Come along as I take my horse for a neckrope hack to the woods. It was in december, so it was quite cold, the weather had been awful and Cajou was in a real "winter mood" (you horse people know what I'm talking about). So at the beginning of the hack he was an absolute a-hole, yes, he even ran off. It was a pretty eventful hack overall, but we ended on a very positive note. I hope you enjoy this view from behind the ears :))

That's a thing non-horse-people will never understand... My mare is such a cutie and loves them cuddles. But sometimes all of a sudden she's like shizophrenic and shows her real face 👹 I always tell her "I'll take you to the slaughter today!" But I love her way to much 😂❤

@cajouandco Where i stable my horse, the instructor always tells the kids to whip the ponies if they misbehave, hope you don't mind me asking but why does your crop have a hole in the leather?
@cajouandco
@cajouandco Жыл бұрын
@@joe7965 that's how they were hung in the store😂 I don't really think it's got a purpose. Also whips shouldn't be used to punish horses. They should merely be used as a tool to make your aids clearer or while riding neckrope I hold mine up to the side to indicate where I want him to go. I think it's sad people still teach kids to just whip their horses if they don't do what we want them to do. My instructor used to tell me the same thing.

This horse looks like he is cared for so well. Besides when he ran off you can tell by his behavior, hooves, and the bond he has with the owner. If she is brave enough to use a neck rope on a hack you can tell the owner trusts him very much and so does the horse.

Thank you for taking me on such a beautiful ride on such a great pony. I don't ride anymore due to injuries. Ponies have always been my favorite. I bred and raised many a Haflinger that I rode and drove. You know, one of the things I loved the most was the ears, watching the ears, mainly seeing just the tips. This has been such an absolutely incredible way to experience riding again without actually riding. May God bless you with many more years of riding (with no injuries). I had a young draft mare fall flat on top of me due to her having snow on her feet and rushing the barn door as I opened it. She was upwards of 2000 pounds. Never, ever got hurt riding. Oh, how I miss my horses! I have a hole in my heart the size of the Grand Canyon. Have fun and stay safe and watch out for rowdy draft horses with snow on their feet. ❤😊

His periodic tests being an "asshole" are his tests to see what You do and I can see you read him well. It is interesting to watch how and when horses test their rider. Everyone one of them has a bag of tricks to try and how you navigate those tests are the fun learning how a horse thinks. Beautiful growing bond you both have. Happy trails to you both. I don't want to spoil your fun, so if you did this on your own enclosed land that would be one thing....and I have seen people ride horses over a course with no saddle OR bridle in enclosed areas so I know how well some of them listen in ideal circumstances, but being a flight animal, I'm honestly stumped for words at how dangerous this is out in the public arena. If say.... a large untrained young dog came at your horse, you would just be a passenger, totally out of control. You may say your dog is bomb proof but there is no such thing under the right threat. I have favored soft hackamores or bites bridles, but absolutely no head contact? Uh, no. Not out in public. Ever. I have seen some terrible accidents in my time and horrific injuries by reckless ppl. It's never the horse's fault.

Stop calling him a fucking arsehole and he might stop doing it! Well done for getting him it's obvious you have worked hard to be able to do these things, so I do clap my hands for you 👏👏👏. However him being able to just tank off will end up in an accident one day- if it can happen with horses it usually does! He could be loose cantering round a corner where you haven't seen someone else out riding on a stallion, he bolts up to that you have a big problem and one horse will get seriously hurt! Also a couple of kids could be round the corner that hes loose bolting round and accidently tramples them either to death or causing serious injury. One day he just go, get the whizzes and not listen to your call at first, thats when an accident will happen!

This is a lovely hack and you are a lovely young woman. I think you may be a bit crackerjacks though. When training with a neck rope, in the early stages you really have to have a back-up plan. A halter and lead rope would do. You need to be able to reach your horse's head. That's the only reason you lost him and it's the only reason you had trouble on the turn. You're taking on rescues and you don't know much about their history. I don't know how long you've had this little horse or the work you've done with him. But he's definitely got what we call a "pony mentality". Incurable. I trust that when you're out there you're changing your diagonals often and your leads often and you're working on leg yielding as well. It also might be a good idea to occasionally try to put your horse on the bit so he uses his top line. Even if it's for short amounts of time. I might be crazy but he felt a little hollow. You school, ring work, yes? Fifteen minutes of schooling before you head out for the trails usually takes the edge off. Keep up the fabulous work and keep sharing it with us! You're a delight! ~~~MJG

Did you cut his mane for some reason? I must tell you, I am thrilled you are trying to ride him without a bit. You do know that what you interpret as the horse’s fault is not his fault. No reason to call him those nasty names IMO.

ANYTHING that comes out of your mouth is important. Everything we say goes out into the universe and once there it travels eternally and can't be taken back. It adds negativity or positivity, take your choice. A simple no or a country holler like, "Get on out outta there!" (In gruff voice) works and not the stupid, facing asshole, etc..) See would you let someone who's teaching you be disrespectful like that? I know you love them all and you're good at what you do. I only wish I could be there with you enjoying as you are. Please take this like I'm a friend not criticism. Use this gift you have and get the best out of it to carry all of your life beautiful girl! Have fun and relax together.

Hi, totally get what you're trying to say. Calling my horses names doesn't mean I love them any less, it's just that it isn't really a big deal around here. Neither is cursing in general. I also don't mean any of it. It mostly happens unconsciously and is just another way to express emotion for me :))

I think you're out of order here. Her language I have absolutely no problem with! I worked with horses for decades and used plenty of swearwords myself! Hers are very mild. It doesn't make any difference as long as the tone is appropriate. Don't be so hung up on the odd A hole comment. I think she has a wonderful relationship with her mount

He is a sweet boy and it's really good that he came back. But you have no safety mechanism on him. It's one thing to do liberty riding in an arena or on your own property. But totally another thing to go out in public places where anything can happen that is not your fault. At least have a halter on your horse even if you just have it tied and don't use it. At least it is there incase you need better communication. The neck rein is not that good for communication if your horse got a fright or took to galloping from fear. The neck rein is more for finesse. Out in public places is not generally a finesse situation. He is such a strong willed horse, he really needs a better communication device like at least a halter. Everything that happens with the horse is your responsibility. So if he has too much energy then it is up to you to use up that excess energy before you go to the woods so he isn't prone to running off. You can't blame him for anything. You keep him confined, you need to exercise him enough to keep him satiated and that needs to be done before releasing him to the wide world without a good communication device on him. I'm so glad you got home safely. One day you may not be so lucky.

Hi, thanks for your comment. This isn't the first time we've done this, there have been a lot of hacks with a halter before this. Slip ups can always happen, especially when working with animals. However, I do trust my horse and don't rely on the neckrope while riding. I don't blame my horse for anything, I completely understand why he is behaving a certain way, but never say that he's at fault at any time. About working off the energy beforehand: it's always quite hard to judge the amount of energy he has. He isn't the most athletic horse anymore since he's also a little older, so usually he doesn't really need that much exercise. Maybe in this case it would have been better to lunge him in the arena first, but didn't think about it then and was probably limited in time. But mistakes are there to learn from, aren't they?

I think you and your horse are amazing but you really should have back up steering and brakes on the road and when other people, horses, vehicles are around. Yes mistakes are for learning but not at the expense of your safety or that if others. I can’t imagine any insurance company paying out if there was an accident. Please keep safe ❤

Let the horses stay outside!! They don't need barn's, they have a very good coat that is protecting them!!! And this horse needs natural horsemanship!! You have to show him that YOU are the leader without hurting him and first on the ground. He does not trust human's- or better said he think's he is the herd leader. Pls do your research, you will see it will get better very soon!!
