It was flapping right in the horse's face, but the way it kept its composure. Amazing horse

It’s the ear bonnet that’s making this happen- especially understandable with a horse like this who keeps flexion at the poll (and top of neck) PLUS keeps his ears pricked forward the entire ride. Really beautifully ridden, amazing that the horse kept up such quality with the tack and bonnet flapping in his face!

Stupid bonnet, should be banned. You interfere with a horse's ears and you got him, worse than drugs.

I mean the horse still had the bit in its mouth and the rider was still using that to signal. What's amazing, is that the horse didn't freak out to have this stuff flapping around its nose and still maintained focus.

They should introduce this as a compulsory part of the Global Champions Tour. If you cannot steer or adjust pace/distance without half a forge fitted on the horse's head you do not deserve to win.

Yeah the horse still had the bit in his mouth, which was being kept in by the pressure from the reins. This was not brideless or even bitless riding, though it's still very impressive the horse kept focused and obedient with all those bridle straps flapping around his nose.

someone forgot to do up/attach the throatlatch snugly enough; with a very forward going/forward facing (ears forward constantly), no throatlatch to HOLD the bridle on the horses head/face, the downward constant tug of the martingale from the reins can/will eventually pull the bridle right off the horses head, as without a snug throatlatch strap, theres nothing to hold it ON the top of the head.

I bet the groom got a bollocking. But ... the rider should have checked his tack prior to jumping ... especially the bit fit, noseband adjusted properly and so on.

It would be easier for people on the ground to help maintain control of the horse while the rider dismounted, and likely released pressure on the bit. Plus you never know what a horse will do in an arena and people in the stands. It’s safer all around for everyone for there to be extra help… necessary or not.

No competition is worth your horse's safety & this was just unsafe, rider should have stopped b/c of the flapping ear bonnet/bridle. I've seen this happen where the rider reaches over & grabs the loose tack & continues, that's OK. They were lucky, obviously an awesome horse & skilled rider team.
@henrietta9394

the horse was focused and showed no signs of stress. This guy is a very good horseman - it's down to him to make the call to continue because he knows how the horse feels. I'm sure if he sensed any discomfort with his horse then he would have pulled up. Don't be so ignorant to underestimate the connection horse and rider that is required at a level like this.

What GREAT horse, giving it it's all, as horses do. Did anyone besides me notice the tail swishing over every single jump? That means pain, or discomfort. He he still did what he had to do. I say HAD to do, as no horse would choose this life.
@vintagelady1
@vintagelady1 7 ай бұрын
Tail swishing over a jump is an individual quirk of horses, & does not indicate pain or discomfort. Remember that the tail serves as a rudder, also, to help the horse maneuver. As for poor horsie not choosing this life, these horses definitely love to jump, love to not be bored , no way you can get this kind of performance out of any horse without its consent. If a horse don't wanna do it, it don't do it. I refer you to videos of extremely competent & professional riders going into the dressage ring & the horse just says NO that day. Nothing you do can force a horse to perform brilliantly. They are treated like royalty & like the superb athletes that they are, best feed, ice boots after each performance & training, not standing around in a stall chewing wood to have something to do, or running the range & hoping the BLM doesn't chase them to exhaustion into crowded corrals where they often stay for years. If you want to crusade for better horse treatment, I suggest looking into the Big Lick Tennessee Walkers, who are terribly abused, or the mustangs trapped in the BLM pens so big-business cattle ranchers can have cheap grazing rights. Now there's a couple of noble causes.
@famouskate9071
@famouskate9071 7 ай бұрын
@@vintagelady1 Yes, as a retired professional rider, I am involved in many areas to bring awareness to the abuse of horses. Big Lick, of course, and others, including dressage and show jumping. That horse is not using his tail for a rudder.

@@oldageisdumb True, tail swishing is not always pain. But, it is always discomfort or displeasure. The fact he only does it over jumps, not while being held back, indicates pain.
