Polo is about the only fashion brand that has a line for every tax bracket. You can be a working class person raising a family and can afford to by your children polo outfits for school and not break the bank. Then as your income bracket goes up there is a polo fashion line for you. If only our fashion designers could understand this concept.

I was always a TH Guy, but I was in Macy's waiting on my wife to hurry up, (which she never did, LoL) and I tried on a Polo Rugby, and it felt so bloody premium mate, I was like I have to have this. Bought it and I've been buying and wearing POLO ever since. No 70 pieces later, Im still trying to build my collection... But I went another route too, I not only purchased from Macy's that day, that weekend I called my guy at TD Ameritrade and I purchased some RL Stock. I took polo from Ralph Lauren and still buy it to this day. I remember polo being such a big thing. The street guys looked at as casual dressers early on. As kids from the projects always wanted what we couldn’t afford. The cars, clothes and electronics
@mikhailpetrov406 жыл бұрын
I loved this documentary, and I have been wearing Polo for over 20 years now, and I am a black man, but I think an argument has to be made here. Some may think it is pointless, others may think I have a point, but I just think it needs to be said. I think the title of this documentary is backwards. It should be called Polo Ralph Lauren's impact on Hip-Hop, and not how they have it stated. Using specific points from the doc itself, Hip-Hop didn't even start wearing PRL until a low level street gang was boosting Polo stores in order to acquire it. The Lo Lifes even said themselves, they were wearing polo because it made them feel rich, if they had $2 in their pocket it didn't matter because they looked fresh. So the simple fact that they just wanted to look like they weren't from the projects, doesn't have much to do with Hip-Hop. Next, is simply PRL's influence on specific black men in the rap game to start their own brands. Jay's Rocawear, Diddy's Sean John, even Damon John's Fubu, were all influenced by PRL, and were pretty much a carbon copy in terms of style. The collared golf shirt is a main stay in polo, and something those other three brands tried to emulate. Next, the Tommy Hilfiger perspective. In the doc they stated that PRL was not even trying to go after Hip-Hop, as to where Tommy's main campaign at one point was putting the biggest stars in the industry in his clothing. Hip-Hop directly impacted Tommy Hilfiger, but it did not directly impact PRL. Lastly, for that lady to say Polo was "lucky" that Hip-Hop chose them, that is an absolutely ignorant and asinine statement to make, and another reason that PRL impacted Hip-Hop. PRL didn't need Hip-Hop to be successful, as they were already successful and doing just fine. Even now, Polo is just fine, they make a lot of their revenue from sponsorships too, it isn't just clothes. For her to say Polo is lucky implies that they were a struggling brand that was uplifted by rappers suddenly wearing PRL clothing. That is ridiculous. It is a simple argument, and one that may not even mean too much, but I think it deserves some consideration. Horse Power: Polo Ralph Lauren's impact on Hip-Hop Culture.

I could go to the warehouse in Jersey and get whatever I wanted. One time, Tommy even wrote me a check-a nice sum of money, six figures or something like that, to say thank you. He actually just called me out of the blue and was like, “Hey, here you go, man. Thanks a lot.” I guess it was for doing everything that I did to help his brand." I have Polo shirts, sweaters, & jackets from the early 2000's that still look fresh ! Thou I wasnt from BK this BX head was rocking LO like I was misplaced in the wrong borough at times, lol.. My man wasnt lying about getting tested if you had on some LO, there were many of nights on the train where it got kind of grimmy and gritting where you had to get down for yours, lol.. Ralph went to FIT with my Aunt Norma, when he was a tie salesman. I was at work at Tommy at 601 W. 26th Street when Tommy was showing Kanye around, I was wearing an oversized TH logo fabric swatch sample doubled over into a bandana which inspired Kanye’s Jay Z Rihanna “Run this Town” Oversized Bandana look which boosted that whole movement. Kanye was wearing a Pony sweater with a Red Moncler Vest over it, and both Kanye and Tommy Hil gave me the big smile and nod

Not sure how this came up on my feed but thanks to the KZbin Gawds. I rocked a lot of RL back in college but also wore an equal amount of TH. I’m a lot more money savvy now so the Outlet legit be having heat. Kudos to Complex for this.

My brother Arch put me on to the Lo Life’s about 5-6 years ago, mayhem Lauren, thurstin howl (Gilligan’s Island) Rack Lo, and others But growing up in NYC and going to Central Park East in Harlem my buddies Amilcar “Circa 95” Killis from Bk and just several heads were definitely Polo’d out on the daily, I can’t front I wore my Nauticas heavy, but I grew into the understanding of how serious Ralph’s are and Americana and attribute my Brother Arch who was top sales at Macy’s herald square for starting of my Ralph collection with pieces he bought up and handed to me, Including the Holy Grail Suede Tassel Jacket worn in my profile picture right there, I have a bunch of Ralph my favorite include the Southwest pieces, and Mountain line, Orange RLX hoodies, Yellow Wax cottons and Flag stuff

Ralph Lauren clothes are cool, I like the traditional tailored clothes without logos from the brand. But in all honesty with the exception of purple label, the quality of the clothing is terrible. You want quality for you're money go Brioni, kiton, Armani, savile row, Canali, Pal Zileri , ermengildo Zegna, Bijan, and vintage brands made in the usa etc.
