At a certain point i got bothered about the stable. Why can not keeping the horses (not only young ones) on fields -be a standard... During the video i was like, maybe the brought the horses in to show them easyer. But it turned out, they keeping them in most of the time. And my personal best part was when the lady said: "when the doors closed they become naughty" Umm yes madame you would be if you would be kept in a tiny empty room everyday all day... I honestly don't understand these high standard propertys, all the luxury, all the space, gym, inside arenas, "very important" office, but not a freaking fucking pasture... Just why? They try to be so relevant saying that they have a very strong connection with these horses, i highly doubt that with these conditions.

@@KSJen it's well known most dressage horses get hardly any turn out it's very rare carl hester is one of few who gives his horses turn out. It's cruel. Horses were not designed to live in a box apart from the 1 hour turn out they might get and being worked, the excuse is they are too expensive to risk hurting themselves in a field. so restricting them is obviously going to make them sooo calm when they do get to go out. Sorry just something I'm passionate about, I worked on an event yard and again they got 1 hour out!

They are beautiful horses. I volunteer at a rescue for horses. When I hear 110 horses being bred, I worry about what happens to the horses that don't make the cut. Am I going to be seeing the ones bred in Australia starving and dejected. It's so sad seeing the ones we can't save going off on trucks to be made into dog meat. I wish these breeders would stop over breeding or at least limit breeding and make sure they don't end up on a doggers' truck ever😢

@carolef2271 I've seen plenty of top bred horses starving, injured, and sold at auctions. Literally, hundreds of TBs are aging in shelters right now. Unless they have a contractual agreement to return the horses that they said they auction online, they don't know where their horses will end up. Horses live for a very long time. They need to be protected from terrible conditions. I love all the horses at the sanctuary I volunteer with, but there are 70 horses there, and most of them are top TB. The mongrels, as you call them, are few and far between. That's probably because the mongrels are owned by people who know horse ownership is a lifelong commitment, not just eventing or racing machines.
@carolef2271
@carolef2271 7 ай бұрын
@@Krinsta1 TB’s have been (in)bred to run and are no longer built like sport horses. In the days when they became hunters/jumpers and dressage mounts, they had bones, height and nice movements. They are now smallish and have very little substance. Most of them have faulty conformation for the sport. The exceptional ones can be used for eventing and low level jumping. That is why most of them do not find themselves in a successful second career. I must admit that top breeders of sport horses (warmbloods) do not keep the ordinary ones. They keep what can make a name for themselves or sell to the highest bidder. The ones that are « culled » from their breeding operations will end up in the hands of trainers/riders that can develop them properly, if they are lucky, while the others will be « abused » and end up in difficult situations.

I pass this place regularly and never liked what I saw. Seeing it on the inside now makes me even more sad. Especially because the people (at least in this video) only speak of the horses’ bloodlines, talents and achievements. They don’t speak about what they do to fulfill the true needs of these horses at all (and please, can we all agree being in these stables for that many hours is NOT comfortable for the horses). Of course, it becomes rather obvious these needs are not fully met, just as is the case with a lot of these kinds of places. I seriously wonder why this tour only showed the training facilities and not their pastures (most of them are super small, but they do have them. With a little bit of grass even). I do see them turn out their horses, but only for a few hours a day and usually it looks like the same few horses every time (but admittedly many look alike, so I could be mistaken) (I see four together in a group in a slightly bigger pasture and then a bunch of horses each on their own square. Sometimes I spot a larger group of youngsters together as well and a small pony they put alone in a metal roundpen away from the rest. They also have a shetland/mini that I really wish they would give a buddy…). Seeing how many horses they actually have now gives me the impression some don’t get to roam outside at all or just not for certain days or periods (like, the dude said about the two year olds: “ten days ago they were still in the field”). What I do know is that their freshly weaned (at least, the one ‘batch’ I also pass because they are kept a kilometer away) don’t see the daylight until spring, after which they get a few hours turnout on a rediculously small stroke on which they cannot run because they crowd it. I’m glad to see a lot of people in the comment section worry about the horses’ (stressful) confinement and lack or absence of turnout. I hope it inspires them and others reading through these comments to try to give their own horses better lives and to reconsider supporting businesses like van Olst horses (like, if you are going to buy a baby sportshorse try getting one from a breeder that does a better job at ticking the ‘wellfare’ and ‘wellbeing’ boxes).

Would have been nice to see tha pastures more too and know how much turnout they get, especially since a lot more people are becoming aware of the welfare concerns for stalled horses with little to no turnout, and here one can only speculate how much turnout these horses get. No physical contact even between bars in any stall, lots of horses kicking at the walls and majority of stalls had scratch marks on the outside where the horses can reach with their heads, not knowing 100% but assuming that they cause those marks out of stress. To me this doesn't look like a dream stable at all, except for humans and their convenience. 😟

@@VeganFriendlyNutritionist At 0:09 there is a quick shot of what looks like pastures, they look small and looks like single horse pastures so unless they have more pastures elsewhere the horses still probably don't get much socializing except being able to touch another horse during their turnout time, which they can't at all in the stables. Unless they have minimum 8-12 hours turnout (even that in my opinion, is too little, considering horses usually only sleep for about 3h per 24h, that's 9 hours of doing nothing in a small stall during night if they get 12h turnout, but it's better than no turnout or less turnout) I think it's abuse and a sad life for these horses. I wish more people would realize this, as even in this comment section only about 3 people wrote about that, majority thinks it looks like a dream stable and the horses look "happy".

May we see more of the horses? Even better, take the questions a bit deeper - what specifically is so great about the horse being discussed? Maybe put the audio over B-roll of the horse, pointing out the highlights. Would make the video even more interesting and educational. Many thanks. ❤ JOINING

Some bigger place have dispens but they have to be outside half day and they rotate... my boy is outside 24/7 he has his own house with alot of straw in it, so he can choose, inside or outside, his pasture is big and he has his two neighbors that he cant talk to over the fence and his own box in the stall if I wanna take him inside. Alot of abuse going on among the elite high end show horse barns. It is well known and see it on line all the time. PLease God help these poor creatures from the abuse that is put upon them. It is time to stop after thousands of years of cruelty. WHen you have money you are immune to having to pay for what you have done at least for those who are guilty. THe horses in the stalls are obviously never allowed out to pasture so that is a mental and physical problem for a wandering herd animal. Oh I forgot you just dont give a damn about the horses welfare just the prestige and money. It is very clear that is how it is at these barns.
