"Head Full of Ghosts"...highly recommend! Also, "Horror Movie" is very meta. It challenges the reader, almost asking us, "Why did you choose to read this book?" A slow burn and definitely there will be some people frustrated by the ending...but I loved it! Great review1

I was initially a little irked by the ending - but after I thought about it a couple days AND when I got the print version in my hands and reread it, I actually ended up loving it. Head Full of Ghosts is at the top of my list!

You should listen to the audiobook too. The part where the script is included is done with a full cast like a "table reading". I think that's what they call it where the cast reads the script together. It was pretty amazing

I heard about that! Sadly, it wasn't published yet and I only had the ARC, but I'll definitely listen to it on my reread!

I just finished the audiobook, it feels like it was meant to be listened to rather than read. The table reading stuff including how they’d mess up and correct each other and laugh wasn’t in the text of the book. Def worth a listen if you enjoyed the book.

@@suvachi I just started listening to this and it makes me wonder how this translated while reading 😂. Anyways, I was not real impressed with Head full of ghosts but I am giving this a chance. So this will either have me continue to read his material or not. Without spoiling I figured out where this is heading and it is quite original.❤

I highly recommend his book A Head Full Of Ghosts. It's my favorite, followed by The Pallbearers Club.

Im looking forward to checking this out. B&N has a edition fully annotated by the author that I really want to get
@TheNerdyNarrative4 ай бұрын
Wait, WHAT?!!! I was looking at the edition with the red end pages, but I think the annotated one would be more interesting to get!

My husband stopped at the B&N by his work and got the last annotated one they had in stock! He send me a picture of the inside cover flap had a small bend in it because he figured I wouldn't want it, but told him to snatch that puppy UP, lol. I can unbend it, :P

Great review. For some reason, I’m always hesitant to try new horror writers. Paul Tremblay is one I’ve been eyeballing for a bit. Maybe I’ll give Horror Story a try.

That's why I try to either get hold of ARCs or from the library - just in case they don't work for me. Actually, I do this with all genre authors, lol. I sent my husband out for a physical copy of this one since he's right by a B&N - this one needs to be in my library. :D

I listened to this on Everand and it was such a great experience. I highly recommend if you can listen to it, do so. Such an immersive experience

I'll have to check out the audiobook for sure. I only got hold of the digital copy to read ahead of publication, but I did grab a physical copy on release day!

I've not read everything by him but I've read most of his stuff. A HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS is my favorite. HORROR MOVIE might be my second favorite. THE CABIN AT THE END OF THE WORLD is good but I (unpopular opinion, I know) like THE PALLBEARERS CLUB better. GROWING THINGS is a solid short story collection. THE BEAST YOU ARE is less than a mixed bag when it comes to short stories. I have not read SURVIVOR SONG or DISAPPEARANCE AT DEVIL'S ROCK yet.
