I don't think this is true. I feel like Perturabo had all the roots in him to betray sooner or later anyways. He always felt underestimated by his brothers even though considering himself much more intelligent than all of them. The lack of recognition from his brothers and father is what turned him traitor mostly. And speaking of breaking the Iron Warriors' and Perturabo's spirit, this is kinda false, as this is one of the few legions that had never truly been broken and didn't really change even after turning heretic. Perturabo may have been the smartest of all the Primarchs, he understood what Horus was trying to do and only followed him because he agreed to betray, while despising Horus and his schemes. The only Primarch that was tricked by Horus was Russ, which led the to the betrayal of Magnus and his Thousand Sons.

The Iron warriors weren't always the doom and gloom legion they became at the start of the Heresy. Yes Both the legion and Primarch were methodical and unfeeling, but that's because of the way his mind worked. !Spoiler alert! For Perturabo: The Hammer of Olympia: Primarchs: The Horus Heresy After Perturabo finished purging his home planet of Olympia, he doubted the emperor would forgive him for purging the planet and Horus played on the doubt to convince Perturabo to join him in turning traitor. If Perturabo believed that was a chance that the emperor would have forgiven him for purging his home planet he would of remained loyal to the emperor and turned on Horus. Many philosophers have observed that this is the true, tragic nature of so much that we think of as evil - no matter how terrible their actions are in the judgement of history, very few individuals willingly and consciously undertake actions that they themselves see as evil for no reason. People always think their decisions, no matter how horrifying, are justified. That they pursue some higher purpose that will ultimately vindicate their choices. Add in the fact that Horus had assumed that he could bend the Ruinous Powers to his own will, and did not see the subtle ways in which they were warping his mind and corrupting his perceptions until it was far too late, and you can see how easily he could convince himself that he was on the 'right side of history'. Plus there is the fact that the Emperor himself was no sweetheart either, creating the Primarchs and the Astartes Legions to be used as disposable tools in pursuit of his own power, and thinking nothing of inflicting solar system wide genocide in order to secure his rule. The Emperor himself would also have viewed all those actions as wholly justified in pursuit of his higher goal, that he also saw as ensuring the survival of humanity. Ironically enough, a case can be made that the real problem was that Horus and the Emperor were too much alike in disposition and worldview in that regard. Like father like genes-son, with catastrophic results on a galactic scale.

There were loyalists among the Luna Wolves, they took a temporary name of Emperor's Wolves from a company of them that served before Horus was found. After the Heresy they disappeared into the second founding being put into records under a new name as successors of a different legion. Many of the loyalists were either rebranded as being from a different legion or have had their origin redacted by the inquisition. Same for almost all loyalists who survived the Heresy, they either had their connections hidden or dispersed into other chapters in the second founding.

4:30 - There USED to be loyalist Luna Wolves, but Horus went to great lengths to eliminate ANY within his own Legion that might have shown the LEAST bit of loyalty towards the Emperor. Many of the traitor Primarchs have reasons for turning traitor that we, as outside observers, can see for the tragic irony they are: -The whole vision quest Horus was sent on was a setup, especially since the potential future he was shown, where the Emperor was the god of mankind and Horus and the (future) traitor Primarchs were removed from all records, was basically the future we know as 40k. -Nigh Haunter is driven insane by his visions, because he believes that they are set in stone and can't be changed. -Mortarion was extremely distrustful of psykers and manipulated from multiple sides into siding with Horus under the pretense, that Horus would uphold the ban on psykers and the Emperor was the one making deals with daemons. -Angron was an empath, but the Butcher's Nails turned that against him in the worst way. The Emperor only saving him and leaving his warband to die definitely didn't help and is way up there as one of the biggest goofs big E did during the crusade alone. -Magnus tried to warn the Emperor but in doing so ruined his webway project. The Space Wolves were sent to retrieve him to Terra, but Horus changed the orders so Leman Russ thought he was sent to execute him. He was on the fence for most of the Heresy and only decided to side with Horus because he wanted the fragments of his soul back, the biggest of which was on Terra -At least a part of the grueling assignments given to Perturabo were given to him by Horus to increase his frustration. It's maybe worth noting that he actually really hated war, as far as I understand him. He had archives full of building plans for theaters, art galleries etc. and no indication that he'd ever get rid of his place in the imperial war machine. -Alpharius and Omegon are weird, given that it's not even clear if either of them truly turned traitor, were acting as double agents for the alien conclave (who though Horus would exterminate humanity if he won, removing the greatest source of power for Chaos) or actually for the Emperor. -Lorgar was primed to fall to Chaos by his adoptive father, and the Emperor doing another big goof when reprimanding him definitely didn't help either. Honestly, the only one I have a problem finding a really tragic angle is Fulgrim, at least with how little resistance he seemed to put up against the daemon in his sword corrupting and later temporarily possessing him. All of them went all in at some point during or after the Heresy though, so as tragic as it all is, they could have turned back at least for a while after the initial decision to turn traitor was made, even if it would have been at the cost of their lives, and probably the lives of their legions. It is worth noting that a lot of the reasons also include either very bad or a complete lack of communication from the Emperor to the respective Primarchs, starting with being honest with all of them regarding the whole Chaos thing and/or the plans he had for them after the crusade. Though some of the big goofs, like with Angron and Lorgar, go way beyond his bad communication. Him ruining his own plans at the last minute by distrusting reliable allies is a theme with him. It would be out of character for him to suddenly think his secrecy thing through at the last ditch effort that is called the great crusade.

I think it's likely the Emperor was using the Primarchs and Space Marines as he used the Thunder Warriors and after the Great Crusade was planning on having them "die off" and be replaced with is final guardians of Mankind, the Custodians. This is why the relations between the Custodians and Space Marines is the way it is, they view them as relics that should have died off, but now due to current circumstances have decided instead to keep them going for now.
@Lunar-Requiem2 жыл бұрын
I doubt it. The thunder warriors were literally created to be expendable and instable, nothing but a momentary asset. The space marines were likely created to be eternal watchmen, meant to keep vigil over the imperium. This is why the space marines are actually taught skills, and know how to create art, act as diplomats, etc. I fully believe the Chaos gods just used the thunder warriors as a thread of doubt, and was nothing more than a way to bring fear into the primarchs and a belief that they would be thrown away. My bro, if you think and or believe that Cawl didn't make primaris Luna Wolves, well then I got a bridge I can sell ya... hahahahaha. Having said that, he probably didn't call them that, but you can totally paint some that way and be totally lore legit. I can't get over how good this clip is, from the writing to the animation to the action, it's so good and I'm so jonesing for more. This is exactly what I was hoping for when warhammer+ was announced. I'm totally gonna get into HH when it drops, more Alpha's for the win baby!
@magnum32b2 жыл бұрын
I've actually been thinking of doing a primaris whit scars successor chapter, but in recognition of the relationship between the "Star Hunters" (White Scars) and "Luna Wolves" (Sons of Horus), I might try to incorporate the SOH "eye" symbol into my insignia.

Angron's situation was worse than that due to the Butcher's Nails, and if he didn't have it, there was a likelihood he would've gone renegade still. Only difference, he's only standing against how the Emperor would be doing things, but otherwise still a staunch ally of humanity
@Riken Жыл бұрын
The thing is it seems the god emperor expected the civil war to happen to propel him to the level of a god of humanity and to bring chaos into the material so it can be destroyed. He knew Horus would die one way or another and his war would solidify the Emperor of Mankind s godly hood and the cult religion it formed.

The whole Horus Heresy is tragic and dare I say, philosophical. Horus's turn to chaos is a tragedy itself like Hamlet; and in a way he was played by the Chaos gods in showing him "the horrible future" he saw in which he needs to die to happen, to actually happen because of his wanting it to not happen. Ala, Fates/Destiny sort of thing. Also what's so appealing about 30K is that Space Marines are basically the Imperial Guard here, they are the line infantry. This is HALO on steroids instead of the monk-priest special forces type of 40K. Also there's 63+ books to read so....

there now reason you can't play lunar wolves as loyalists in 40k, option 1 a pre heresy lunar wolves ship got lost in the warp and has just returned to real space. option 2 via the primaris project. option 3 hiden in plain sight the minators = ironwarriors and the blood raverns = thousandsons

Tho Angron was made as an Empath. but due to the nails hammered in to his skull.. .. he turned in to hulk. he was never created as a berserker.. or did lore change ?
@Fordo0072 жыл бұрын
Nope, he was meant to be an empath and heal and counsel.... instead he was broken and could never fulfill his intended role. Wonder if Perturabo and Konrad would've fallen if Angron was around as intended and would've felt their problems and tried to help them deal with it.

I put a dislike because the cinematic wasn't criticized at all: you didn't say anything about it, only around it, as expected of someone who calls himself a shill and a gatekeeper, after all. It isn't a new animated series for Warhammer + or something, contrary to what most believe/hope: it is just an advertisement... for MK VI figurines. The power armour that only the Alpha Legion and the Raven Guard had in truly substantial numbers; the most common power armour was still the MK II at the begining of the Heresy, especially in certain Legions which weren't well liked or supplies by the bureaucrats on Terra (such as the White Scars), or the MK III in some Legions (Iron Warriors...), while the Legions especially favoured by the Emperor (Imperial Fists would have a lot of MK III for the boarding squads & IV for Templars and so on) or the Warmaster had a lot of MK IV - because Horus was prepating his coup by distributing better supplies to the Legions he knew (Emperor's Children, Word Bearers...) or believed (Blood Angels...) would be on his side. And then, the most prevalent power armour quickly became the MK V, ugly, dysfunctionnal, made of salvaged equipments and materials. But what do we see everywhere? MK VI. Rows upon rows of Sons of Horus in MK VI, even. Not even a single MK II or MK V, everyone is in MK VI, except Horus. You can't even buy MK II power armours anymore, somehow, but G.W. thought it was a good idea to make new models for MK VI which we already have, and which doesn't have an Horus Heresy or Great Crusade vibe at all; probably so that you could field them with pri*aris. Just look at the official illustrations if you don't believe me or are illiterate. 10:42 No, He didn't. The Chaos gods didn't reveal to Horus / the readers what the deal was, nor what was in it. They claim he stole power, i.e. hinting that it is a quantity of energy that he stole from them, which makes absolutely zero sense, a claim which doesn't hold scrutiny, because anything of the sort would have been corrupted by Chaos from the onset, and furthermore, they wouldn't be His sons, but chaos demons wrapped in flesh. What the Emperor stole was obviously knowledge, what all the Chaos gods and them only know from instinct while demons don't, that is say how to create demons by parting with parts of your power, except what the Emperor was interested in is clearly the qualitative aspect, not the quantitative one, which any psyker can dish out. And why would the Chaos gods help the Emperor anyway, when one of Him was clearly hyper troublesome for them to begin with - since from His prehistorical conception, the Emperor was meant to vanquish them and free Humanity from the threat of Chaos so as to reestablish primordial immortality? Besides, that's exactly why Khorne hates psykers: they steal powers from the gods; so enslaving them to put them back in their place is fine, but treating them as equals? Negotiating? Slaanesh was at the height of its power too. Did the Emperor go into sealed parts of the Webway to the old palace of Asuryan, just to make a business proposal ? Of fucking course not. At worst, He made a medieval legend style lawyer deal where the wiseman screws other the devil lawyer style; at best, the Emperor sneackily caught them getting "pregnant" with demons and scientifically analyzed their method of parthenogenesis, and it was enough for Tzeentch to decide that the Emperor owes them something and everyone else jump on the bandwagon. So the Chaos gods lied, and all the r*tards in the community are repeating their propaganda like its their new evangel. Learn to read between the lines, you chaos worshippers.

You could always make a primaris marine chapter of the Luna wolves, after all Cawl has said that he's managed to purge the flaw in all of the gene seeds and is actively trying to convince guillaman to let him use traitor gene seeds to make some primaris, who's to say that sneaky bastard hasn't already?
@Jagonath Жыл бұрын
I think Cawl made all the legions, the traitors are just in stasis. Just gene flaws weren't the main problem. E.g. Blood Angels have tonnes of gene flaws but are loyal. World Eaters have no gene flaws to speak of (they have the nails but that isn't genetic) but are traitor.
@mikewillis9537 Жыл бұрын
@@Jagonath oh you know it, if Cawl can do it. He has done it, if G man gave him the go ahead he'd have a legion of loyal world eaters ready in a month lol

@@mikewillis9537 I would personally like to see it. Loyal traitor chapters (even if G man only did it on a trial basis) would be awesome. Plus, G man's idea was dumb. The traitors didn't turn traitor because of geneseed flaws, they did it because the Primarchs ordered them to.

I actually love that they are no more loyalist sons of Horus at the time of 40k. They were the greatest legion commanded by the greatest primarch (yeah Horus number 1 fight me) and now they have fallen the lowest, lore wise how ridiculous would it have been if Horus himself fell to chaos but not some random space marine who until now have trusted the warmaster with all his life and souls. Personnaly it would ruin Horus story and what it meant for the favoured son to fall if half his legion would have been like « nah we totally will betray our father and primarch who we revere as a god and have given everything to until this point. Emperor protects ! » Luna Wolves and Horus were always ride or die, that’s what makes them so amazing. But GW do chaos space marine dirty all the time to sell more space smurfs (I mean 12 failed crusade come on gw at this point my boy Abbadon is just a walking meme despite tearing the entire galaxy apart through the crimson path) But now I have this trailer that I already have watched 50 times so I can pretend GW cares about Chaos and my boys are more than just cringy edgy jokes for the loyalist to blast every time GW want to sell a new Ultramarine model…

I am aware of how the Thunder Warriors were treated upon their usefulness expiring, but were the Primarchs aware? I am aware of the fact the Primarchs knew of the ruinous powers, but did they know the full extent? An finally Horus was aware that he was in a vision, a vision " granted" to him after he was struck by a cursed blade, an then " healed" inside a chaos temple. That all being said, was then the vision true? After all, it was Ereberus egging him on.

Excellent response. I too am a huge fan of the Luna Wolves saga. The great visuals of this cinematic are let down by the basic dialogue & generic voice acting. There is no delusion of grandeur or megalomania undertones to Warmaster Horus's dialogue. You would think with all the excellent Black Library writers out there, GW could of contracted a writer who knows the character lore to write far superior dialogue for this cinematic.
