My father was on Carte Blanche in early 90's and he literally said this will become major issues. It was the episode about ANC stealing from the RDP housing funds and screwing over the private businesses (like my father's at the time) who were set to build RDP housing for the people. He was silenced for speaking out against the ANC (and for appearing on Carte Blanche, anonymously) it completely ruined his livelihood. He was blacklisted by the banks under ANC orders, which made it difficult for him to continue his business... he went under because he had to pay his workers out of his own pocket waiting for the ANC's funds as was promised at the, but that was the early days before people like all South Africans now know how corrupt the ANC would become and the funds were shared with cronies and not the people. These unbelievable stresses eventually got to my dad, which killed him. RIP dad 😢and F the ANC

Why should government find alternative accommodation for illegal occupants? Illegal occupation of one's property is itself a criminal offence. The law that protects illegal occupation should be done away with. Why should the state reward people for crime?

There is a disconnect between being middle class and being able to afford an acceptably appointed inner city dwelling, which is what we would like them to be, and being improverished and desperate.Tthe latter are easy targets for exploitation. If the authorities clamped down on building hijacking, we would still sit with people who need housing. Both problems must be addressed, to create an effective solution. Condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.
