As a person who now needs a 3rd spine surgery, I understand how important soft tissue tests are! 😬💕

I once judged Tennessee Walking Horse shows and I can tell you it is a heartbreaker to watch these beautiful animals wear these 7" pads around the clock. It is similar to a woman wearing highheels around the clock 7 days a week. The big lick needs to be against the law. Years ago, I purchased a show name that I had watched for over a year. I had the farrier to remove the pads and all shoes. Her front hoofs were so soft that the vet said it would take a good year if not longer for her hoofs to grow to the point that they would be "normal." I am a little too old to go out and protest with you folks, but my thoughts and prayers are with you in this effort to stop this awful "spring" horses.

There are some really great people out there. It is wonderful that those who can, generously donate so that HPHS can become even more effective in their efforts to save/help at risk horses + plus other domesticated animals. Great people doing great things! I love what the barn manager said about the Tennessee Big Lick horses being beautiful the way they are naturally, without the cruelty of soring (use of caustic chemicals) and stacks. In other words, don't change the horses for show competition, change the judging criteria and let the spectators enjoy the spectacular, natural beauty of those gorgeous animals.

The tornado aftermath brought me to tears. We've had our fair share of them in Iowa too. It always amazes me how many miracles I've seen with horses trapped in barns that were totally destroyed. We've dug horses out from under the rubble expecting serious injuries where there were nothing more than a few scrapes, bumps and bruises. The worst was following an EF 5 huge wedge tornado that wiped out a small town and a stable along with several other farms. The animal casualties were horrific and scarred me for life. People immediately showed up from surrounding communities including vets to try to save any animals that they could, but there weren't many that could be saved. That tornado left a path of total destruction over a half mile wide. A family lost their stable, horses, cattle barn, cows and their house, but survived. There was a basement where the house was removed and the contents were all sucked out except for the corner where the family was sheltering. God gives us little miracles every day, but some days he really makes it obvious.

The place where I board both my horses was hit by a tornado near Elkhorn, NE. The fence was torn down, horses were out, shop destroyed, and trailers flipped all around the property. One horse was found in the pasture with a broken leg - she was older but so sad. Both of mine are okay. My mare had a 3" cut on her hip, but its totally healed now. I will never forget that dreadful feeling driving over to see them. I'm so thankful horse plus went to help them! 🙏
