Often seen on human athletes, kinesio-taping is increasingly being used on horses.
The elasticated tape works by acting on several areas of the body: skin, fascia, muscles and tendons, joints and ligaments, and the lymphatic system. Depending on how you apply the tape, it can compress or decompress an area, activate muscles or support muscles that need to do a little bit less work.
Taping can also prevent injury, reduce pain, reduce inflammation and help the lymphatic system clear out waste.
Learning how to kinesio-tape would be a fantasic tool to add to your kitbag of therapy techniques and it has its uses either during exercise or post exercise, allowing the therapeutic effects to continue long after the therapist has left the yard.
