Nigerian Dwarf Goat No Waste Hay Feeder

This feeder has been so amazing and works perfectly! I love it so much I want Jake to make me another one 😁
This was inspired by the Feeder over at Lumnah Acres. We made it much smaller though :)
Materials List:
(7) 2x4x8'
(1) 4x8 Sheet of 1/2 Inch Plywood
(1) 1x4x8'
(2) 2x2x8'
(1) Horse Panel - for the Hay feeder(we bought a whole panel to make multiple feeders)
(4) galvanized Fence Staples
(6) 1/4 Cable Clamps
* 3 Inch Torx Deck Screws
* 1 1/4 Inch Torx Deck Screws
* Roof Material Your Choice/ We used Corrugated Metal
Cut list:
Cut Four 2x4's to five foot long, use the other pieces that you cut off to cut 4 18 inch 2x4's and two 2 foot 2x4's.
Cut two 2x4's to 42 inches
Cut one 2x4 to 45 Inches
Cut 4 pieces 3/12 pitch 23 1/4 long
Cut 2 pieces of 1/2 inch plywood at 24 inches x 48 inches (for roof)
Cut 1 at 24x42 inches (bottom tray)
Make 16x42 inch(outside dimension) frame with the 2x2's
Cut Horse Panel into two pieces 24 inches tall x 38 1/4 inches wide
Cut two triangles out of Plywood for the gaps on the side 13 inches wide 24 inches tall.

Awesome video!!! This feeder is exactly what I have been wanting to make so the timing is perfect. I just had a 48x64 barn built for our goats, hay loft and my farm equipment. My husband kept saying my stuff was taking up too much space in “his” barns, so I had my own built 😆. One of my first projects I want to make is this style hay feeder. Thanks this is so great! We made a hayfeeder for the does pen from a big commercial freezer basket and wood lol.We are now in the process of making hay feeders for the pasture and a new buck pen so this is so timely!

Love this! Only concern is trim off those sharp metal roof corners at head height. Definitely a recipe for stitches! Nice job on the feeder design!

What size board did you use at the very top of the roof that connects the two triangular sections? I don’t believe you mentioned that. And how did you make the tiny triangle pieces that went under your 3/12 cut 2x4’s on the roof? You didn’t mention that either. Thank you!

thank you! our hay feeder fails bc it’s basically on a “table” that they jump onto while they eat, pulling out the hay from wire with 4x4 openings. All the hay they pull onto the table gets stepped and pooped on and therefore is wasted. I did see one of your goats jump onto the tray to eat - does that happen a lot and cause wasted hay, and if so, is there a solution for that? Thank you so much!! huge $$for us!
