All the horses are so anxious.. I love the way they look but I really don't support the way they're treated. Glad some of them can find a lovely home with you
@SpottedLeafy4 жыл бұрын
The horses in the video are all very young. Due to the culture around horses in Spain from what I can gather, young horses are all turned out together with minimal handling until they are brought in to be sold or start their training under saddle. Keeping in mind that horses are prey animals and have a tendency to be anxious and flighty because of this, it is logical that these horses, would be anxious, especially with 4-5 people crowding around them at once as seen in the video. An anxious horse, particularly a young one is not an indicator of whether they have been abused or not. Though I will say that I strongly disagree with the stabling situation. No horse should be cooped up in a stall 24/7, which seems to be a thing in Spain as well.
@freeassange4024 жыл бұрын
@@SpottedLeafy and they have brutal trainingsskills. Thats why the horses are maybe scared :(
@SpottedLeafy4 жыл бұрын
@@freeassange402 That is a big assumption you are making as nowhere in the video do you see anything to suggest cruel training methods at any of these places. Last time there was something wrong with a place, Matt made sure to point it out and talk about it. What you DO see however are young horses, who have not been handled much as foals. Since young horses can be nervous and jittery as is, even with handling, it's no surprise these guys are anxious. Stop trying to make everything about abuse, it's not. Horses are not like cats or dogs, they are prey animals, therefore their response to new situations is going to be very different. I've ridden a horse (he was 15 at the time) who suddenly became terrified of the hose on the ground next to the arena . One that had been there for years. That day he shied near it, got jumpy and then would freak every time we went to that corner of the arena. Does that mean he was abused with a hose at one point? Of course not! He is a horse, and decided that day that the hose might be a predator and it might just eat him so he better steer clear of it. Likewise, a young horse, who probably has only seen a handful of people in its life may have a similar reaction to seeing new people. They aren't necessarily scared because they have been abused, they are just at the point where they haven't been exposed to enough people to decide whether people as a whole might be a danger. And need I point out that all these horses were stallions?

It's a practice that stallions be taught to go to the wall and stand when someone enters the stall. This is for staff safety as well as good manners for a stallion. It seems extreme until you deal with a stallion. Then it makes perfect sense and no longer looks like punishment. It's not seen as punishment by the stallions, they like the structure and knowing the rules. That's where they get groomed and fussed over, on the wall, where everyone is safe.

It's pretty normal for Spanish breeders to keep young horses in big herds in open pastures, only bringing them in to be handled when they get broken in (or to sell), so the young unbroken 3 yo has probably been very minimally handled and not desensitized to anything at all, which explains the jitters.

@annasilver86254 жыл бұрын
@Joanne Jackson if you were saying they were hit, that’s a big possibility. But they were young and younger horses usually are just more headshy because it’s not natural for another animal to move like a human does and humans can move fast which is why the horse might flinch, it’s their flight instinct. My weanling used to be incredibly headshy when she was 4-5 months old, she had never been hit or disciplined but I learned she’s reacting based on instincts instead of her knowledge of humans (which did not outweigh her instincts) so I worked with her on how humans move, act and how spontaneous we are (unlike horses) and she’s completely fine with whatever a human does at the age of 7 months now. It just takes them getting used to humans which some of these young horses probably weren’t.

i'd say don't look for looks 😂 it's literally the worst thing to buy a random horse just because it's beautiful. the character is the most important thing if you want a 'friend' but some people don't even care about that. it depends on what you wanna do. look for a natural good back and hindlegs, a horse that it's easy for to collect himself. if you're a good rider and want to help horses, you can also buy a horse that has a difficult anatomy. also pay attention not to support animal abusers by buying their horses. and visit the horse more than once to get to know it before buying it.

Its pretty impossible to make a video what to look for. A jumper, endurance horse or dressage horse for example would be so differwnt in many ways. Yes, good comformation should be important, but there is no way to teach someone to evaluate it in one video. And more than often the "right feeling" can have bigger role than expected when making the final desigion.

No properly trained horse should spook at a guy tripping, and not very hard at that, of course a young horse can have that exception

Hey Matt, Thank you so much for sharing your trip to Spain with all of us. I really enjoy watching the videos that you upload. I hope you're not too discouraged that you didn't find that one "special" stallion to bring home and into your family. There for sure is one out there and he's just biding his time...he is certain his new dad will come for him when the timing is right. I wish you the best in your search, and (you already know this) you are very blessed to have precious people in your life who love you so much!

I'm still just wondering what happened to "I'm getting a 3rd horse because Chase is "off" from competing and Emporio is too young still" 😂 And still you're here looking at 2-4 year olds hahaha?
@Ekane984 жыл бұрын
Why not get a 5-7 year old who is already at intermediate level? Then Matt and the horse improve together and he can keep training Emporio while competing?

Before he got Emporio he said he was looking for a jumping horse but then he saw the pre stallions and I assume became obsessed lol. And since pre horse arent very good for jumping he decided to just keep Emporio as a dressage horse, I assume that's what hell do with his new horse too
@e.m.lumesound10704 жыл бұрын
@@antianti328 that's not true actually, Spanish breeds make excellent jumpers, it's just that they are more often loved by dressage riders. My coach has an Andalusian sporthorse who is one of the most agile & clever jumpers I've seen.

The last yard had a very lovely vibe, more gentle than the ones before. The horses also looked soft natured and the trainer with the final horse on the longe was very grounded.

why stallions though, to breed eventually?
@carinadvh4 жыл бұрын
@@easytoslip no because all the horses that were showed are stallions. So that is why not to breed just because there wasn't a mare in the video

investing in a camera stabilizer and or more hands to help film and edit would really bump this content to the next level. the actual quality of these videos should be good enough to reflect the content

Me to! shockingly disgusting the last yard... I believe none of these breeders in this video have any idea on handling or training stallions on the ground, which is why the whips come out as they're scared of the horses, its nothing to do with 'that's how they train them' pathetic excuse. I really didn't enjoying watching these videos but I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking these things

@Sleipnir8004 жыл бұрын
True. After what I could find out on Google it's no big deal and could be handled with proper training so I don't understand why that's a no go. 🤔
@axellelaurent86184 жыл бұрын
It's only esthetical and you can try to hide it with training but it will never disappear and everyone with a "good eye" can see it. It’s an internal problem, bond to a ligament if I remember. And I think Matt say a big no because it’s considerate as a very severe fault in the breed, it’s not fit the conformational perspective. And stallions (as mares) with fallen crest can’t be place at reproduction because they transmit it to their foals. I’m just guessing ! (Sorry if my English is not right I’m French)

''I like big baroque horses and something taller as well''. Me too, thats why I choose an Irish Draught instead of a PRE. Not a draft, not a warmblood, not an iberian, but a mix of them all. It's a rare and expensive breed, but they are very sweet, versatile and stunning. Mine is a 17.3hh dapple grey, long-legged lad with a hint of a roman nose and a big crested neck. You should check out that breed.
