Horseradish is by far the easiest plant I've ever grown. plant it and harvest it; that's all you have to do. The fun starts when you try to harvest it. then it becomes a whole cage of monkeys. Then you have to process it. That part is actually the real fun.

Wow! Wishing I would have gotten in on the horseradish give away! Just saw this today! I want to start growing it for lots of reasons but the main reason is I make jerky and horseradish is a main ingredient in my jerky marinade! Your horseradish looks amazing! I'm growing mine in 15 gallon containers. Easy harvest and because of the rainy season here in subtropics I can prevent root rot

​@@TheGypsyandtheVanillaGorilla I bought two plants in one gallon pots today that are close to 3 feet tall. I will be transferring them into 20 gallon pots. It should be much easier to harvest from pots. And much easier to control the spread of the plants.

I haven't bought Horseradish ever. It tastes better than the Horseradish i've had at restaurants. It is delicious 😋

Fresh tastes much better compared to the one in the jar. It’ll make you cry too and clears sinuses in case of a cold. Freshly grated goes best with grilled fish. Cheers!

This was informative! Love horseradish. So in theory of deer at the greens the root might still grow down below? Probably not but you said ask questions!

Deer won't eat it too hot! Even the leaves. It would grow either way though. I mow it off comes right back!

Deer will eat Horseradish. We have never had any deer eat ours, they are resilient plants though, I think it would still be okay, maybe thin the herd a bit if deer become a problem!

I’m in zone 5b. Can I plant a 6 inch root that I bought to cook with? ( it doesn’t have any little roots coming off the large root). Is it ok to cut in 1/2 or should I not cut and just plant the way it came. Thanks in advance!

When you say you mow it twice a year, what time of the year (or stage of growth) are you talking about? Will this increase the roots width? I grow horseradish but am struggling to get it to be a thick useable root.

1st and third trimester...lol we mow it once when it's about 2 inches tall and then at the end of the season before Snow

I just got a large single root broke it two. I’m in zone 8, when would be the best time to plant? If fall, how can I store the root till cooler temps to keep it growable?

You can plant anytime I would say. If you can dig. You can only harvest in the early winter or 1 month after life cycle
