Horus Heresy: Building a Night Lords Army Part 1

I don’t play the game or 40k but I think I have read about 90% of the Horus Heresy books. I love that series. Granted there are some filler books and Horus fall to chaos felt a bit rushed. Loved the night lords btw, they are so creepy. My favorite is the Alpha Legion mostly because Legion and Praetorian of Dorn are such good reads. Edit: Loved the little lore section. Great premise.

Wow, that is really cool to hear that the algorithm worked for once! I'm glad you like it 😊 Taravakh came from a list of suggested Night Lords names in one of the 40k publications I believe, and I thought I could use it as a last name. Ravosh I came up with myself, was trying to include harsh consonant sounds to make it Nostraman 👍

Great job making them a bit taller. I've seen other conversions where they look off because it's not easy to get them taller with the wonky proportions they have (and don't get me started with trying to get them to primaris size, not an easy endeavor). Man, it's so inspiring to watch another person start a new project! I don't play tabletop and I mainly paint individual busts, but I'm attracted to all the planning and assembling behind a squadron. Can't wait to see your army finished!

Looking very nice. I've found that cutting the belt and lowering that is a fairly quick process that looks nicer for adding height, but you're right that it's easy to just obscure the area. Keen to see them painted.

Chain glaives cost more than the power sword as you can only upgrade a model with a power sword already so you pay the power sword points cost plus the chain glaive points cost

really enjoy you video. I'll happiely follow along , always nice to see a project unfold and it help stay motivated. On the resizing of the older armor. I feel like adding a little putty under the head can also help. Super easy to do ( with a bit of super glue to secure it all still ) and it elongate the silhouette where those helmets are often embeded in the torso. Helps you also not add too much at the waist to keep a natural look for the same hight gain

Great start on the project, looking forward to following along. Just a heads up on chainglaives. You have to buy a power weapon for the model first, then pay to replace it with the chainglaive. For a praetor that's 15, then another 10, which is almost as much as just giving him a paragon blade, which is a lot better. From a fluff perspective they're awesome, but the wording of the rule makes them a bit spendy.

Now that I checked other Legion's armouries, some of them state that you can exchange weapons at no additional cost. So I think you're right, chainglaives cost an extra 10 points plus the original cost of the power weapon.

@@KabinMiniatures Yup, which is a bit unfortunate, and creates this weird imbalance of cost between our units. So a normal praetor has to buy a PW then pay to upgrade, but a termie praetor comes with a PW built in, so you only pay the upgrade cost. Similar with normal unit sgts who have to pay twice, vs terror squad or raptor sgts who have the option to straight upgrade in the unit profit. Bit baffling really.

Thank you so much! My very first army back in the early 2000's was Night Lords CSM, but for many years they gathered dust on the shelves as I moved on to other armies and models. But Prince of Crows did the same thing for me and truly rekindled my interest in the VIII!

He's Terran born and was a Commander before Curze was found and has the nickname of the Grim Reaper of Terra. They crusade to eradicate the Traitor 8th.

Would be cool to read a Black Library novel about that, with the Chaos Space Marines considering them traitors to the true VIII, the Imperium accepting them while at the same time maybe being suspicious of their heritage and gene-seed. And them waking up to a different galaxy and coming face-to-face with what's happened to the Emperor's vision.

Thank you so much! 1. They are alligator clamps from Green Stuff World. I clamps them around a 1mm brass rod pinned to their feet. 2. Unfortunately I only shot that whole sequence as a time-lapse, meaning I don't have normal-speed footage of it unfortunately... maybe I can shoot it again for a vehicle I paint in the future though?

I work full-time as a teacher and try to run this channel on the side, so I don't have time for 1 on 1 lessons unfortunately... but I'll try to show it in a future video. The basics is: undercoat the parts in a silver paint (Leadbelcher spraypaint). Drybrush them with a brighter silver paint (Runefang Steel), using a big old brush that you wipe away moat paint from. Apply varnish for extra protection, if you want to. Then add Streaking Grime from MIG with a normal brush or airbrush and leave to dry. Once dry, dip some cotton swabs/pieces of sponge/synthetic paintbrush in white spirit and wipe off the speaking grime from the raised surfaces. Finally, apply varnish again to seal it. Then paint the computer screens white and apply Naphthol Crimson (or other red transparent colour, Citadel Contrast might work or other inks) through an airbrush. If you don't have an airbrush you can try drybrushing this on to, just replace the white colour with a red instead then. I hope this helps until I cam show it in the future!
