I wasn’t aware that this game released already. Guess I’m going to take a trip to Target tomorrow. Thanks for the info. I prefer the setting for the first game but I’m still willing to give this game a chance.

Would be very cool to get a narrative mystery game based around cryptids. Could have map/timeline puzzles based around sightings, puzzles based on if the evidence of a cryptid was real or forged, and a cast of eccentric characters.

Yeah I guess the closest we have is Mythos Tales. There is also Escape Tales: Children of Wyrmwoods..

International players can't even get their hands on this as Target wouldn't ship outside of the US, I bought the original one from Amazon, it was such a great game, looking forward to add this one to my collection, only found out it's Target exclusive. :(

It's so silly for them to be making games that are exclusive to one store. Fortunately such arrangements are time limited, so you'll be able to buy the game eventually. -jesse

I'm struggling to see if it is worth it to have both versions gameplay-wise but I'm having a harder time trying to convince myself NOT to buy this one.

Well it's the same game and 6 additional monsters. If you love Horrified and want more variety then get it to experience the new monsters. -jesse

You gotta admit that if you were born in The 60s or 70s you'll enjoy the original more. Most people born in the 80s and up probably haven't watched a black and white horror film and will enjoy American Monsters more.

I had heard when this game was being released that you could mix and match the monsters from both to play against, but it seems that you are saying that is not the case. Did I understand that correct, that they are not to be mixed?

You definitely won't be able to mix monsters from one box with the monsters or board from the other box; the monsters are tied to the specific map from their box.

it's a $30 game. expectations aren't that high for good value.

It's a fair point. Though you may have to decide would you rather have two mediocre games for $30/each, or one great game for $60. -jesse
