Going rogue and going off that TBR. It's what makes reading fun. And all you had to do was shift forward and certain parties knew you were going for the pocket.

Yep. It was a mistake to start keeping them in my pocket. At least when I keep them on the table, I can deftly grab one without alerting her. 😜

Well now, that mention of cicadas led me to wonder if they were the same as katydids. So I spent a half hour reading about cicadas vs. katydids. They are not the same thing but they do belong to the same order. They both live on trees, but there are some physical differences. Vocally, cicadas are active during the day and their volume can reach 100 decibels and sound like a lawnmower, dirt bike or tractor. Katydids, on the other hand, are vocal during the night and sound higher pitched, chirpy and staccato. So now I know that the insects we heard at night on a family trip in Kentucky were indeed katydids. Thus endeth your natural history lesson for today. Oh, and Jack says he'd be happy to catch a cicada for Olive if she'd like it...

Olive might be satisfied with the shirt for now, but if you're not careful, she'll soon be demanding that you get branded and ear notched. 🐶 It's a cicada emergence year around here. Last round they were so loud it was downright oppressive. There was scarcely an unoccupied patch of bark left on some of the tree trunks. Guess that's utterly irrelevant to the cicada queen book; I just couldn't think of anything meaningful to contribute. 🤪 Sounds like a nice reading week. The ennui-troubled demon sounds especially entertaining. Have a good one!

She’s not that possessive …. Yet 😳 Woah.. that sounds pretty intense Swarms of cicadas played a big role in the book. I wonder if you should read it, or if it would be triggering for you 😜

🐕Sounds like you read one of King's "heart-breaking" sentimental "paeans to youth," in the vein that he apparently still thinks will turn into his "American classics" someday. All it has ever turned into was "Misery," in which he blames the fans who made him rich and successful for the fact that he cannot write a non-horror book worth a damn! I don't even remember "Night Surf" at all, but it did sound like the plot of "The Stand," King's bloated post-apocalypse novel. Stick to "Pet Semetery" and "Salem's Lot" and a couple other early King horrors, as in before "It." There are some good stories in "Night Shift" too but you have to flip around in it for them. Not that all of this is so wonderful, but King aged even worse in my opinion!
@BookBlather3 ай бұрын
I’m beginning to get the feeling you didn’t like Misery 😜. Salem’s Lot and Pet Semetary are at the top of my list, though I also want to try Dark Tower and Fairy Tale, which seem up my alley.
@JohnSeney3 ай бұрын
@@BookBlather Dark Tower and such with the "Gunslinger" character and so on I never actually read! Yeah, "Misery" is miserable 😸😁 There is no more evidence of an author's contempt for his huge audience that made him successful than "Misery." King has never even denied this! He has made comments about the book but to my knowledge never said "No, I love my fans, that was not the message I was trying to send at all." I recommend reading it for that very odd and negative reason! 😁😸👍
