These are my favorite types of videos. Watching you with Buddy, finding and solving the problem. Your years of experience are so valuable, and your willingness to share that experience and knowledge with us viewers is priceless. The bond and trust between you and Buddy is obvious. He knows you're the leader, and the consistency in the way you approach him and the problem is key to success. Buddy, Mr. T, Ransom, Smokey and Stewie, you're all good boys. Rick, your the best dad ever!

Awwww that was such a sweet results for Buddy he finally realized you were not trying to cause pain tho to help him Buddy won't forget that bcuz your his Daddy and your approach may have seemed harsh to Buddy at first tho in the long run he knew you were only trying to figure out what was causing him pain I walked thru many tall weeds or grass for these wild horse 5 of the herd came directly to me I had nothing to give as far as a treat tho it was like they knew I was there meaning no harm tho on my way back to the camper I was covered in ticks ya could hear me a screaming miles away my Mother had to get them all off me and I had to throw away my favorite pair of jeans tho all in all for those wild horses to approach me was well more than worth it around the age of 11 something about horse's always draws me closer and oddly they come to me just naturally I don't do a thing tho just stand and wait bingo here they come to touch and let them smell me me and they naturally groom my long hair too darn sweet Buddy feels alot better now even tho he was a little bit spooked about how you were only there to help him tho he was rewarded for a a great JOB you did well done Mr Rick

Poor Buddy just needed a hug to get that antiseptic on him lol. He was very patient as well when you were handling him despite the pain. You could practically see his body relax when you rubbed that cream in his ear.

Wow, you can really see his body relax once you applied the ointment! It was also a very cute image when you went under his head to apply it, effectively with Buddy’s head on your shoulder. He is just such a gorgeous blonde! No wonder Belle goes nuts for him 🤣

A friend of mine was actually knocked out by her horse when they knocked heads. She weighs about 100 pounds soaking wet which is about what the big old paint horses head weighs. She was feeding the horses some treats out in the pasture and he swung his big old head around really fast and knocked her out Stone cold. Her husband saw her laying out there in the pasture and thought she was dead. She had a concussion but she did recover.

I've never seen Buddy fight you like that. That had to be very irritating and painful. Glad you figured it out and solve the problem. And he didn't have to get the vet out there cause I probably would've just made it more traumatic.

When I interned with a vet, in my youth, the vet kept a jug of tick dip in the office. Every tick pulled from an animal was dropped in the jug, certain containment and death. Do not forget to check Ransom for a tick, since he was rubbing aggressively on that tree.

@kaylarson38432 жыл бұрын
You were able to fix the problem because you knew there was a problem. just looking at Buddy standing there he looks fine. This is a perfect example of why you should handle and check your animals. Buddy told you there was a problem by pulling away. I also think it was a perfect example of working with Buddy's tolerance and timeline, he didn't like it but eventually he allowed it because he trusted you, one method wasn't working so you tried another tactic that Buddy allowed.

Great job Rick, what did go through my mind was that you have had Buddy since he was a baby so he has a lot of trust in you even though he wouldn't let you inspect his ear for obvious reasons, I'm only assuming that it may have been a little more difficult to achieve the success that you had with a horse that has been passed around from owner to owner because they wouldn't have had the safety and trust from a secure herd, I would be interested to know your thoughts on this, thanks for another great video and as always very educational.

When I saw Ransom scratching his neck as hard as he was, the first thing I thought of was ticks. Because we have had a lot of rainfall lately and the ticks have exploded in number, my horses are scratching like crazy because of the nymphs. I spray every second day with permethrin spray. Kills them but they rub like Ransom to get them off.

Possums are fantastic at keeping tick populations in check. According to some studies, a possum will eat on average 5,500 ticks a season. I'd recommend not killing or relocating any possums you trap on your property as they play a huge role in keeping tick populations low. Hope this info helps. Great vid Rick 😁👍

Man, on a serious note the ticks this year are disgusting! Ive heard theyre really carrying some bad crap. 😟😫 Im not trying to tell you what to do, but I have found that food grade diatomaceous earth and cold pressed neem oil, eliminates all bugs so far. Cheap and inexpensive, safe and healthy... I actually use diatomaceous earth in my pet foods (to stave off worms, in case they ingest a flea or something outside). Again, just throwing out my go to for bugs/pests. Diatomaceous earth you can pick up at Walmart in the garden section or many other places (tractor supply etc. Less than 10 bucks for a bag(Harris brand) and Neem oil also for less than 15 (for the harris brand cold pressed). Praying the tick didnt give buddy anything yucky other than some irritation. Youre an awesome man Rick, I really appreciate you sharing your babies with us. I would absolutely LOVE to have horses, but I dont think I can give horses a good life bc I dont know anything about horses except what I've seen from you. Love your babies some for me. 😍😘🤗

Good job Rick. Ticks are so horrible. You can drown them in a jar once removed, with alcohol too. That way you contain them and you’re sure when they are dead. Those suckers (ticks) hang about in bushes and trees too. I think you said some of your neighbours had cows or maybe other critters like coyotes or wild rabbits introduced them. So good you know and monitor your horses several times a day so you can see what’s going on and can address any issues immediately 👍🐴💝
