Hi all, thanks for the support on the video. To clear some things up, regardless of how or why the dog was loose, it put me and my horse in danger, luckily, my horse is very patient and did not harm the dog. Second, i trotted off straight away to 1) get away from the situation and 2) there was a car behind me (that I almost ended up on the bonnet of because of the dog making my horse back up) and I didnt want to hold up traffic. Thanks again :)

clearly this is a wonderful horse but i am curious what would happen if your horse did kick a dog? i definitely don't want that to happen but it would be a shame if you or the horse got in trouble because the dog owner didn't control their animal when you do

In all fairness modern day dog owners do not take responsibility, but they're really good at making excuses. I would say that goes for probably 80% of them. I would like to see more sweet old dogs get adopted instead of the Pitbull mentality running rampant. Regardless of what someone adopts, train it. Loose dogs are usually nuisance, end of story.. it's easy to tell the people on here who are very biased and dog only because they do not take responsibility, everyone else is supposed to work around them and their dog.. it's getting epidemic and it's ridiculous.

@@elaineburgess9265 Basically I am a 3 dog owner who unleashes the dogs on street. I Can tell tho, as obvious, that this road is too big to leave dogs like that and when there are horses. One buck and its dead, Can't blame on horse cuz a horse is like a prey to it, so it'll defend itself.

If I horses, trained horses and even backed horses for several decades, I complete agree this boy is extremely well behaved. Any horse would react to a dog coming over like that, whether the dog wanted to play or attack, the horse is a prey animal and its instinct is to escape a predator, which is what a dog is.. I've seen dogs being kicked in the head and being instantly killed by a horse because it was off lead around a horse. So yes, this horse is well behaved and the rider thanking drivers that slowed or stopped to pass is great too.

What a great horse and your training and riding obviously gives your horse confidence. Dog owners need to understand how dangerous it is for their dog, the rider and their horse to allow them to run free and cause an accident. This video shows just why we, as riders, need more off road routes.

Totally agree...Unfortunately some people don't think or don't care. We have had this happen down the road giving plenty of room way on the grassy side.. a two-lane road and people will go by and throw their trash and their bottles out right there where you are riding not a mile before not a mile after but they think it's funny to throw things at where the horses are. I don't know what's wrong with people anymore.. and... people who are strictly dog people will never understand this, no matter what a dog does, to them it's okay or an excuse, an aggressive dog is an aggressive dog, end of story. First rule of thumb no dogs under the horse's feet/hooves or never around the arena and never in the Stalls.

Well trained horse and good rider for that matter. It takes a very special bond between the two to react the way you did when that dog came out of nowhere. And the galloping down the trail when you said "not yet... ok". Throughout the video the "good boy" were especially awesome. Giving praise to the horse or any animal strengthens that bond. Stay frosty!

Exactly, I live out in the country, we have areas to ride like the river, woods, and fields farmers let us use when they're not being used for veggies (usually late autumn and winter we get to use them) but we do indeed need to use a busy road to access these areas. It doesnt help its a narrow road and everyone loves speeding in the countryside.. We had horse signs put up, but they seem to drive faster after putting them up

At first I was kinda confused as to why someone would ride around in the middle of a town, but when you see how well behaved and desensitized this horse is to it all, it does kinda make sense. Both for the horses mind and the riders overal safety in the long run. The more your horse is used to things that could be scary, the safer it is. Which is shown in the way the horse handled the dog. Very nice :D

Though tharmt cat has since died. She was murdered by the council, who didn't even apologise after hitting her. We live in a village so its a 20mph area, the cat usually gets off the road when cars come hence why I know they were doing at least 50-60 though our village. i almost got attacked by two dogs somebody let run free around their neighborhood when i was visiting my dad in illinois. i managed to get away from them without being injured but it was terrifying- never, EVER let your dogs run free without supervision, and if you have a dog you cannot physically control, you shouldn't have that dog. in this case, it seems the dog had a lead but got away from the owner(s), they should not have such an aggressive dog if they are unable to prevent it from running off.

❤ What a great horse you have! Definitely not a plod but nice and forward going. Brings back some beautiful memories. Actually I’m tearing up a bit 😭💔 I became very unwell and my illness has progressed to the point where I’m wheelchair reliant and mostly housebound and bedridden. Unless there’s a miracle or a medical cure there’s no hope of improvement sadly. It was lovely watching your video just the familiar sounds of hooves and the wonderful creaking of leather. Total bliss! And your horse is clearly a very happy boy. Loved watching him snacking along the way just those little things that brought me memories. Thanks for sharing your video. Yes I was fortunate enough to live on a small island when I was involved with horses and of course I started mucking out etc and learned to ride when I was still at primary school. I’m 51 now so it was a while ago. But I continued to ride through the years. Back then drivers were considerate and roads were very quiet unless it was the holiday seasons when the trekking centre was busy and the place was full of tourist’s. I had the joy of keeping my favourite horse from autumn to late spring and I had a great time. The place you’re riding is more built up. But when I left the island I experienced similar issues with drivers coming way too close from up behind me and hitting 60 or more! It’s shocking! I haven’t had the nightmare dog situation that you experienced. Absolutely shocking! Like I say you have a great horse there and you were able to hold him nicely and calmly. Well done! I don’t think I would have been so calm as you. The bridle paths were interesting and certainly far from boring. You could tell that your horse was enjoying himself. Oh my gosh the bus was shocking! I live in Canada in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and surprised a wolverine while riding on an old logging road. Wolverines can be exceedingly nasty and this one was. It snarled and leapt forward and I thought for sure my horse was going to get a nasty bite. I also thought my horse would shy away or leap back but I guess after all the years of riding in the mountains and encountering other wild life that he wasn’t to worried. Instead he lifted up his front foot and clunked the wolverine in the head with his hoof which sent the wolverine back into the bush a short ways. It just sat there and growled after that hit and we trotted off. Anyway, something to be said for calm well trained horses. Your horse handles the road and vehicles really well. Mine isn’t fond of vehicles at all but then we don’t ride around them much. With the exception of some country roads horses aren’t allowed on the roads here.

Your horse is very well-trained. I give you praise for that. The horse, to my own surprise, didn't seem to panic like other horses would when a dog would charge at them. And that dog was very lucky that your horse didn't panic because if it did, your horse would've either severely injured or killed the dog since it would trample, bite, or kick at it in response. I'm glad the situation ended quickly and painlessly. God bless.

Remember folks. There are no bad dogs, only idiots who don't train them. That being said, my sister has a MEAN horse, hates dogs. Doesn't try to throw you or buck, but if he can, he'll grab the dog in his teeth and YEET then as hard as he can over his back, then he tries to stomp them into the dirt.

Wow, you're amazing with your horse. I know I go trail riding on my friend's horse, and this dog off leash scared me a bit. So I know how you felt in that situation, and you did amazing.

The woman scolding the guy for dropping the leash and letting the dog loose was priceless. However, the fact that neither of them thought to apologize was just disgusting. Their dog came in totally aggressive and hard, and they're lucky that horse was extremely sold or things could have ended so much worse. OMG.

It seems like the guy with the border collie let the dog go so she could run at her other owner (the woman walking a bit in front of them). This is so dangerous if you have a reactive dog or if your dog doesn't listen to you whenever. If there wasn't a horse, there could have been a car, someone on a bike, someone with an agressive dog, etc. Very irresponsible behaviour. Glad neither your horse nor their dog got injured! They should have apologized at the very least...

I do that sometimes with my dogs. But, it's so important to check your surroundings first, and not just let go. And even if they're well trained, I'd never do it in an area with that much traffic.

That bus should not have tried to get around you, sheesh. That was waaaay too close. That driver needs a reminder of what it's like to have a bus go by that closely while on the side of a road.

At least they first people were trying to get their dog and it was on a leash but may have slipped. Doesn't look like they actually wanted him to roam free. Edit: I'd be scared to death by this bus driving alonside me soooo close. I mean the horse just needs to trip or be scared or anything and the next blink I'd be lying under that bus... I think I could never get used to riding in a village or anything😅 Kudos to you and your horse
