Did this hike for my 18th back in 2001. We got to the top where the lake is. One of my buddies had to poop. We didnt have toilet paper. So he pooped in a bush, stripped down and jumped in the lake. My other buddies and I decided to take all his clothes (left his socks and shoes) and ran down the mountain. So if you were hiking Horsetail Falls with your family in the Summer of 2001 and saw a naked dude running down the hill hiding behind rocks and trees from families and their children... Well sorry not sorry. That shit was hilarious. This is an amazing hike though. And if you get the chance, hike the Desolation Trail into the Tahoe Basin. We used to do it in 2-3 days. I once spent 8 days up there just hiking around and enjoying the place. It really is one of a kind. Merry travels everyone!

thank you so much for the great description of the hike. I was a little uneasy about doing the hike because All Trails noted it as hard and it mentioned rock climbing so I thought it was like true rock climbing lol. I will be doing this hike soon. Also I love your music!

Thank you for the comment. Ya its not that hard at all. Talking to folks it sounds like hiking to the top of the Falls is the true hard part. Have a great hike!

Glad you liked it. I always try and put humor to my videos. 🤣. When I hike places like this alone I'm constantly talking to myself out loud; hey bear!

Nice! Been there many times. Once I tried a Hwy 50 to Hwy 80 run on the PCT but had to call it quits 2/3 of the way. Haven’t tried that again. 🤭. It sure would be nice (or maybe not) if drones were allowed there.

Nice, love the PCT. Great idea. I wish drones were allowed as well. Hopefully soon! Pct 50 to 80 is a great idea!

How many miles was the 2/3rds? That sounds far and a heck of an adventure.

It took us into 40-miles plus. Probably shouldn't have stopped so many times to take pics. We started around 7am from Echo Lake area parking. By the time we called it off, it was around 10pm. It was back in August 2014. I was training for the Headlands 100-mile run. The training helped though. I finished the 100. 🙂

@@spearcy wow. That's awesome. I'm sure you made lots of unforgettable memories. 100 miles! I trained for a 50 miler once but never did it. Biggest races on land I've done is half Ironmans. 100 miles is amazing.

How long is the trek at a steady pace, how long does it take to reach the falls???

I can't remember but it wasn't long at all; about 2.5 hours total... A fire did hit the area and I've herd the trail is hard to follow.

Sadly, almost all the trees you see in this video on the hike up to Horsetail Falls burned in late August in the Caldor Fire. This area will never look the same again in our lifetimes thanks to one or two careless people.

It's very sad. I've been wanting to head out here to see what it looks like now. I'm lucky I got to experience it when I did.

I've been wanting to do this hike for years, but after seeing the devastation about 1 1/2 months back... I just don't have the heart to do it anymore. And it won't start to look like it did for at least 20-30 years or so.
