Yes...there are enough videos here on KZbinbout about musicians playing, for elephants, cows, dogs, horses and birds.
@y_fam_goeglyd3 жыл бұрын
There have been studies to prove that (or disprove it, of course). Turned out in one study, some years back now, a dairy farmer who played music via a sound system in the milking barn increased his yield by a small but statistically (and financially) significant amount. Classical is their favourite (though I've heard of some liking trad or smooth jazz - not "modern", unharmonious music), with Mozart being their ultimate favourite. So even the composer made a statistically significant difference!
@y_fam_goeglyd3 жыл бұрын
@@stranraerwal Paul Barton plays piano for elephants, amongst doing many other things brilliantly. You can see the ele's body physically relax, their eyes shut, and sometimes they rest their trunks on his piano if he plays one of their favourites. They're at a sanctuary for old, working elephants and some are really old, losing their sight and so on. Alongside the excellent daily care they get, they clearly love it when he goes to play for them.

@@MajSolo I think that you, and @delishme, don't have much contact with horses. If you did, you would know they are very intelligent, if a little too trusting of humans, who have murdered tens of millions of them in the wars that humans are so eager to engage in. Horses, along with Dogs and humans, were the trio that created all civilisations, the development of farming, hunting, protection, and safety. Humans didn't do anything by themselves, never forget that.

@@Demun1649 we are homo sapiens we domesticated them, we in the long run at a resonable stable pace gave them food, famine and war made us sometimes unable to feed them but the whole point is that we feed them. Many more animals in the kingdome of nature is smart not just horses and dogs as you point out. Quite some smarter then horses and dogs. Being smart comes in various forms, individual intelligence or hive intelligence. For individual intelligence you can look at mammals in the ocean as an example. I do not think horses and dogs rate very high. But as I wrote far far above the music do awake something in the horses, EVEN if they never were designed to respond to it through evolution. This does not mean that they understand Mozart. It just mean they are not against, or for these new sounds. They are just listening. Does not mean they are smart or professional listeners of art.
@Demun1649 Жыл бұрын
@@MajSolo You should have stopped after the first 4 words. After that, the mistakes poured out of your keyboard. You don't understand tenses. You don't know how to use the comma. In fact, your post only reinforces my opinion that dogs and horses are more intelligent than the MAJORITY of humans. And you prove my point. Have you ever been to stables that specialise in Riding For The Disabled? The horses treat the disabled with much more respect than you humans do.

Maybe it depends on the horses? Back when I still had my farm, at the end of a hard day I'd pull up a lawn-chair under my huge cedar tree with a glass of iced tea, and sing to my horses. They'd gather around and often dozed-off--my stallion even put his chin on my shoulder. Wasn't unusual to have my dogs, cats and even some chickens would meander up for music hour. I learned this from working at a racing stable, the race horses really loved it, relaxed and snoozed when I sang to them.

A friend of mine lived down the street from a horse retirement home. The woman who ran the place would rescue horses destined to be put down not for legitimate reasons but rather due to outliving their usefulness to their owners. She also would occasionally take in one as a simple rescue, usually due to neglect or abuse. The horses usually were not ridden though occasionally she got one that obviously wanted to be taken for a ride. She had 320 acres half meadows and half woods or thereabouts, a brook that went through and a small pond. There was a fence that kept the horses in and a barn where they could go when it was cold but they were all free to come and go as they please otherwise and could decide for themselves what they wanted to do with their time which was mostly sleeping and eating and running around. I think she had around 30 horses or thereabouts. The woman who ran the horse retirement home was also a fan of classical music. She would play a wide variety of pieces from different composers from violin concertos to symphonies and short piano and organ pieces. She played them on loudspeakers she had at the barn. No matter what, when she started up the music in the afternoon, almost all the horses would come galloping from wherever they happen to be to congregate just outside the barn where the speakers were and just mill about listening to the music. When the concert was done they would go back to whatever they were doing wherever that was. Many knew what time it was and got to the barn close to the right time in anticipation of the concert. One interesting thing of note is that the horses reacted positively to the music more often than they did to feeding time. Fun fact: 30 horses will produce enough fertilizer in a year for a ten acre garden. As it happens my friend had a well fertilized ten acre garden. Go figure.
