You have made some big steps (no pun intended) with that yearling. So glad the owner is investing to provide a better outcome.

Great video series. I am currently training a horse where I have to take pressure away when he gets really nervous, wait, praise him for keeping it together, put the pressure on. This is the first time ever that I don’t follow your method. The horse otherwise explodes completely. With my approach he sees me as his rescuer and leader. I personally find it just astonishing that this horse needs such a different solution.

That method works for some horses just make sure he isn't learning that his poor behavior is making the scary thing go away.

Do have to repeat this the next day again or is he desensitized after that one time?

Just like everything else it takes constancy for something to be trained but each time is better.

Do you use warm water? Or cold

We are in the south, temps here are close to 100° so my cold water is pretty warm.

Release pressure, when he starts calming you didn't give any release that's why he went forward and then you turned the hose off that was releasing pressure at the wrong time. This is not the most efficient way of teaching a horse about water hose.

I talked about that in the video. This exercise in not just about the water hose it's about teaching a desired reaction for later in life. Efficiency now is not important, life lessons are what's important.
