She was even reported by eyewitnesses at the siege of Oreleans as staying with a dying English soldier and weeping for him. There are absolutely no accounts at all of Joan ever injuring anyone, and it was not even a matter of note for the judges at her trial.

I, as a Muslim, spent few hours today to watch documentaries about her life. I learned about her before in history lessons, but never studied her life and tried to understand what she stood for and what was her actual character. I always respect pious people, whether they are Muslims, Christians or Buddhists, does not matter. A pious person, a person who is true to his religion, dedicates his/her life for higher noble causes always inspires me. And what a woman she was! By the way, the way that she said she heard voices and she had visions are similar to Prophet Muhammd's first experience. Although we Muslims don't believe in sainthood, I believe her that she had a mission. May she rest in peace. May Allah (god) have mercy on her soul.

I noticed though according to the story as told in this video that Joan had threatened to have the Hussites killed for heresy. I think that is the moment when divine providence that was preserving her life left her. Notice also that prior no arrow could slay her but when pierced she would be healed by God. Not saying Joan was not a saintly woman because the threats she made became the conditions of her own trial and execution.. I most definitely think she was saintly. I just believe the words of Jesus "By the same standard of judgement you judge you yourself will be judged" are pure and true. I also think Joan at her capture and during her imprisonment had an awareness of the strange irony of her decision to threaten the Hussite's lives for heresy was now the judgement that was being done to her. I do think Joan humbly accepted her fate like the thief at the right hand of Christ who admitted to Jesus on the cross that he was not innocent, but Christ is innocent. I do because she worshipped Him in flames just like him. That in of itself is an immensely ecstatic picture to meditate on. At least for me. Being that close to God, Him letting you physically die a criminal's death like Him yet declaring Him holy. I think Joan was in the same place. At the right hand of Christ bound and facing the pain of death yet enamored by God. I've heard of saints being reported to appear to be in indescribable ecstasy while they dying. That it was not like they were suffering in excruciating pain but that they were suffering in excruciating bliss. I think that is how Joan left this earth. In rapturous ecstasy. Just my opinion of course. To be taken it with a grain of salt. Not all people are saints, but saints do also happen to make mistakes. Only God does not.

I truly give her props! If she wasn’t guided by god the tell me how a 19 year old girl who was 17 when she went to the French king and started could have done what she did. Especially in those days! No military training at all, nothing about tactics anything having to deal with work there and was able to win battles that she actually rode into in full armor with zero experience . probably never even held a sword before! Sadly, my gggggggg-grandfather Richard Beauchamp, 13th Earl of Warwick, served as superintendent of Joan's trial and possibly oversaw her execution. So my ancestor is the villain in this story, but at the same time, the thought that a person I share DNA with laid eyes on one of the greatest women in history is astonishing to me. Honestly, if the English hadn't done this horrible thing, would we even be talking about her now? The English made her a martyr, they made her a legend, it's the only silver lining I can find in the horrible thing my ancestor played such an integral part in.

Something remains from Joan of Arc: her ring. It has been bought in 2016 in an auction in England and then brought back in France with great pomp. Whether it's authentic or no is another story but ultimately it doesn't matter. From now on it's the Joan of Arc ring, it's a sacred relic and that's it. The English tried at the time to have the sale annuled, arguing that the ring was part of the historical heritage so ... Anyway it was obviously replied that there was nothing to be discussed and that the ring would stay at home now for ever. The market value of the ring is not the problem while its emotional value is infinite, Joan of Arc being the most sacred historical figure in French History. It's a very old story now and of course it might have been preserved in England but it's best off at home...

Jehanne la Pucelle was not a peasant woman. Her father, Jacque was the prévot of the entire region. Her mother , Romée Vouthon Ysabeau de Salm was from a Vosges small noble family ! The brother of Jacque, Nicolas'wife was a ''Dame de compagnie'' at the Court of Charles VII. No peasants here ! Jeanne la Pucelle was from the Barrois region and she left for ''France'' in February 1429. God is not in the story. Mainly, we have Michael the Archangel, St Catherine of Alexandria and Marguaret of Antioch. However, both St Catherine and Marguaret were removed from the Vatican Roman Catholic Calendar of Saints, in 1969, they never existed, they were part of the 15th century folklore.

Joan's status in the Church is as a "Virgin", not a "Martyr." She was examined by a group of women appointed by her enemies to declare her a virgin or not, the belief being that a witch had sexual commerce with the devil. Alas for her enemies, the examining women declared that she was physically intact and a virgin, and thus could not be a witch (close to a miracle in itself, considering all of the horseback riding astride she did). She was declared a heretic, but on what grounds is not clear; claiming visions is not heresy, and she had never denied any Church doctrine. Her trial was a farce and a disgrace and held by people whose minds were already made up. The decision was reversed by the Church and she was later canonized. Her feast day, May 30, is a major holiday in Orleans. My firstborn daughter's Confirmation name is Jeanne d'Arc.

The down votes are probably from people who actually KNOW something about history. Joan was almost undoubtedly schizophrenic, anorexic, and had a host of delusions that made her truly believe in what she was doing and saying. She was set up by the French leaders as a last resort because the largely working-class soldiers wanted to follow her as their mascot. She was then sold out by the very people she sought to "save" because she had become inconvenient. This video makes it sound as though she did, indeed, have some sort of divine guidance or assistance. When she was led to Charles, he decided to play "hide and seek" and placed his servant on the throne. Joan, who had no idea what the king looked like, instead of walking up to the throne with the adorned servant, stepped to the side and beckoned the King. 2) The King would later, as I recall, BETRAY Joan (probably out of good old fashioned jealousy) and his life would end most painfully and miserably (it's a really, really, really, bad idea to betray of Servant of the Lord, btw, I believe France has lost quite a few wars since then....?). If the English went back in time they wouldn’t even be able to understand their language around 400 years ago let alone 600 years ago. Why do people address this as if it is some recent conflict. Would you consider Napoleonic Wars or the Crimean War as recent? Because I feel like those are extremely old too, and they were in the 19th century.

Yes, sadly Jehan la Pucelle was forgotten by France, for nearly 500 years, becoming a ''saint'' in 1920 ! It is true there were a few books written from the last part of the 16th century to the early 18th, century, see about 50 of them, there were mostly unfavorable and objectionable ...saying it was a political scheme from Charles VII. Strangely, Yolande d'Anjou was rarely mentioned ?

@@RayB1656 Joan became forgotten for some time, not an unusual thing to happen. She became prominent again in the latter 1800s. The First World War brought a renewed sense of nationalism in France and also a national mourning for all of the men who died. Her canonization most indeed was inspired by these occurrences.

@@timducote5713 I agree with your comment. It is true that many remarkable Medieval' individuals were unremembered after a few centuries. Similar to Agnès Sorel, Charles VII' mistress, her major role during many years near Charles is mostly repressed or left out. Her on-going struggle to help a depressed Charles, was certainly significant. We could possibly say she carried on the extraordinary work of Jehanne la Pucelle. However, since Agnès Sorel was from the Court of René d'Anjou and certainly Yolande d'Anjou was probably also involved, Agnès provided certainly the ''best'' political guidance to Charles.... as they say in France, Charles VII, le Bien-Servi... After the '1870/71 war, there were political unrests and turmoil in France, mainly in Paris...the Communards with there Red Flag , is an example. A national ''hero'' , a '' saint'' was needed, as you mentioned, and the French Church requested from the Vatican the Sainthood process...around the year 1879.

Alright was a fan before but 70 foot jump to floor is brutal. I have jumped 100ft into water, and the sight alone at 70 into a safe jump is terrifying to some. You can see people jump, see it’s safe, and still scares grown men away from jumping - let the bodies hit the floor
