his support to Franz Joseph.

@@simonrooney2272 Thats so wrong. Willhelm didnt want the war, neither did he needed it. Willhelm only wanted to secure Germanys "place at the sun". After Serbia acepted the Austro-Hungarian ultimatum, to search themself for the murderer, Willhelm even wrote to Franz-Joseph that every reason for war was faiding away. After the WW broke out, they even made a postcard with him saying: "I did not want the war". That was apparently just propaganda, but Willhelm really had no reason to go to war.
@mikeor-2 ай бұрын
@@hellarion8759 If Wilhelm didn't want the war, then why did he give the blank check to Franz Joseph? He did not even like Franz Joseph a lot, despite being on friendly terms with Austria. The Kaiser knew that a world war was inevitable, even if he didn't want it. If it wasn't for the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, World War I still would have happened. If Frederick III had not died after ninety days, he might have ended the naval arms race, and if Russia didn't mobilize when Austria declared war, World War I might never have happened. No World War I means no World War II. No World War II means no Cold War, and no Cold War means no Soviet Union.

@strasbourgeois12 жыл бұрын
My great grandfather served in the famed French 8th Infantry Division. He was born on September 21, 1893 in Lille, an industrialized and highly developed area of France. He had a relatively normal life I supposed, as he was able to have a somewhat good education. I don’t know if he attended a university after, but I suppose not since he joined the army quite young. Anywho, when the war came around, he fought in the Belgian Ardennes and survived, despite it being a decisive German victory. He then fought in the First Battle of the Marne just a month after that. He caught an unidentified disease, likely kidney infection from a UTI. I say this because E. coli, the germ mainly responsible, was present almost everywhere around him in the disgusting mud. But he prevailed, and the battle resulted in an Entente victory. He then fought in the First Battle of Champagne, and was shot. He was probably 22 by then, and went back home. That’s all we know about his military life. He died at the age of 74, in July of 1967. We don’t know how, but he was a hero. He had a wife, two kids, (one being my grandmother, in the medical field). I love him so much. He is the best. Fought for our country and survived. He saw two world wars, a Cold War, the fall of the French Empire, and so much more. Proud to have his blood running in my veins. I aspire to be in the French Army just like him.
