@Temulon Жыл бұрын
"and the look of joy and contentment in her eyes" What a load of crap. You believe it's joy and contentment because that is what you want to see. You obviously are biased and you're attributing human traits, emotions, or intentions to elephants which aren't humans. If you took a screen shot of the closeup of the elephants eye and printed out an image which you showed to a large number of people and asked them "What do you believe this elephant is thinking?" you'd get a great number of different opinions, none of which by the way, might be joy and contentment. The bottom line is that you have no idea what an animal is thinking/experiencing when they hear music. All you know it what YOU experience and you assume the animal does too. TL;DR...You're a moron.

@Anon1gh38 ай бұрын
@@its_johnH Well lets not let our wants obscure the truth. We humans have a bad habit of projecting our sympathies onto animals. By the way, "empathy" is based on shared experience, "sympathy" is based on emotion. People say women are more empathetic than men but that's actually backwards. Men generally want to help those they have common experiences with, whereas women generally want to help those who are the _most_ different or unrelatable, often to the detriment of both parties. If you don't know what problem you're dealing with, more harm tends to be the result. There's something called a white savior complex that exemplifies this.

This will always and forever be my favorite video of all time. Elephants fascinate me. They laugh, and they cry. They love and they hate. They have traditions and rituals. They play with their children, and they mourn their dead. All it takes is a set of eyes and a basic sense of empathy to recognize them as self-aware beings much like you and I. An elephant's brain weighs 12 pounds. That's the same as about 4 human brains, not to mention we humans probably had to trade off a lot of mental functionality in order to have language. We think we're the smartest because we're the only ones that can have a conversation about it. But I guarantee that elephant is wiser than me. The way her entire demeanor changes when he starts playing, you can tell she's listening and enjoying the music. Something about the way her ears move in recognition just tugs at my heart. It's such a melancholy thing to see that reaction from a creature that's lived such a long life and has seen much more than I have, or may ever see. There are emotional depths behind those eyes that we as humans could never fully grasp. But when we do manage to bridge that gap, even for just a moment, it's by way of pure empathy, and it's truly beautiful.

To respond to your mention of us trading some possible intellect for speech, this is called the Cognitive Tradeoff Theory. Through demonstration, we can show that the main ability we sacrificed is a photographic short term memory with complex spacial placement. Though, while I think humans are smarter overall, wisdom is harder to express or quantify. I don't doubt elephants can be wise. Wisdom is mostly influenced by experience and something that has lived for 80 years, regardless of intelligence, would have a wealth of experience.

As should every encounter should be. We humans are in the billions whilst these animals number in the thousands perhaps hundreds. It is indeed a meeting of two souls but it inherently more special because it's not as if you could walk outside and meet an elephant alost instantly. These animals are protected. And rightly so, anyone who sows the evil seeds of karma will surely be the hand that also wipes themselves out. Karma will always get you in the end. But I digress, I say that elephants are unique and special. And it was a wonderful treat to see this video. I really could feel the emotions the elephant was conveying. @@thematturlookingfor I wouldn't lie, I did look on Google to express the right words, but, let's just say I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to documentaries about nature and wildlife, and I first found this out on a programme about how people use animals to entertain tourists, and how you can tell if they are happy was mentioned in it, because so many people misunderstand the elephant' s body language, and think it's happy, despite it being uncomfortable and in pain in reality.... And btw this is completely unrelated tho, but elephants and giraffes are such gentle giants, they are definitely my favourite animals. I hope you all have a nice day! 🐘

Well, considering this location employs the use of mahouts, which physically abuse elephants with the use of bullhooks and pins. They also go through the process of "phajaan" or "break", which is usually to bind them in cages too small to stand, tie their legs together and stab, cut and berate them until they are completely submissive. Usually before age 3. Just to say, elephant tourism is an awful industry. There is almost certainly a mahout standing off camera controlling the elephant, and this elephant was very likely abused from a young age to make it submissive and profitable. By the way, this place advertises itself as non-profit and ethical. It's a for profit business and as far as I know the only ethical way of observing elephants would be in the wild on a guided tour. Elephants that you can physically interact with have WITHOUT EXCEPTION gone through the break process.

@@jaredb5350 How can you be sure of this? There are conservations out there that protect and feed animals from a young age which then grow up to be comfortable around humans
@jaredb5350 Жыл бұрын
@@Kathoi I'm sorry to say that this isn't the case. Elephants are massive, wild animals capable of high speed and efficient attack. In order for this to video to be filmed safely, this elephant was broken a long time ago. They are surely intelligent and empathetic, but naturally they are still wild animals, that operate in environments where predation is a given and human interaction is unnatural to say the least. As it stands, there is no way to ensure that an elephant can be safely filmed in situations like this without a statistically significant chance of the elephant killing the individual. This isn't their fault, but it also makes wild elephants unprofitable.

A person who once meant everything to me would always come to me whenever they'd needed some comfort and she would always play this song in the background on Spotify or KZbin, she would even ask me to play it to her sometimes when she didn't want to open up a new tab since i have a piano at home. It would always make her feel better as it would play and she would stare at me with the most gentle and peaceful stare, even loving in some occasions. Just like this elephant, she would stay quiet and enjoy until it was over. A few months after she's gone and this video appears. I wonder whats harder, getting an elephant to a piano or a piano to an elephant
@dittilio4 жыл бұрын
I... Hmm.. I suppose it probably depends on the elephant, and the piano. That's a rather amusing question. I expect it'd be easier to bring a baby-grand to the Congo than an Elephant to Albert Hall. But I think we should start a gofundme to find out for sure.

no there is no hope .. not a little .. a few hands full of people can do nothing. Instead of cutting down the forests, we build artificial algae towers in the cities ... instead of issuing penalties for indndia and everyone else who dumps their garbage into the sea every day 24/7 - 365 days a year, we also sell the stuff to these criminals yet. Instead of trying to switch electrionic drives like hydrogen in a sensible way, we're going the easy way and want to produce batteries for millions of cars for which we don't have enough rare earths and the chemicals used to manufacture them will contaminate the country without restriction... I could go on forever .. no no hope
@alstef094 жыл бұрын
@@feldartillerie1620 That's what i've been trying to say, there is literally no hope because all of the chemicals we dumped plus the most radioactive seas of japan and climate change, freshwater depletion, Ocean over fishing, and etc + economic growth and we are struggling to feed billions upon until no animals are left to eat, also the protests and looting makes it worse because of the fires they emit carbon dioxide and the garbage dumped upon floor, there will never be hope all we can trust is faith.

My parents lost interest in me playing a long time ago, and my brother just screams at me to turn the piano off (I'm not bad, I have a music school diploma). But my cat would always come to me and listen to me play. She would lay on the piano or on the bed and listen, never disturbing me and never leaving. She passed away a little over a year ago, and it always brings me to tears when I play and there is noone there. I never realised how much her presence made me feel less lonely, and now playing is always so alone and the room seems too quiet and empty. Kind of don't have a point to play anymore. I had someone to share the art of music, the new pieces I learned and my improvements, now it's just me.
