For myself,the original Blair witch project(and everything surrounding it)was brilliant. The movie itself is the only movie I've ever seen that truly scared me. It's one of the greatest horror movies ever made. Everything after it was utter crap. Book of shadows tried to do something different,but failed. And 2016's Blair witch had a few cool ideas but it just felt like a slick,loud,horrible remake of the original. It's was like,80% jump scares.
@johnbowles53992 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. The original Blair Witch Project is one of my favourite horror films, and is genuinely terrifying in my opinion. The 2016 'sequel' manages to somehow completely miss the point about what made the original so genuinely atmospheric and instead serves us up a total shitshow comprised of jump scares, zero tension, zero atmosphere and completely unlikeable characters.

I think Family Guy summed up the original Blair Witch best. Nothings happening, nothings happening, something about a map, nothings happening, it's over. Just a boring movie with annoying "characters"

I always felt time was involved in the first movie. I mean they walk and they walk and don't seem to get anywhere and I seem to recall reading in some of the side material that the material that made up the movie were found in a backpack, buried under the foundations of the burned down Parr cabin and looked like it had been there for decades. So, I think they went back in time, were killed in the Parr cabin before it was burned down and why no trace was ever found but their footage which was decades old.

Part 2 was trashhhh but it had a couple good parts. 1. When they are walking in circles and run into the couple they told to leave and for them it’s been one day, but it’s been days for the couple. 2 when she snaps the sticks and snaps the back of the girl since her hair was in the symbol.

The Blair witch project was one of the scariest movie ever. Just the idea of walking in one direction for a day and finding yourself in same place you started is terrifying to me. Blair witch is far less scary to me because the acting and characters were far less believable I couldn’t get hooked

I don't really understand why anyone would think Heather was Bitchy or Annoying. Everything she does in the film is entirely believeable or justified. She films everything because at first she's making the documentary (and is borederline obsessed with that goal) and then as it goes on, she continues because it's one of the few things she has any control over anymore. Something that i thought was made pretty obvious (she pretty much says it herself verbatim). Similarly, all the scenes where she tries to maintain composure and insists that they aren't lost aren't at all unbelievable. For starters, she's more than likely trying to also convince herself they aren't lost, and to admit it to the others would also mean admitting it to herself and cause a loss of hope. But also, if you've ever been tasked with leading other people through a place they're unfamiliar with, theres a certain sense of responsibility you feel to keep them confident and calm. Even if you aren't 100% sure you know where you're going, you also don't want to flat out state that.

The Blair Witch Project is one of my all-time favorite films. Even the trailer creeps me out. I first saw it on home video back in the 90s, and even though I was a young dumb 12-year-old, I knew the film was not real. Even knowing I was uncomfortable, anxious, and scared during the movie because it felt realistic and forced my tiny brain to fill in what was not shown. Not knowing or seeing is scarier than a thousand jump scares.
@ClarenceDass Жыл бұрын
I absolutely love The Blair Witch Project. I watched it do many times in the cinema back in the day. The realism and how believable it all was because it was so low key. I honestly can not stand a horror movie/ Found footage fan who can't appreciate that. The only thing I liked about this sequel is the bit where they crush one of the wooden effigy figures and immediately one of the girls get snapped in half. That was creepy and cool. The rest of it was over done. A recent found footage film that I really liked is "Horror in the high desert." I think that film really tapped into the bits that made the original Blair Witch so good.

Coming from a hunting family and then finding random places in the deer lease that had..weird vibes to say the least, I'm suprised how bad they dropped the ball on something as simple as "walking around with nothing but trees around you mostly, especially at sundown, can be really creepy"

The Blair Witch Project was mind blowing and affected me in a way I haven't been by a movie since. The desperation is so intense. I agree with your comments on Blair Witch, as it pales in comparison, but is still did enjoy it. I particularly like the idea/theory that the monster is Heather from the first film. Still felt a bit unnecessary, but it had some good moments. Great video.

I was so excited for the sequel - I saw the original in the late 2000s but didn’t have internet to check if the movie was real or not. Even after that it’s what you’re imagining that scares you, along with the thought of being trapped in those woods. I caught an advanced screening for the 2016 film and it was so disappointing. It was the first time I’d seen a horror movie that had so many annoying jump scares.

The og Blair witch will always be the best. The scene where they run out of the tent into the woods and they see something over to the side and when she yells what the f is that apparently it was the director in a somewhat windigo esque costume that they didn't know about so that was genuine screams of terror from her.

I always thought it would have been interesting if they had it set in the ‘real’ world where people now know that the first film was fictional. A group heads out to the ‘real’ location and witchy stuff starts to happen but they have the background knowledge that the movie was not real. That way it would maintain that sense of realism and follow the characters having to come to terms with the insane idea that the Blair witch is actually real… or something else is out there.
@snail-on-toad Жыл бұрын
“Oh there’s stick figures hanging from the trees? Obviously that’s just from other fans of the movie or leftover props” “oh there’s someone shaking our tent? Its probably someone pranking us, since so many people come here to camp now” so many things that we could pass off as non-supernatural. But how many of these things can we explain away until it starts to set in that something supernatural really is out here?

Yeah, The Blair Witch Project should've stayed as just the one film, to be honest. Blair Witch 2 went the standalone route, and TBF, had a great idea to build on the first's paranoia-inducing fear (have the events in the film be psychological and make us question what's real and not), but Artisan Executives did a pretty good job of ballsing everything up in the released version, even if there's a fan edit out there restoring the director's intent. Wingard's Blair Witch on the other hand, was doomed to be viewed as inferior due to its very concept of being a direct sequel, even if it had good ideas in it. Some horror films aren't meant to be franchises. Simple as.

There's a theme to these unnecessary horror sequels, reboots and the vanishingly rare *new IPs* - and I don't need to explain it because the chances are that everyone who might read this will already know what I'm talking about, and have their own way of expressing it. But none the less I like to hear how others articulate it, so it makes a video like this enjoyable to watch - even though Blair Witch looks like a lesson from "found-footage horror cliches 101".

While I'm not a fan of Blair Witch 2, I'd be curious to see Joe Berlinger's original cut. SPOILER ALERT: The multiple murder subplot was added to spice things up (guess the studio execs found Berlinger's cut too boring) and is never even referred to in the final police interrogation scene where the surviving characters are shown murdering store employees and friends on camera. You'd have to rewatch BW2 and try to see where the scenes from the reshoots are, then try to imagine them being gone. I think the Berlinger cut could have a been a pretty solid and subtle slow-burn. It's a shame we got what we got.

The original Blair Witch is a masterpiece in my opinion. Sequel is my guilty pleasure. It’s cringy and it’s cheesy (reflecting the era it was made in) and it’s just a regular horror movie. But I liked the lore extension. The third movie …. Uuughhh no. I just don’t like it. I don’t like that they showed the witch I don’t like it’s design I don’t like that it looks somewhat like an alien?? And I don’t like light scene. For some reasons. I would’ve liked it more if girl at the end survived. It would’ve made this movie at least have unique ending. Imagine her getting out of the cabin and then the woods but then witch would plant some dead bodies into her car or hotel room or changing her cameras recording making it seem like last girl did all that. And this way tying it up with BW2 movie?? I think it’s maybe a bit much, but I think something along those lines would’ve been better then “welp she just saw guy dying after turning around so right after that she decided to turn around”. But I really liked how she decided to use camera as a mirror. Was she cooler character and survived that would’ve been finale for the ages! IMHO.

That wasn't canon, since it took place outside of the original's universe, that is, in Book of Shadows, Project was in fact just a movie, and we're supposed to believe that the characters were deluded and hallucinating rather than anything supernatural going on. It was made by an entirely different director and the makers of the original weren't at all involved.

When I saw TBWP I was under the assumption that this movie was REAL. After I saw it I found out it was made up and that really knocked it down several pegs in my book. I thought the sequel (the 2nd movie) was pretty good. The sequel regurgitated all that exposition because 17 YEARS had passed. There was quite likely a good portion of the potential audience that had not been exposed to the material. Haven't seen any of it but I think it was fair to go over the basic premise again.

Hey I will never watch cannibal holocaust. I heard there was like 7 animal death scenes with one involving a sea turtle getting tortured and decapitated apparently being the worst. Way too much deaths, with movies like friday the 13th and apocalypse now there is only one real animal getting slaughtered which is still really bad but its easy to miss it. Also in the topic of Blair witch, original works because of its subtlety (adding a more mysterious element to the movie on whether the blair witch really existed) and the feel of it (low budget feel adds to the realism to the plot since its about filming a highly low budget documentary). Blair witch 2016 throws all of that out of the window and turns into a generic horror movie.
