Another thing to consider is the vet and farrier. If you have full care, does it include normal vet and farrier visits? Do you need to schedule your own? If the board is cheap, make sure you understand EVERYTHING that's included. Some barns charge for every little thing. Hold your horse for the vet? That's $5. Put a blanket on your horse? That's $5. One option she didn't mention is renting a field. It's what I do. I'm responsible for every aspect of my horses' care. I feed, put out hay, clean up manure, mow, etc. Since I know how to run the tractor, I'll even fix the fence if a post gets broken, either due to horses or just rots. With where I am, she gives me a lot of leeway and has made many comments on how nice my field looks. I gathered up a lot of longer, broken 4x4 fence posts and sectioned my field off for rotation grazing and made a round pen. I added some pieces of plywood to the front of the run in and put in a couple of gates so that there's more protection from the elements and I can make the inside into stalls for feeding purposes. I also have a good relationship with the owner so that if I go away, am sick or whatever, she'll feed for me. Of course, I'll also feed for her, put out hay, etc, so it works out for both of us.

I’m considering taking over my family boarding facility - we can hold 30 horses! Great trails too. This was helpful

For years I boarded in a self care facility. They did NOTHING for the horses except open stalls for turn out and call you if there was an emergency. After a bit I got to know the other boarders well enough to have them make up morning feed and I fed almost every horse in the barn when I got there to feed mine so they could all be turned out at a reasonable hour. I will NEVER board full care. Every time I have tried it has ended badly. One facility catered to young riders and a few of them tormented my horse because they didn't think i'd find out, then denied it when asked about what they had done. I now have my own property where I can keep a horse or two. My last boarding experience ended in tragedy because the property owner lied from the start. Very sad. No more boarding out for me. Great video though. Tons of good information.

Thats awful. I cant even imagine what it would be like. I'm glad that my barn has plenty of people who are willing and happy to take care of the horses that aren't even theirs.

It’s kinda crazy for the price but i love my trainer there and she has helped me so much. I want to move to a barn but the barn is 2 minutes away from me, i love my trainer and i like the facility. Plus it has trails behind and it is full care board.

Mines 750 not counting lessons which are 160 (which isn’t bad). It’s a full care barn and the vet is almost always there bc he boards a horse there. The owner is also super awesome and she’ll care for your horse if you can’t. There’s one neglected horse there that is sick and she treats that horse like her child. She also schedules all appointments for you. I’m trying to convince my parents that it’s worth paying because we wouldn’t need to pay for food or bedding or anything like that but they don’t really understand

@@kays0_256 You are lucky. I really wish the board was a little less expensive so i might move barns in a little bit. Fox hill is good for me but the price is not. It might be worth it though so i am going to keep my mind open.

I couldn't find it but I would definitely call that a fancy stable! 5 arenas and 3 barns is huge! At least for my location. One barn one arena is about 600$ where I'm at for full time board, but pay for your own feed, shavings, etc. 12 hour turn out and 12 stables 6 pastures with a large 7th pasture in the back if an owner has multiple horses.

Wow think I've landed lucky- Don't have a horse yet but work at one and the rent is only £180 for DIY (Self care) But.. the part/full care board is like £580-850 But we have ALOT of facilities such as - Dressage arena, Show Jumping arena, horse walker, on site hacking and off road, XC course and a cafe! And we're a yard of 85 horses on a working farm!

Are draft horse rescues a thing? I've loved draft horses since I was a kid, but all the local rescues and sanctuaries are racer and brood mare focused. I don't have to ride them, just want to hang out and spoil them. Or is that not a thing???

I’m looking to build some stalls in my yard and start a DIY boarding on my property. Equestrian people keep trying to buy me out so now that my daughter wants a horse I figured we start by watching others care for their horse. Any suggestions?

If I self care board, can I use the cleaning equipment (rake, wheelbarrow, etc) and could I pay a little extra just to use the hay? I’m confused on how to get hay. I can easily get grain etc and I want to care for my pony by myself and provide everything for her without help. I just need hay and equipment for mucking out

Here there's some pasture board up to $800. Full board is generally only available with requirements like 1-2 lessons a week and a min. Number if shows per month. We don't have much "horse boarding" anymore.

@@hallhv01 Yeah. Update: the prices at my barn have since gone up, where the full board is now $1000. Honestly I hate how they try and forcibly "recruit" you- and make you pay extra for it. If you're gonna do that, might as well include it in the board instead of saying "So the board costs this, but you're gonna have to pay and extra $200 :D "

It's important for you to know something a lot of these people won't feed these horses or give them water half the time and they will say something about it and the responses come back move your horse move your horse what about the other horses that are there starving what about them who do you call something has to be done they shouldn't be able to get away with this this sucks!!!!

Typical! Boarding is dangerous. Not a good option anymore. People aren't making money off the business and do what they need to survive. I've heard and experienced my own situations, including top end stables.
@hallhv01
@hallhv01 2 жыл бұрын
Horse boarding is becoming a thing of the past. Most barns here have been sold and developed. We lost a ton of stables the past 5 years. People who can afford it are buying their own hobby farms as the only way to continue. Due to extreme high demand for boarding and limited barns and inflation and property tax increases post COVID real estate bubble and lack of immigrants who used to do the stable work, prices have gone though the roof and services took a dive. No water? No hay? Hazards? No drag for the arena? YES. Everywhere, even the high priced ones. This video makes me laugh. Good luck finding all these criteria. Pasture board here is up to $800 and I'm in the Midwest in a "low"cost of living area. And all the barns require a lesson and show program on top of board. So $1200-1500 is the going rate here if you want an indoor and outdoor arena. You're a slave to their schedule.
